UPC: 000308012118.Although recent publications indicate that his most creative contribution to musical forms of the middle baroque may have been in the development of the Italian chamber cantata, Giacomo Carissimi (1605-1674) is best remembered for his 16 extant oratorios, with Jephte generally accepted as his masterpiece. In many ways, Carissimi's oratorios are an enlargement of techniques which he set forth in his cantatas. Both forms stem from the passion for dramatization which was sweeping Italy at the time of opera, and it is this dramatic quality, sustained on several levels, that this edition attempts to delineate. A realized continuo is provided with possible additional instrumentation suggested. Likewise, vocal ornamentation is indicated, although the performer is free to embellish at will. A literal English translation of the Latin text has also been provided.

Pupils also could practice the same lesson in different keys for educational and musical purposes. Each arietta is accompanied by historical notes, interpretative advice and handwritten notes (where present indicate in italics) by Vaccaj himself. All the verses of Metastasio have been rewritten with the orthoepic accents correctly marked on all words of dubious Italian pronunciation. The phonosyntactic doublings are also indicated. An orthoepic legend precedes the method. The appendix includes both the detailed historical notes of each work from which the verses are taken, and the series of intervals to be sung that Vaccaj wrote for the historical editions. The basso continuo has also been made of these sung solfeggios to facilitate their performance by young pianists. This new complete edition of the work, edited in the graphics and paginated from scratch for easier and clearer reading, is further enriched by the precious presentation of Maestro Antonio Juvarra.

After a retirement due to health concerns, his second Christmas hymn dating from about 1849 was published in The Christian Register. Of it a fellow minister by the name of Morrison wrote, I always feel that, however poor my Christmas sermon may be, the reading and singing of It Came Upon the Midnight Clear are enough to make up for all deficiencies.”Here the tune is NOEL (CMD). The arrangement begins in Eb moving up to F, followed by an expressive (optionally a cappella) section in Dm. After a brief return to F for the final stanza (with a descant limited to top space F) there is a subtle surprise by joy to Em and on to a singable ending in G, with options for second soprano. The voicing range from unison to 2-part and on to 3 and 4 parts, but in a singable, approachable range for choirs of medium ability and only a hint of easily sung divisi.The accompaniment is active but playable and the score suggests a harpsichord voice as the keyboard option. In the language of the New Testament, Koine Greek, the simple phrase Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison means Lord, have mercy; Christ have mercy. By utilizing close harmonies and a fluid increase of intensity, Mark Kline’s composition is meant to suggest the heavenl-like sounds of grace in the hearts of penitents. At two minutes in length, this Kyrie works well in both church and concert settings, engaging a listening audience or aiding in reflective prayer and meditation. In the context of the Mass, the liturgical form used is three Kyrie’s, three Christe’s, and three Kyrie’s. This arrangement can also function in the Mass as a song of thanksgiving after Communion or as an opening or closing piece. Mark Kline's Kyrie is written in ten indispensable parts, and can benefit greatly from multiple singers on each part (especially the men’s continuo with its close harmonies).

Trascritto da Guido Menestrina dal manoscritto che si conserva presso la Biblioteca Nazionale di Spagna a Madrid. Nella versione che si propone non è stato sviluppato il basso numerato e a livello di suono il secondo coro è stato sostituito da un quartetto d'archi.
