Well, as the afternoon progressed, other tunes got added, resulting in a curious potpourri for choir and piano. The choir gets to sing On Ilkla Moor, the Este psalter tune known to all, and also Auld Lang Syne. The second voice, in its madrigalian way, gets a sly English cadence!. Meanwhile, the piano gets some sly references to Sing a song of sixpence and Scotland the brave. I sang it in G on this mp3, to fit my multitrack range, but versions are available on sheetmusicplus in G (ATBB), C (SATB) (fairly high for the sopranos) and Bflat (SATB) (fairly low for the basses) It can also be seen as a video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRXrzrSY-Vw === While shepherds watched their flocks by night, All seated on the ground, The angel of the Lord came down, And glory shone around. The 40-page score is a choral symphony with a powerful lesson to modern people, based on an old Danish folk song about the young super-hero Ramund. The score is dense with contents, both musically and lyrically, and alone for that reason, the 8-minute performance takes an advanced choir.The original folk song dates back to the Viking age and consist of many episodes ofRamund's life, almost like a personal saga. Some have undoubtedly been added later,making the total number of stanzas go up around 50, but the main idea of the song isto report about a young lad, whose ideas of what is right for him to do or not doare completely unaffected by other people's opinions, including those of royalties andcelebrities. The stories are in many regards comparable to those of Beowolf.Although the stories generally are dramatic and bloody, Ramund always retains hiscool attitude and shows how unimpressed he is with power demonstrations, even hisown when he is provoked to use his strength. It is a common element throughout thestories that Ramund detests evil and aggression, and he goes to great lengths to fightpower abusers and aggressive elements. He just wants to live in peace and not haveto be bothered by all those who like to abuse power!Included in this presentation for piano and 8 voices are 11 stanzas from what is believedto be original, in English translation, with focus on clarity of meaning, more so thanpoetical rules and rhymes. The first ruling concept has been to obtain clarity and agreat fit to the music. The second concept has been to add the inspiration this old folksong has created in the mind of a modern rebel who would like to see some ofRamund's attitude to power and power abusers put into action in our modern corruptsociety. Maybe in a less bloody version, but definitely with a similar effect! The added2 stanzas and the attached coda, as well as the added lyrics to the intermezzos and theincorporated commentaries to the action should serve that purpose.In addition, the original tune itself, as well as the lyrics and the intermezzo, haveinspired some musical development throughout the piece, to further accentuate themeaning and the messages about respecting each other, standing together againstabuse, and not letting power abusers get away with their crimes.The 8 voices cover ranges as follows: First sopranos: C4 through Bb5 (possibly G5); Second sopranos: C4 through E5; All altos: G3 through D5; All tenors: C3 through G#4(possibly F#4); First basses: F2 through D4; Second basses: D2 through B3

You have almost no power to affect any change in your life other than the biological ones that are happening to you daily. You've been feeling strange lately, nauseous in the mornings. You're soon to be married to an older man you barely know. Your cousin Elizabeth is pregnant and you are on your way to visit her. As you walk, you silently meditate on your current state of affairs, absentmindedly chanting a prayer you've heard since birth.Suddenly, a bright light and strange being appear, the being greets you and gives you the most bizarre news anyone has ever heard. After your initial shock, you can't help but praise God.Nunc dimittis: An old man is at the temple in Jerusalem. Year after year, day after day, hour after hour he has longed for deliverance from Roman oppression and the coming of Messiah. On this day, as he trudges along, he encounters a young girl, an older man and a baby. Not unusual, but something about the child catches his eye and draws him to the family. As he stands staring at the child, suddenly he knows. He knows! This is the One he has been waiting for. The long wait is over. The search is ended. He takes the baby from the mother and holds him close. He feels not elation as much as relief. He can now rest in peace.

Inspiration Each year Fall and Winter bring an end to the growing season ushering in a dormant period within the seasonal cycle. Spring and Summer follow with new life and a time when we can again enjoy nature at its fullest. Our own lives mirror similar cycles; sometimes we are faced with events bringing us sadness and despair and other times peace and joy. In the end Jesus and God's great love are our Spring and Summer. This piece attempts to portray this contrast, comparing the seasons to our own lives and reminding us that in the end We Have A Friend who helps us. The Music The piece begins with soloists portraying the seasons of the year and how they relate to our lives. A transition then occurs where we're reminded that when we are down and out, and we need a helping hand, we have a friend in the Lord Jesus.

A song of struggle between faith and fear as a storm threatens to engulf all in its path. Verses of storm are interspersed with verses of calm, as the loving heart struggles to ease the desperate mind with the notion of there being no reason to fear, reinforcing the faith that ‘love will hold through blood and tears’. The music and text express this idea with an almost surreal detachment of the peaceful heart from the surrounding storm during each return of the verse of calm, amidst the increasing tension in the verses of storm, as if in temporary respite within the eye of the storm. In such a meditative state, one can even begin to admire the storm in awe of the beauty of the sheer force of nature. It culminates with the eventual defeat of the loving heart and a resignation to the likely fate to be met by the end of the storm. When I Land is duration ca. 5 minutes. Minneapolis native Fletcher Bartholomew spent most of his life in aviation, beginning with a childhood flight in a Curtis Robin in 1929. His work in aviation started with a job as an inspector in an aircraft factory. He went on to become a test pilot in World War II, serving at the South India Air Depot at Bangalore, India. He often spoke later of his experience on the ship to India and the people he met travelling around the subcontinent. He subsequently worked in aviation in Munich, Germany, and in Lima, Peru, before he concluded his career working in airport planning and management. The seventh movement, Christmas Spirit, reminds us, in seventeenth-century words, of how we should share our good fortune with those who have need of it, and in the last movement, Christmas Celebration, the audience is invited to join in, with the last verse of the well known ‘We wish you a merry Christmas’ Some separate movements are also available: Christmas Recipe, Festival (Christmas) Grace, and Christmas Celebration.
