Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1349231 Composed by Todd Marchand. Christian,Sacred,Traditional. 16 pages. Con Spirito Music #933976. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1349231). Three Evening Canticles were written as part of a setting of choral evensong for Church of the Holy Apostles - Anglican, Fort Worth, Texas. Metrical, mostly homophonic, and conservative in technical challenges and ranges, these canticles are accessible for small choirs and those of moderate ability, yet musically satisfying for large and accomplished groups. Phos Hilaron (“O Gladsome Lightâ€) is one of the earliest known Christian hymns (ca. 3rd-4th century) recorded outside of the Bible. Intended to be sung at the kindling of lights in the evening, it is sometimes known as the “lamp-lighting hymn†and has been adopted by some Anglican bodies as an optional invitatory canticle immediately preceding the psalm(s) appointed for the day.Magnificat (The Song of Mary) is a scriptural canticle based on an account in the Gospel of Luke (1:46-55). Mary, the expectant mother of Jesus, visits her cousin  Elizabeth, the expectant mother of John the Baptist, who will prophetically proclaim the coming of the Messiah. Elizabeth praises Mary for her faith and subjection to God’s will, and Mary responds, “My soul doth magnify the Lord ... for he that is mighty hath magnified me ... and his mercy is on them that fear him throughout all generations.†The Magnificat is said or sung immediately after the first lesson (scripture reading) in the service of evening prayer. Nunc Dimittis (The Song of Simeon) is also a scriptural canticle taken from Luke (2:29-32).  Simeon, a devout Jew, had been promised by the Holy Spirit that he would not die until he had seen the Messiah. When Mary and Joseph bring the infant Jesus to the Temple in Jerusalem for the ceremony of redemption of the firstborn son, Simeon takes the child into his arms and says “Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace ... for mine eyes have seen thy salvation.†The Nunc Dimittis is said or sung after the second lesson in evening prayer.Texts for these settings are from The Book of Common Prayer (2019), Traditional Language Edition, according to the use of the Anglican Church in North America, and they are largely the texts of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer of the Church of England.©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Published by César Zumel (A0.939977). Great way to start a concert! Miserere (psalm 50) is a processional march for SATB choir. First bars are really a processional march, while chorus is a poliphonic song generating an atmosphere of round. Verses are gregorian imitation. Effective and easy for creating an atmosphere in line with Easter sorrow. It could be performed marching the choir, and an small group singing the gregorian imitation.Tesiture not so demanding makes it afordable for all type of choirs. The highest tesiture has a short durationg going back to relaxed one soon. It is usefull for conductors to start to work the Easter season, using it as warming up exercise (progresivity, mantric, self voice control,...).It is really interesting for starting a concert marching the choir to the stage, or at least to start the concert. At services it could be used at communio. For aditional info, please contact czmorago@gmail.com

Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323225 Composed by Cornish folk tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Advent,Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred. 10 pages. Con Spirito Music #911489. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1323225). “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen†is an English traditional carol dating, perhaps, to the 16th or 17th century. A manuscript, ca. 1650, contains a version with the first line, “Sit you merry gentlemen†and the refrain, “O tidings of comfort and joy.†The earliest known printed edition of the carol is a London broadsheet dated 1760, in which the first line is the familiar “God rest ye merry, gentlemen.†By the 19th century, the carol was well-known, with Charles Dickens referencing it in his 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol. The phrase “God rest you merry†in the first line is an archaic idiom meaning “God grant you peace and happiness.†William Shakespeare used the phrase “rest you merry†in his plays, “As You Like It†and “Romeo and Juliet,†both from the 1590s; but Dickens recorded the phrase as “God bless you, merry gentlemen†in A Christmas Carol. The tune adapted for use in this arrangement was at the time of its notation a wordless, nameless melody noted in 1905 by folk song collector E. Quintrell from the singing of a Mr. Boaden in Cornwall, England. The tune was sent to Lucy Broadwood, editor of the Journal of the Folk-Song Society, who decided that it fit the ballad, “The Maid in Bedlam,†and published the tune and text together. Gustav Holst later arranged the tune as Song without Words ‘I'll Love My Love’†in his Second Suite in F for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 2 (1911) and again as “I Love My Love†in his 6 Choral Folksongs, Op. 36 (1916). Set in F minor (Dorian), the tune brings a contemplative tone to the text, with the high point of the refrain being the subdominant Bb major chord on the word “joy.†The rich, dark timbre of solo clarinet (part included) on introduction, interludes, and ending adds to this tone. SATB voices (with some divisi on soprano and tenor), piano, Bb clarinet©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). By Amy Victoria Wadge, Amy Wadge, Anthony Clemons Jr., Ed Sheeran, Johnny McDaid, Kim Lang Smith, Michael Pollack, Scott Carter, Scott Macfarland Carter, and Uforo Ebong. Arranged by Chris Lawry. Pop. Octavo. 11 pages. Moonhouse Music #6533263. Published by Moonhouse Music (A0.750007). Visiting Hours is a song by English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. It was released on 19 August 2021 as the first promotional single from his upcoming fifth studio album, =, the same day he announced the album. On 2 March 2021, Australian music promoter Michael Gudinski passed away in his sleep at the age of 68. Sheeran first performed Visiting Hours at Gudinski's funeral on 24 March 2021 as a tribute to him in Australia, delivering an emotional performance.[2] Gudinski's close friends and fellow musicians, Kylie Minogue and Jimmy Barnes, also provide backing vocals on the song. This arrangement is in the original key, transcribed from the original recording and arranged for SATB choir with piano accompaniment and would make a wonderful piece for concert use or other occasions such as church services etc. There is a piano and vocal version available separately. Choral Choir,Choral,SATB Chorus - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1492434 Composed by Orlando Gibbons. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Christian,Christmas,Renaissance,Sacred. 5 pages. Con Spirito Music #1069110. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1492434). As On The Night is a song text for Christmas Day by English poet, satirist, pamphleteer, and hymn-writer George Wither (1588-1667), whose life spanned the tumultuous period in English history that included the reigns of Elizabeth I, James I, and Charles I and the continuous tension between Catholic and Protestant faith and practice. Desiring to counter the practice of exclusively using psalms as texts for congregational singing in worship, Wither published in 1623 The Hymnes and Songs of the Church, with The First Part comprehend[ing] Hymns, and such parcels of Holy Scripture, as may properly be sung, with some other ancient Songs and Creeds, and The Second Part consist[ing] of Spiritual Songs, appropriated to the several Times and Occasions observable in the Church of England. As On The Night appears in part two as a song to commemorate Christmas Day. Its first stanza is a retelling of elements of the Nativity story as found in Luke 2:7-20; its second stanza is a consideration of the Incarnation and work of Christ (Our flesh he wore, our sin to wear away; Our curse he bore, that we escape it may; And wept for us that we might sing for aye.).The music accompanying As On the Night is Song 46, one of many tunes written for Wither's collection by English composer and keyboardist Orlando Gibbons (1583-1625). As Gibbons notated only the melody and bass lines of his tunes, the harmonization in this arrangement for SATB choir and organ is largely that of The English Hymnal (1906). ©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Published by John Ross (A0.1137248). “For the Fallen†was written for Bec Beall and her choir “Lux Alba†and was premiered by them in 2019 at St Matthew’s Church, Albury, NSW, Australia. The words of this choral suite were written by the English poet Laurence Binyon in 1914, immediately after the Battle of Mons, where the British Expeditionary Force suffered a serious loss, soon after the start of World War I. The fourth verse (“They shall not grow old as we that are left grow oldâ€) has become known as the “Ode of Remembranceâ€, regularly recited at memorial services. This suite uses the words of the Ode for the first movement, with echoes of the bugle call “The Last Postâ€. The second movement, “They went with songs to the battle†portrays the soldiers as young men in fine fettle, physically and mentally fit for what lies ahead of them. The third movement, “As the stars that shall be bright as we are dust†compares the war dead to stars and constellations. They move “in marches upon the heavenly plainâ€. Will Longstaff’s painting “Menin Gate at Midnight†(reproduced on the cover of this score) movingly illustrates this concept, with ghostly soldiers marching by the Menin Gate at Ypres, Belgium. The work concludes with an alternate setting of the opening movement “They shall not grow oldâ€. A version of this suite with organ accompaniment is also available on this website.

The words of this choral suite were written by the English poet Laurence Binyon in 1914, immediately after the Battle of Mons, where the British Expeditionary Force suffered a serious loss, soon after the start of World War I. Published by Sally Whitwell (A0.1262362). On the morning of 2 March 2020, I finished writing the first draft of this song. It was the same morning that the New South Wales Rural Fire Service announced that for the first time since July 2019, the state was free of active bush and grass fires. At the time it felt quite euphoric. We’d been through a lot. Little did we know what was coming just a few days from then, when the Covid19 global pandemic reached our shores. It’s a virus that would kill millions across the world, and disable millions more, long term. It forced us, globally, into a kind of reckoning the like of which we had never experienced before. Non pharmaceutical controls like lockdowns, mask mandates, social distancing and ventilation standards were employed to keep us safe from this airborne virus, whilst scientists worked round clock to develop vaccines and treatments.Technically, the declaration of a pandemic is still active, but governments and people have somehow decided for themselves that it is all over. No one takes any precautions any more. Governments have stopped reporting statistics. People who know they are infected are going about their business with no thought for others. Meanwhile, many of the immune-compromised, the disabled, the vulnerable, are unable to safely leave their homes and engage in activities out in the world. I know this, because I am a carer for a vulnerable person. What this whole exercise has taught me is that people in the world are actually much less kind than I thought they were. Humans do not really care for each other. People attack me for wearing a mask, tell me that I’m virtue signalling and that I look ridiculous (as if I care how I look). I’ve asked questions about workplace Covid safety and been informed that it’s “a bit rich†that I’m asking at all, when everything is now safe. A friend’s diagnosed Long Covid symptoms were cruelly minimised or completely dismissed “Oh, it’s not Covid. How old are you? In your forties? It’s your hormones, it’s the menopause.†The fatal combination of sheer selfishness, rampant misinformation and DISinformation continues, whilst people waltz around spreading a deadly virus with no thought for the grief that will undoubtedly ensue. It boils down to this: if we want to continue as a species and to have a planet on which to reside, we have to stop with the Self Care and start with the Community Care. A choir is the perfect instrument for expressing these notions, through the unique power of the massed first person plural. My wish for this piece is that it spurs performer and listener alike into some kind of action. Please consider the effect your actions have on others, and on the planet, and make any changes necessary, however inconvenient or difficult they are. Otherwise, there’s really no point.Sally Whitwell 11 July 2023.

Con Spirito Music #1067324. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1490482). “The Christ Child's Lullaby” is an English translation of the Scots Gaelic “Tàladh Chrìosda,” a Christmas carol adapted and popularized in the 20th century from a longer work written in 1855 by Catholic priest Ranald Rankin for his parishioners at Fort William in the Scottish Highlands.Rankin’s hymn, representing a lullaby for the Christ Child by the Virgin mother Mary, was intended for performance at Midnight Mass (the first mass of Christmas) and is still sung then at churches in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland today. Titled “Tàladh ar Slànaigheir” (“The Lullaby of our Savior”) and containing 29 verses, it is altogether a lullaby, a retelling of elements of the Nativity story, and an explication of the nature and work of Christ. The English text of “The Christ Child’s Lullaby” (containing three verses and alleluias) is one of many translations, adaptations, and variants of the original Scots Gaelic text. The tune, too, is one of many variants of a traditional Hebridean folk melody. It has been further adapted and newly harmonized in this medium-easy arrangement for SATB choir and organ, featuring solo soprano on verse 1, sopranos-altos in open harmonies on verse 2, and full SATB in rich harmonies on verse 3 and the concluding “Alleluias.”Voices realized by Cantamus (https://cantamus.app/); organ realized by NotePerformer (https://www.noteperformer.com)©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Written by Anglican bishop, scholar, author, and poet Christopher Wordsworth (1807-1885), it was published in his collection, The Holy Year; or Hymns for Sundays and Holy-Days, and Other Occasions (1862). Rather than a retelling of the Nativity story, the hymn is more a statement of beliefs about the nature and work of Christ, echoing elements of the Nicene Creed in phrases such as: God from God, and Light from LightGod himself comes down from heav'nOne with us in human birthGod with us ... deigns forever now to dwellborn for us that we born again in him may bewith thy Spirit may [we] be ... with the Father and with theeThis joyful, medium-easy setting of Sing, O Sing, This Blessed Morn for SATB voices and organ is mostly unison, with SATB on the first half of stanzas 3 and 5, and on the concluding alleluias.Voices realized by Cantamus (https://cantamus.app/); organ realized by NotePerformer (https://www.noteperformer.com)©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1495196). Jesus Christ the Apple Tree is the commonly used title for a poem published under the heading Christ compared to an Apple-tree in the August 1761 issue of The Spiritual Magazine, a London periodical for Calvinist Baptists.Above the poem in the publication are words of its author:Gentlemen,Having spent some of my vacant time in the composition of short pieces of Divine Poetry, have sent you the following, by way of specimen; which, if thought worthy of a place in your magazine, shall communicate the others regularly. I am your well-wisher and constant reader, R.H.R.H. is today believed to most likely be the Rev. Richard Hutchins, a Calvinist Baptist clergyman then serving in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire. The poem's first known appearance in a hymnal, and in America, was in 1784 in Divine Hymns, or Spiritual Songs: for the use of Religious Assemblies and Private Christians compiled by Joshua Smith, a lay Baptist minister from New Hampshire. Because of its popularity in New England churches thereafter, it has often been wrongly attributed to an anonymous early American poet or to Smith. The poem may be an allusion to the apple tree in Song of Solomon 2:3 (As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste), which has been interpreted as a metaphor for Jesus. It also alludes to other descriptions of the tree of life in both the Old and New Testaments. Primitive yet profound, Jesus Christ the Apple Tree has been set to music by many composers, including a very popular setting by Elizabeth Poston (1905-1987). This new setting for unaccompanied SATB voices captures the rustic quality of the text with a rising-and-falling folksong-like melody, attractively harmonized. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1472849). “That We May Give Ourselves” is a short anthem based on a traditional collect — a prayer comprising an invocation, petition, and conclusion — that appears in various Anglican prayer books. The invocation, “Eternal God and Father, by whose power we are created and by whose love we are redeemed” acknowledges the eternity, creative power, and redeeming love of God. The petition, “Guide and strengthen us by your Spirit, that we may give ourselves to your service, and live this day in love to one another, and live this day in love to you” asks for the aid of the Holy Spirit in service to God and recalls Jesus's words in the Gospel of Matthew, 22:37-39: “And [Jesus] said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”The conclusion, “through Jesus Christ our Lord,” reflects the mediating role of Jesus Christ the Son, as expressed in I Timothy 2:5 (“For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus”) and Ephesians 2:18 (“For through him we both have access in one Spirit to the Father”).Appropriate at any time of year, this short anthem of dedication is an ideal offertory selection. ©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). A contemporary of William Shakespeare and John Milton, God-child to poet John Donne, Herbert is associated with the 17th-century Metaphysical poets and “is remembered as a pivotal figure: enormously popular, deeply and broadly influential, and arguably the most skillful and important British devotional lyricist of his or any other time.” Shortly before his death in 1633 at age 39, Herbert directed that a manuscript of his religious poems be sent to his fellow clergyman and friend, Nicholas Ferrar, reportedly saying, “Tell him ... if he can think it may turn to the advantage of any dejected poor Soul, let it be made publick: if not, let him burn it: for I and it, are less than the least of God’s mercies.” First published in 1633, The Temple was an enormously popular work, totaling more than 20,000 copies printed in 13 editions between 1633 and 1679.“Let All the World in Ev'ry Corner Sing” is the refrain of Herbert’s poem, “Antiphon (I),” which appeared in the “Christian Life” section of The Temple. An antiphon may be defined as a short sentence or refrain sung or recited before or after a psalm or canticle; and in Herbert's short poem of two stanzas, he may also have intended that the verses be recited antiphonally (alternately) by two groups. The third stanza in this setting for SATB voices and organ, a doxology by an unknown author, was added in the 19th century. ©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Charles Wesley’s (1707-1788) Advent hymn, “Come, Thou Long-Expected Jesus,†from Hymns for the Nativity of our Lord (1744), reflects the dual nature of Advent for Christians, in that it recalls the first coming and incarnation of the Messiah while also anticipating His return. Each stanza presents a different idea: Stanza 1, the longing for freedom from sin and fear; Stanza 2, attributes of or names for Christ; Stanza 3, the Messiah's birth, kingdom, and purpose; and Stanza 4, a prayer for Christ's rule in believers' hearts. Among the Scriptures referenced in the hymn are 2 Corinthians 4:14, Revelation 3:21, Isaiah 61:1-2, Luke 4:18-19, and Romans 6:22. In this setting of Wesley’s text to an original tune, a short introduction is followed by verse 1, presented by women’s voices (soprano, alto) and verse 2, presented by men’s voices (tenor, bass). Verse 3 is presented by SATB voices, unaccompanied; and following a short organ interlude and modulation from D minor to E minor, the concluding verse 4 is introduced by all voices in unison with organ, then expands both dynamically and in texture to SATB and ends on a glorious E major chord.©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). As a writer of hymns, his work has been compared favorably to that of Samuel Wesley, Isaac Watts, Philip Doddridge, John Newton, and William Cowper (Cooper). Among his most well-known lyrics are Angels From the Realms of Glory, Go to Dark Gethsemane, and Hail to the Lord's Anointed. In the Hour of Trial consists of four stanzas of eight lines in 6.5.6.5 meter, written in the first-person voice. Stanzas 1 and 2, presented by unison women's voices, then men's, are pleas for Jesus' presence in times of temptation; stanza 3, in full harmony and unaccompanied, expresses the author's reliance on Christ in times of affliction; stanza 4, with full choir and organ accompaniment, expresses the author's reliance, at time of death, on Jesus' truth and promise of eternal life. This anthem is especially appropriate in Lent and for memorial services, and is fitting for general worship as well.©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music. All rights reserved. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1367409). Perhaps the most often-sung processional hymn on Palm Sunday, “Ride On, Ride On in Majesty†was written in 1820 by Anglican cleric, poet, and scholar Henry Hart Milman (1791-1868) and first  published in Reginald Heber’s Hymns Written and Adapted to the Weekly Church Service of the Year (1827). The hymn references Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem prior to his Passion, as recorded in Matthew 21:1-11.Writing for the Hymnology Archive of The Hymn Society in the US and Canada, editor Chris Fenner notes in his analysis of the text that:“This hymn ... is much less a narrative or paraphrase of the triumphal entry (Matt. 21, Mk. 11, Lk. 19, Jn. 12) than it is a forward-looking hymn pointing from the palms to the cross to [Jesus’] ascended position on the throne. The triumphal entry itself is a fulfillment of Zechariah 9:9 (‘Behold, your king is coming to you . . . humble and mounted on a donkey’). The recurring opening line is possibly an allusion to Psalm 45:4 (‘in thy majesty ride prosperously’). “Some hymnological commentators connect this hymn with the idea of the great reversal in Philippians 2:5-12, where we find the Christ who humbled himself in a crucified death, later to be exalted, name above all names, to which every knee will bow. As Canadian hymn scholar Stanley Osborne observed, this hymn’s poetic strength is in its exploration of that duality:'Objective, robust, confident, and stirring, it possesses that peculiar combination of tragedy and victory which draws the singer into the very centre of the drama. It is this which gives the hymn its power and its challenge.'In this arrangement for SATB voices and organ, Milman’s text is set to the 15th-century English ballad, “Deo Gratias†(aka The Agincourt Carol), with the refrain Ride on in majesty!†following each verse.©Copyright 2024 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). A prayer of adoration, it was written by Anglican priest, hymnodist and hymnologist John Ellerton (1826-1893) and first published in the Nantwich (Cheshire, England) Festival Book, 1880, included in the Westminster Abbey Hymn Book in 1883, and re-published in numerous other hymnals. Published by Published by Gloria Cangahuala (A0.1031983). The Love Which Makes Us One is a composition for SATB choir with piano accompaniment. It is based on a sonnet by Christina Rossetti (1830-1894) entitled I loved you first: but afterwards your love from her Monna Innominata, a series of 14 sonnets. I loved you first: but afterwards your love is one of Rossetti’s love poems; it simply yet profoundly expresses the existence of love as being made possible only through the complete melding of two people as one entity. The Love Which Makes Us One is best suited for advanced intermediate to professional level choirs. Competitive high school and college choirs should be able to manage it. The piece involves continuous two-against-three rhythms with the choir vs. piano. In addition, there is one extended a capella section that requires the choir to stay on pitch for the piano re-entry. Tenors need to be able to sing the G above middle C, and basses need to be able to sing the F below C3.Duration: 5:40World premiere performance by Freudig Singers of Western New York on March 7, 2020, Buffalo, NY.(Please note that the mp3 file associated with this listing is a midi rendering only. On 4 March 1827, Schubert invited a group of friends to his lodgings intending to sing the first group of songs, but he was out when they arrived, and the event was postponed until later in the year, when the full performance was given. This arrangement is made for SATB and can be sung with the original accompaniment by Schubert but there is also a set of parts for Wind-instruments. Schubert wrote Winterreise in 1827, about a year before his death. The text are poems by Wilhelm Müller who died in the year that Schubert wrote Winterreise.Schubert found the first twelve poems under the title Wanderlieder von Wilhelm Müller. Die Winterreise. In 12 Liedern in an almanack (Urania. Taschenbuch auf das Jahr 1823) published in Leipzig in 1823. Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1260120 Composed by Mark S Grossman. 21st Century,Classical,Contemporary. Octavo. 13 pages. Mark S Grossman #853354. Published by Mark S Grossman (A0.1260120). A work for chorus (SATB) and piano. First performance March, 2023 by Schola Cantorum of Silicon Valley. One morning in early 2022, after having somewhat unexpectedly lost my two aunts and one of my best friends in the world over the previous year or so, I woke up and this piece, along with some tears, poured out in about 15 minutes. For Us the Living contains echoes of Brahms' German Requiem (Denn alles Fleisch ist wie Gras), Shawn Kirchner's Cornerstone, and Dolly Parton's Light of a Clear Blue Morning (another a song about loss). The words are partly based on a short poem I wrote after my father passed away. I ended to him, Go to sleep, rest a while. So, perhaps obviously, the piece is like a lullaby. What I'm saying is that the purpose of mourning is first to comfort the survivors, and a call to take care of each other -- but also to not just wait for salvation, but to use the memory of our loved ones, to be inspired to pick ourselves up and make ourselves useful while we're on this Earth.Â
