Choral Choir,Choral (SATB) - Level 4 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1323225 Composed by Cornish folk tune. Arranged by Todd Marchand. Advent,Christmas,Folk,Holiday,Sacred. 10 pages. Con Spirito Music #911489. Published by Con Spirito Music (A0.1323225). “God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen†is an English traditional carol dating, perhaps, to the 16th or 17th century. A manuscript, ca. 1650, contains a version with the first line, “Sit you merry gentlemen†and the refrain, “O tidings of comfort and joy.†The earliest known printed edition of the carol is a London broadsheet dated 1760, in which the first line is the familiar “God rest ye merry, gentlemen.†By the 19th century, the carol was well-known, with Charles Dickens referencing it in his 1843 novella, A Christmas Carol. The phrase “God rest you merry†in the first line is an archaic idiom meaning “God grant you peace and happiness.†William Shakespeare used the phrase “rest you merry†in his plays, “As You Like It†and “Romeo and Juliet,†both from the 1590s; but Dickens recorded the phrase as “God bless you, merry gentlemen†in A Christmas Carol. The tune adapted for use in this arrangement was at the time of its notation a wordless, nameless melody noted in 1905 by folk song collector E. Quintrell from the singing of a Mr. Boaden in Cornwall, England. The tune was sent to Lucy Broadwood, editor of the Journal of the Folk-Song Society, who decided that it fit the ballad, “The Maid in Bedlam,†and published the tune and text together. Gustav Holst later arranged the tune as Song without Words ‘I'll Love My Love’†in his Second Suite in F for Military Band, Op. 28, No. 2 (1911) and again as “I Love My Love†in his 6 Choral Folksongs, Op. 36 (1916). Set in F minor (Dorian), the tune brings a contemplative tone to the text, with the high point of the refrain being the subdominant Bb major chord on the word “joy.†The rich, dark timbre of solo clarinet (part included) on introduction, interludes, and ending adds to this tone. SATB voices (with some divisi on soprano and tenor), piano, Bb clarinet©Copyright 2023 Todd Marchand / Con Spirito Music (ASCAP). Depicting the miracle of Jesus in raising Lazarus from the dead.Text:Lord, if thou hadst been here, our brother had not died.Lord, if thou hadst been here, our brother had not died.â€Word was sent to Jesus . . . “Lazarus lay sick.He to whom thou lovest, he is very sick.â€Martha and her sister loved this brother dear.Though their Lord was absent, He would soon be near.Consciously He waited in Jerusalem,‘Til four days had ended; death was sure by then.Jesus told the sisters: “Lazarus shall rise.He is only sleeping.†Still, with them He cried.Coming to the gravesite where the dead was laid,One large stone was taken; Jesus knelt and prayed. When He thus had spoken, causing to restore,He affirmed with loudness: “Lazarus, come forth.â€Now he had arisen, God’s most holy will.Jesus is Messiah! Miracles are real!Whosoever liveth, they shall never die.To all men He beckons: “Come forth, it is I.â€.

Published by Biretta Books (A0.879629). TRANSLATIONSedebit Dominus Rex is the Communion Antiphon for the Feast of Christ the King. The text is from Ps 28:10b, 11b: Sedebit Dominus Rex in aeternum: Dominus benedicet populo suo in pace. The Lord will sit on his royal throne for ever; the Lord will bless his people in peace.A NOTE FROM THE COMPOSERWhen Fr. Scott Haynes, SJC, sent me the words and original chant material for ‘Sedebit Dominus Rex’ it immediately conjured a vision of a medieval King seated on a throne, grave and powerful. But the figure surprisingly descends to His people and blesses them with peace.Having worked with St. John Cantius’ Saint Cecilia choir on ‘Missa Chicagoenis’ in June 2017, I know these splendid voices have a wide dramatic range, so I wrote expressive music for them, and for Corrado Cavalli, I wanted an interesting organ part with lots of colour. The original Gregorian chant melody presents a pentatonic gesture, so I used that idea, and, combined with some medieval cadences, some Duruflé-inspired counterpoint, and a sprinkling of Wagnerian harmony, I painted the musical picture with an ecstatic, twenty-first- century ending.

What marvelous things would happen upon this Holy night. You are the Son of GOd, the One the seers have said will bring tous salvation. A great and mighty King, Isaiash has foretold would come to offer exaltation. You are the Lord of Hosts, God of Israel; One who's sent to sanctify each nation. Octavo. 16 pages. Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) #6531047. Published by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) (A0.953630). Asleep in a Blanket Spun of Energy for mixed chorus and electronic track with music by Adrienne Inglis (ASCAP) and electronic track by Trevor F. Shaw (ASCAP), a setting of the poem We Are Returning Always by Margaret Noodin from Weweni, poems in Anishinaabemowin and EnglishComposed for Inversion Ensemble’s March 2019 Dream Keeper concert, Asleep in a Blanket Spun of Energy for mixed chorus and electronic track evokes vivid imagery of Margaret Noodin’s poem We Are Returning Always. Honoring the composer’s Ojibwe ancestors, the piece sets all of the English text and a few key words of the Anishinaabemowin text from the bilingual poem that beautifully captures a glimpse into the natural and celestial wonders of the Ojibwe world. The music reflects a taste of the syncopated embellished singing, pentatonic melodies, and steady drumbeat characteristic of Ojibwe music. The electronic track provides both a compelling rhythmic foundation and a fantastical sonic representations of the moon, nebulae, supernovae, aurora borealis, and the forests of the Ojibwe lands. In addition to being the director of EQI, Margaret Noodin is an Assistant Professor in the English Department and American Indian Studies. She is a poet and the author of Bawaajimo: A Dialect of Dreams in Anishinaabe Language and Literature (2014) and Weweni: Poems in Anishinaabemowin and English (2015). She teaches the Anishinaabemowin language at UWM. Margaret is the editor of ojibwe.net. Noodin holds an MFA in Creative Writing and a PhD in English and Linguistics, both received at the University of Minnesota. Her doctoral dissertation is titled Native American Literature in tribal context: Anishinaabe Aadisokaanag Noongom (2001)Electronic track is available at http://adrienneinglis.com.

Choral Choir (Mixed) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1028226 Composed by Candace R. Lambert. Christian. Octavo. 19 pages. Candace R. Lambert #3452119. Published by Candace R. Lambert (A0.1028226). Appropriate for church services, college, or professional groups.Context: The piece receives its title from my little sister's nickname. Dia was born 10 weeks early and weighed less than 3 pounds. The doctors told us that she would not live. My father began to pray and certain scriptures came to his mind. Soon, he and my mother began to remind each other of these scriptures. Dia ended up making it. I tell her God must have something planned for her if she survived such a rough start.Performance: The piece opens with a joyful piano solo followed by the higher voices' entrance. These are the mothers exclaiming their joy for the new coming baby. The lower voices then make their statement in their own melody. They are the fathers expressing the excitement of the chlid's birth. The piano takes a turn into the minor key. A soloist represents the doctor delivering the bad news as the rest of the choir makes waiting room sounds. Have people texting or talking on the phone, flipping through magazines, or rustling papers. The alto soloist then repeats the doctor's message. The higher voices began to weep and cry as the father begins to pray. The 3 basses (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) answer in scripture. The father begins to recite the scripture with God and soon the rest of the choir joins. The key modulates to the Major 3rd as the piano solo returns to represent the child living.

Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital #1.3501-E. Published by Galaxy Music Corporation - Digital (MQ.1.3501-E). English.Alfred, Lord Tennyson (1809–1892) wrote Crossing the Bar in 1889, only a few years before his death. Although it was not his last poem, he requested that Crossing the Bar appear as the final poem in all collections of his work. This poem describes a person not only at peace, but also perhaps awaiting the time of eternal rest and peace. The journey begins at sunset in a minor mode and finishes in the relative major after having crossed the bar. Both the first C minor chord and the final E-flat major chord have an added F-natural meant to represent the initial call which has guided the protagonist’s journey toward seeing his pilot face to face.

SATB choir and organ - Medium - Digital Download SKU: MQ.AE152-E Composed by Sheldon Curry. Lessons and Carols. 21 pages. Aureole Editions - Digital #AE152-E. Published by Aureole Editions - Digital (MQ.AE152-E). English.Commissioned by True Concord (Tucson, AZ) for their annual Christmas Lessons and Carols, these settings of the Magnificat and Nunc dimittis are powerful and effective. Melding an almost British sensibility with a contemporary musical language, they require an advanced ensemble and capable organist. We think you'll agree that the results are stunning.Notes from the Composer:Magnificat: Imagine you are a teenage Jewish girl a little over 2 thousand years ago. You have almost no power to affect any change in your life other than the biological ones that are happening to you daily. You've been feeling strange lately, nauseous in the mornings. You're soon to be married to an older man you barely know. Your cousin Elizabeth is pregnant and you are on your way to visit her. As you walk, you silently meditate on your current state of affairs, absentmindedly chanting a prayer you've heard since birth.Suddenly, a bright light and strange being appear, the being greets you and gives you the most bizarre news anyone has ever heard. After your initial shock, you can't help but praise God.Nunc dimittis: An old man is at the temple in Jerusalem. Year after year, day after day, hour after hour he has longed for deliverance from Roman oppression and the coming of Messiah. On this day, as he trudges along, he encounters a young girl, an older man and a baby. Not unusual, but something about the child catches his eye and draws him to the family. As he stands staring at the child, suddenly he knows. He knows! This is the One he has been waiting for. The long wait is over. The search is ended. He takes the baby from the mother and holds him close. He feels not elation as much as relief. He can now rest in peace.

Published by Jeffrey Ouper (A0.866214). Winter's Breath is an original Christmas song for SATB Choir & Piano accompaniment. There is some divided parts in the soprano. The song's duration is about 6 minutes. Winter's Breath is perfect for holiday concerts and worship services. There is also a version for solo voice available.About the song:Winter’s Breath is an original Christmas song (original music and lyrics) composed in 2014. The lyrics embrace both a secular and religious message of peace, love, and hope inspired by the beauty of winter snow. I really wanted to write a more profound Christmas song with an important message embracing a modern view of Christmas since so many songs are commercialized or limited in meaning.Having lived in the Arizona desert since 2007, snow has become a novelty to me, and I was inspired by its beauty and the memories I had of winter growing up in northern Illinois. The chorus that repeats throughout the song presents an irony of winter warming the soul. I found this to be both interesting and also meaningful in that I was describing my new viewpoint of winter snow (seeing more beauty in it than before) and presenting a metaphor for life-one that encourages the listener to see the beauty in something that most northerners despise. The first verse begins with sensory perceptions including seeing, hearing, touching, and smelling various natural qualities of winter. The second verse describes the joy of children playing in the snow and their belief in winter stories. The third verse is directed at worrying adults with a message of hope for the future. The bridge encourages the listener to look past the negativity and differences in other people and look towards Christmas and the new year for a hope renewed. The final verse concludes with the traditional religious view of Christmas tradition.

Octavo. 44 pages. Guido Menestrina #368381. Published by Guido Menestrina (A0.828704). Anthem which was performed in King Henry the Seventh's Chappel at the Funeral of the most Noble & Victorious Prince John Duke of Marlborough By Giovanni Bononcini (1670-1747) transcribed by Guido Menestrina Il padre, Giovanni Maria Bononcini (Buononcini) (1642-1678), era stato violinista e compositore: attivo alla corte di Modena, aveva scritto un trattato, Musico prattico, pubblicato nel 1673.

Choral Choir (SATB) - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1277132 Composed by Adrian Gagiu. 21st Century,Christian,Classical,Latin. Octavo. 128 pages. Adrian Gagiu #868444. Published by Adrian Gagiu (A0.1277132). Missa Solemnis in B major, op. 27, vocal score and piano part (for rehearsal purposes only). Based on its Neo-classical style, this setting of the Roman Catholic mass text could possibly work as a festive mass (missa solemnis) with trumpets and timpani, and its duration would fit such a solemn service. However, its intense and sometimes dramatic treatment and universal addressability due to its well-known and rather concentrated text, yet also due to eliminating the „Filioque†(which would still fit the rhythm of the repeated „qui ex Patreâ€, should any Catholics ever wish to perform this as a mass) make it rather a „liturgical oratorio for all nationsâ€, more appropriate in the concert hall. The work has had a long gestation: imagined in 1984 after the composer’s first contact with Beethoven’s masterpiece, then sketched first in 1987-1989, and many of its themes date back from those years. Its working out is quite polyphonic, discretely modal and cyclical, and also full of centuries-old musical symbols traditionally associated with the setting of the mass text: e.g. unisons for the more dogmatical parts, Baroque dotted rhythms at the Nativity (the first coming of the  King of Kings), „rex caelestis†and also at his Passion (whose setting is discretely inspired by folkloric Romanian laments), the „anabasis†gesture at „Gloria in excelsis Deoâ€, „et ascendit in caelisâ€, „in remissionem peccatorum†and the resurrection, a flute trill standing for the Holy Spirit who has come ’like a dove’ at „et incarnatus estâ€, a cross-shaped texture at „crucifixusâ€, and some word-painting (hushed sonorities at „et invisibiliumâ€, anticipations between orchestra and chorus at „et exspecto†etc.). Moreover, certain symbolic roles are assigned to the instrumental groups when alone (the organ represents God the Father and transcendence, the winds and/or solo voices represent God the Son and humanity, and the strings represent the Holy Spirit). „Kyrie†is restrained and soft, besides the powerful chords opening the respective sections of its tripartite, simple structure, and it leans towards Palestrina’s serene modality and counterpoint. „Gloria†begins with a colorful orchestral introduction depicting discretely the shepherds who kept watch over their flocks right before the Nativity, and then gradually the bright revelation. „Credo†has an orchestral introduction as well, but powerful, recurring and based on the beginning of the plainchant hymn „Pange linguaâ€, made famous by Mozart’s last symphony and by other Classical composers. Both „Gloria†and „Credo†end with extended, powerful and elaborate fugues („in gloria Dei Patris†and „et vitam venturi saeculiâ€, respectively) with dramatic modulations and sometimes with enthusiastic syncopations at odds with the words’ accents, a la Stravinsky. The same sections plus „Agnus Dei†end with soft quartal harmonies suggesting transcendent appeasement (similar harmonies appear powerfully at the beginning of „Sanctusâ€). „Judicare†quotes the beginning of the well-known „Dies irae†plainchant tune, and the Consecration between the „Sanctus†and „Benedictus†sections is represented by a contemplative prelude for solo organ, quoting Lutheran chorales, too. Another long orchestral introduction, suggesting the Last Judgment and based on traditional Byzantine hymns, opens „Agnus Deiâ€, which includes another quotation (the famous ’Dresden Amen’ at „qui tollis peccata mundi†and „dona nobis pacemâ€). In the final section, with its refined simplicity, the choral voices enter in descending order, and the „Kyrie eleison†theme is briefly remembered, then it ends softly and peacefully. Total duration: 50 min. Performing Rights Organization: SOCAN. The mp3 audio clip is Kyrie.
