A good choice for a pop-fusion harmonic language that will speak to your young adult choir, and possible open some meaningful dialogue about relationships.The composer writes: In the wisdom or fog of High School, I would daydream about what love truly was. I pined away from summer camp for the boy back home, imagining that I had found the Real Thing. It is now several decades later, and after a few bumps and bruises suffered from trying to figure out just what true love actually is, I have discovered that this text is more about the journey of love and not about the destination. This poem, like great Art, shifts and changes in meaning as the reader grows in understanding and changes. Prayer of Saint Francis is based on the hymn Make Me a Channel of Your Peace by Sebastian Temple, which uses text from a prayer written by Saint Francis of Assisi. Part of the inspiration for the piece comes from Madison CRC, a church I belonged to and worked in for about five years, which was focused on interracial development and combating racism. It is often clear to a person who has belonged to any group of people (for example, a multi-racial church or a choir), that it takes a lot of effort for different people to unite harmoniously to achieve something greater than what any lone person could accomplish. This song is a prayer about unity, about peace between people who are different from each other. Different, in this case, refers to every sort of difference, whether in race, ethnicity, background, social class, gender, sexuality, age, religion, politics, personality, preferences, musical ability, etc. This piece includes different musical styles working in tandem, thus illustrating that differences can work together to create beauty and harmony. Though written by Christians, this is not just a prayer for Christians, but for all of us, that we may treat those around us with love, care, and respect, thus bringing peace to our communities, both locally and globally. We're Forgiven (God of Grace) was originally scored in a Piano/Guitar/Voice format, but for this Advent/Christmas season, Servant Song Music & Ministry has produced this full SATB Choral arrangement, as well! This particular arrangement is suitable for Beginner and Early Intermediate Church Choirs and Worship Teams, including very small ensembles. If you don't have any men in your choir, you can turn the score into a Soprano/Alto 2-part version pretty easily, too. This short, accessible piece of worship music was written as a liturgical response for use during Christian services during the Advent/Christmas/Epiphany seasons of the church calendar. It returns the work of the people TO the people, placing the Words of Assurance into the mouths and hearts of the congregation and/or choir, rather than having the minister alone speaking the words of absolution/assurance after the Prayer of Confession. Set in a simple key for beginning accompanists and including chord charts for guitarists (or pianists who prefer to play by reading the melody notes in the RH and playing by chord symbol with their LH), this song has been set in a perfect vocal range for congregational voices and/or church choirs. I. Old Beggarman- Two interwoven jigs, It Was an Old Beggarman, Weary and Wet and Ag an mBóithrÃn Buà (At the Yellow Little Road), of both a young lady's observation of a wandering beggarman and his unrequited, possibly unexpressed, love for her. They are offered together as alternate perspectives from potential romantic partners, and features lilting, mouth music, or portaireacht bhéil (port a'bhéil, mouth-singing) as it is known in Irish Gaelic.II. I Would Rock My Child to Sleep- A sentimental Irish lullaby Irish lullaby Do Chuirfinnse Féin Mo Leanbh a Chodladh (I Would Put My Own Child to Sleep) highlights the shifting roles of a caregiver: the parent full of hopes of the parent for the child morphing over a lifetime into a blessing from the grown child to the aged parent. Each verse is progressively based upon an overall narrative: 1. hopes of the parent for the child 2. an easy, natural rhythm to family life, possibly the child is older now, and there is a dream of family continuance 3. uncertainty over who is nurturing who: does the child now sing to comfort the parent? 4. a closing blessing for peace and rest that hearkens back to the successful sleep of a tired infant III.
