She is known for writing “A Hymn for Aviators” (1915). It was known as “Lord, Guard and Guide the Men Who Fly,” and also as the United States Air Force Hymn. It was set to Mozart's “Dona Nobis Pacem,” a waltz. Various phrases and verses were used in the United States Navy Hymn, “Eternal Father, Strong to Save,” and alluded to in the United States Space Force Hymn, “Creator of the Universe.” Former Air Force Chaplain and Officer, theologian and hymnist, Major James F. Linzey (Ret.), believed that military hymns should not be waltzes. So he converted the timing of Mozart’s piece to four-four timing, giving the Air Force Hymn traditional timing that is fit for a hymn. James Linzey is the General Editor of the New Tyndale Version (NTV) Bible translation.

Based on the events of 9/11 and including audio clips from where the airport officials indicated the carnage on board one of the planes that struck the former World Trade Centers 1 and 2 on Tuesday, September 11th, 2001. I was 12 and a half years old at the time, and my brother was 10 and a half. Before he woke up, he had nightmares about flames. That was really creepy. The song centers on the trauma that the elementary school students across the street from the destruction in Manhattan faced as they witnessed the planes strike the towers, and everything that ensued. It uses the opening melody of Rachmaninoff's 2nd Piano Concerto, repeated and with the addition of drums, a wild bass solo, and some electric guitar riffs. It's a little painful even for me to listen to. I listened to it a lot this evening before posting it for sale.Stephen Sullivan- 02/20/2024Southeast Indiana *.

Following its release, the song became an instant hit with music fans in North America.In September 2018, Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli released a classically flavoured English/Italian version of the song recorded with his son Matteo. Matteo wrote the Italian and additional English lyrics for this recording, in collaboration with Fortunato Zampaglione. This version of the song features in the end credits of the Disney film, The Nutcracker and The Four Realms.In 2019 A Great Big World recorded their own version of Fall on Me in collaboration with American singer/songwriter Christina Aguilera. Then came the horror of October 7th in Israel and I was compelled to compose THE SONG OF ESTHER as a statement against antisemitism. When Xerxes (bass) was king of Persia, called Ahasu-e'rus ( not poetic) I wrote this religious operetta,which is dead serious about how Esther ( soprano) is taken as a queen and she risks her life to save her people. Evil, personified by Haman (tenor,) plans a pogram of all Persian Jews, because Mordechai , Esther's uncle ( no solo)will not bow before him. The 10 chapters of the Book of Esther come alive in this piece, which I hope will be sung in synagaogues along with the reading of Esther at Purim.

The work was commissioned by Michael Paine, and nos. 4 and 5 of the set were premiered by Mr. Paine at the piano with Amanda Hamley, Soprano, Prudence Raper, Contralto, John English, Tenor, and Kevin O'Donnell, Baritone, in St. Anne's Church, London, September 6, 1998, in their World Premiere. The live recording of this premiere has been lost. The audio clip is the opening of the first piece, Vivamus, Mea Lesbia in the Composer's Virtual Instruments Demo. Later that summer I came across a composition contest that was looking for a piece about success/belief/hope. I started putting music to the text in late September. In October my mother was diagnosed with terminal bone cancer and she passed away a few days before Thanksgiving. Her passing affected me in ways I never expected. Music went from being the thing in which I could find solace, to the thing that reminded me of my mother's absence. I found myself unable to write my own music for quite some time. During the Lenten season of 2015, one of the Pastors at the church for which I work gave a sermon using this text. The sermon was particularly moving and I decided it was time to revisit the piece. The music was finished within 1 week. Just as my mother had done for me countless times, writing this piece gave me the hope and inspiration I needed to get through a difficult time in my life. I dedicate this work to my mother, Cynthia Marie Richards.
