Using a simplified harmonic language and the traditional alternation of Antiphon - Psalm verse form, the works from the series ennoble a liturgical service and are accessible to professional and semi-professional ensembles and soloists. Liturgically, I Am With You Always is the Communion Antiphon for the Feast of the Ascension and is appropriate at various other times during the liturgical year as well. Using traditional Latin texts drawn from Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany, Vidimus stellam evocatively traces the theme of Light through the Christmas season. In the choral parts, an expressive lyricism predominates, revealing Siegfried’s affinity for chant and early music. A balance between accessibility and challenge is maintained throughout. This is the third movement, Hodie Christus natus, based on the familiar Christmas text, Today Christ is born, today the Savior has appeared. The movement begins majestically, with the singers declaiming the text against a descending pedal motif. Light, joyful, the organ supports and punctuates, and finally gets the descending melody all to itself as the choir sings Gloria in excelsis Deo..

The Heavens Are Telling is a very accessible classic SATB anthem for choir and organ.  I took two lines of music and lyrics from Haydn's 1797 oratorio The Creation and made that my chorus.  I then wrote verses using lyrics from other parts of The Creation and then wrote new music for the verses to sound like a continuation of Haydn's work.  The structure is through composed but with Ch/Vs/Ch/Vs/Ch/Ch with the final chorus having the lines reversed.  The piece makes a stately declaration of the wonders of God's creation of the heavens.  11 pages; 1:50 minutesThe range for each part is only 1 octave.Be the first choir to record this anthem and send me the link and I will post it.   plbeaman@gmail.com    Temporarily I have attached a recording of the vocal solo version, which is in another key, so you can get the text and main melody; which is then followed by a MIDI version of organ and 'aahs', to give you an idea of the SATB version.

Charles Wesley’s (1707-1788) Advent hymn, “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus,†from Hymns for the Nativity of our Lord (1744), reflects the dual nature of Advent for Christians, in that it recalls the first coming and incarnation of the Messiah while also anticipating His return.Each stanza presents a different idea: Stanza 1, the longing for freedom from sin and fear; Stanza 2, attributes of or names for Christ; Stanza 3, the Messiah's birth, kingdom, and purpose; and Stanza 4, a prayer for Christ's rule in believers' hearts. Among the Scriptures referenced in the hymn are 2 Corinthians 4:14, Revelation 3:21, Isaiah 61:1-2, Luke 4:18-19, and Romans 6:22. In this setting of Wesley’s text to an original tune, a short introduction is followed by verse 1, presented by women’s voices (soprano, alto) and verse 2, presented by men’s voices (tenor, bass).
