Performed by the National Youth Choir of Scotland for the Scottish Parliament's 20th Anniversary Celebration also attended by Her Majesty the Queen.  The Bonnie Banks O' Loch Lomon', or simply Loch Lomond for short, is a well-known traditional Scottish song first published in 1841 in Vocal Melodies of Scotland. The song prominently features Loch Lomond, the largest Scottish loch, located between the counties of Dunbartonshire and Stirlingshire. In Scotland, the song is often the final piece of music played during an evening of revelry (a dance party or dinner, etc.).For this interpretation, the song is being sung by a soldier who chooses to die to save the life of his friend. But with that decision, his true sacrifice is revealed, as he will not only lose his life, but his true love as well. Each of the main verses are sung to her. However, his refrain then turns back toward his friend whom he reassures by reminding him that they will both go back to Scotland...That he (his soul) will go on the low road and get back to Scotland first, whereas his friend and brother-in-arms would take the high road home that linked London and Edinburgh upon his release.To learn more about the composer, please visit https://www.dmgardner.com.

This song is about a married woman. Every step she takes, her husband supports her. She is enveloped in his world, and he is enveloped in her's. Suddenly, this man dies. She is overtaken by this lonely feeling. Her better half has just been stolen from her.  The word, Falling, is repeated to describe the fact that she knows that she is falling down a bottomless pit called her heart. The words, I can't hear a sound are said to describe that not only is she blinded by her grief but she is deafened as well. She cannot focus on the world around her because her grief consumes her. The words, I want to go home are spoken to describe that her husband was her home. She had her safety net ripped from underneath her and it will never come back. The words, I want to be free are spoken in unison with the entire choir to describe that everyone feels this way at least once in their life. They all have been thrown into a cell that some call the heart, and they've lost the key.  The last portion is the same as the beginning portion because the woman is remembering her husband in all of his glory. The last chord ends in major because she has had the epiphany that he lives on, within her memories.

Enrico Miaroma, Italian composer and choral conductor, writes about the pieces: Farewell was composed in 2011 for a youth choir of 45 young adults, working and having fun together in Arco (Trentino), for one marvellous week together with Gary Graden and myself. My aim was to compose a piece that young choristers would appreciate after intense and joyful days together. Through my music I wanted to share the range of emotions and the hardship of parting when they were to go home to their native countries again. The choice of such a beautiful and evocative text helped me a great deal to achieve this. Farewell is recorded by S:t Jacobs Chamber Choir and Gary Graden on the cd To the Field of Stars (Footprint Records FRCD 083). My Song is like a little brother to Farewell. From the very beginning, I had a strong feeling that the assonance between the words of the title, 'my song', and 'my son', was intended by the poet. Throughout the composing process, this kept coming back to me, bringing my little son, Giovanni, who is four years old, to mind. This is an energetic song!The Clarinet plays a featured role, enhancing the message of the lyrics. For example, the phrase “Children, go where I send thee†is matched by the Clarinet scampering up a scale as children setting forth on a trip. Hugh was probably best known as a member of the folk-rock group Redgum. From 1986 to 1990 he was their lead singer and wrote a number of the group's hit songs, including The Diamantina Drover.The Diamantina Drover tells the story of a drover who leaves behind his family in Sydney and sets out to find work on Cork Station on the banks of the Diamantina River in the channel country of far western Queensland. He promises his family that he’ll return home when the droving is finished. But ten years go by and, despite the hardships of the drover’s life, he still finds it hard to leave behind the wide-open spaces and return to city life.The Diamantina in the song title refers to the Diamantina River, one of several large Queensland river systems that make their way towards Lake Eyre, in South Australia. Because the Lake Eyre basin is located entirely in desert and semi desert country, the rivers flow only intermittently following periods of heavy rain. For most of the time, the shallow river channels are dry and dusty, and Lake Eyre is an expansive salt plain.
