The Missa Millennia was composed during the spring of 2000 and premiered the following November by the choirs of the John Duss Music Conservatory, Duluth, MN. Scored for a chamber orchestra of strings, keyboard, and solo oboe (full score and instrumental parts available separately), the work is not so much a celebration of the new millennium as it is an assimilation of many of the musical styles, characteristics, and forms of the previous thousand years. The entire piece is in the form of the traditional Mass, a musical form having its origins in the Middle Ages, and is divided into the five movements commonly found in the Mass Ordinary: Kyrie (Lord, have mercy), Gloria (Glory to God in the highest), Credo (the Nicene Creed), Sanctus – Benedictus (Holy, holy, holy – Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord), and Agnus Dei (Lamb of God). In the final movement, the Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi (Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace) concludes the work. Although the Missa Millennia as a whole is distinctly contemporary, elements from many earlier musical periods are incorporated into the movements. These include chant, open fifth and parallel fifth harmonic movement (organum), and canonic imitation from the Middle Ages and Renaissance; fugue, word-painting, terraced dynamics, ostinato (a repeated rhythmic or bass accompaniment), Alberti bass accompaniment figures, ABA form, and dominant-tonic harmonic relationships typical of Baroque and Classical music to name but a few. Other significant features are the usage of non-Western modality in the plaintive solo oboe and of pedal point, a sustained tone in the bass over which the melody and harmony evolve. Pedal point, a compositional tool used throughout music history, dates from the Middle Ages about the time of St. Francis. Although not directly based upon the music of any composer, the astute listener may hear musical ideas reminiscent of Vivaldi, Vaughan Williams, Respighi, Duruflé, and others. In the audio file, the 2nd movement (Gloria) can be found at approximately 6'25, the 3rd movement (Credo) at 12'05, the 4th movement (Sanctus) at 21'15, and the final movement (Agnus Dei) at 31'05. The complete Mass is approximately 43 minutes long.

Da Natinitip Sanggar is a folksong originated from North Sumatra, Indonesia. This song was composed by Nahum Situmorang (1908 - 1969). He is a composer and musician. In his entire life, Nahum never worked as an employee of the Dutch colonial government. During his youth, he had won many song competitions, including Sumatra Keroncong Concours in Medan (1936). Nahum's skill in creating his own songs as well as singing them made many people admire him. Nahum is able to play a variety of musical instruments and has his own band. Nahum also often creates songs when in the middle of a crowd. Nahum was most prolific in composing songs from 1950 to 1960. Historically, Nahum has never married in his entire life. However, from several sources, Nahum stated that he once loved a woman but he did not reveal it. This song tells about the romantic story of a man who seduces the woman he loves. He fell in love at the first sight and tried to find out about the woman's family. This song is a collection of rhymes called Umpasa in Batak language. The lyrics of this song are closely related to the culture of the Batak tribe, especially about the family tree known as Tarombo. Men and women are not allowed to marry if both are of them are from the same descendant ( one surname / one family tree). Based on this culture, the song Da Natinitip Sanggar shows a man's curiosity about a woman's surname and her biological mother's surname to find out whether they came from the same family tree because if a woman's family name is the same as the man's biological mother's name, it is considered a mate. Otniel Simangunsong is a conductor and composer from Indonesia. He was born in Tanjungbalai, North Sumatra on August 19, 1996. Currently he is a conductor of Benedicamus Chante Choir - Darma Cendika Catholic University Student Choir, Surabaya. He has also got some supports from another professional conductors and composers. This composition has a Rondo form and it is a combination of the Sacred and the Secular and therefor suitable for both a church concert or any other concert where the folklore aspect is desired. All the names used are translated in English right above the text and there is some more background information on this special subject found in the actual score. Duration: just over 12 and a half minutes. The mp3 file is made straight from the sibelius file. After a retirement due to health concerns, his second Christmas hymn dating from about 1849 was published in The Christian Register. Of it a fellow minister by the name of Morrison wrote, I always feel that, however poor my Christmas sermon may be, the reading and singing of It Came Upon the Midnight Clear are enough to make up for all deficiencies.”Here the tune is NOEL (CMD). The arrangement begins in Eb moving up to F, followed by an expressive (optionally a cappella) section in Dm. After a brief return to F for the final stanza (with a descant limited to top space F) there is a subtle surprise by joy to Em and on to a singable ending in G, with options for second soprano. The voicing range from unison to 2-part and on to 3 and 4 parts, but in a singable, approachable range for choirs of medium ability and only a hint of easily sung divisi.The accompaniment is active but playable and the score suggests a harpsichord voice as the keyboard option.
