This challenging arrangement is the perfect addition to a college trombone recital or presentation piece. Lively, entertaining, engaging and full of beautiful counterpoint, Dvorak Front and Center is bound to be an audience pleaser from note one! Logically placed generous rehearsal markings are carefully set and a score is included to facilitate efficient preparation and rehearsal. There is an opportunity for an alto trombone double in the first part (not transposed). The first part does explore the very high register (triple D) but ossia notes are always included as an option. This arrangement for 4 like instruments was created with a Trombone quartet in mind, but has also served well for a tuba/euphonium quartet. This could work for other ensembles, such as a a bassoon ensemble. With chords in the bass trombone part for easy addition of a rhythm section, this could be jazzed up a little by some creative players. Irving Berlin emigrated to the United States in 1893 at the age of 5 with his parents, fleeing Jewish persecution in Russia. He died in 1989 with over 1500 songs to his credit.The published version of the song, A Pretty Girl Is Like A Melody, was an excerpt from a longer version used in the Ziegfeld Follies. It was the hit song of the 1919 Follies and became the theme song. It was also used frequently in Miss America pageants prior to 1955. Berlin believed this song was in the top 5 of the hundreds of songs he wrote. The arranger, Bob Coil, is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of music, where he studied bass trombone with Betty Glover. Dr. Coil is the leader of the Bones of Cincinnatus trombone ensemble in Cincinnati, OH.

The prayer has often been set to music.Frank Gazda has beautifully arranged four musical settings of the prayer for Trombone Quartet by: Jacob Arcadelt (Renaissance), Johann Joseph Fux (Baroque), Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Classical) and Giuseppe Verdi (Romantic).Although originally composed as four-part choral settings, they work perfectly for the Trombone. Each piece stands on its own as a work of beauty, or the four can be performed as a whole. They are at a moderately advanced level of difficulty.

This easy arrangement for trombone quartet was adapted to be simple to perform and understand the structure of the original work for various levels of musical knowledge. It can be played freely by beginning students due to the ease imposed on the piece; however, this does not preclude it from being played by professionals and music teachers. It is also ideal for academic recitals, weddings, student method and ceremonies that are arranged in the same way as the piece contains. The Cantata 156 (BWV 156) was written for the third Sunday after Epiphany in 1729, and was first performed on January 23 of that year. The text is by Picander, one of Bach's favorite librettists. of the four cantatas written by Bach for the feast, it was the last and only one scored for solo voice. This is a choral cantata, employing a choral melody in several movements. Cantata 156, in fact, employs two different choral melodies and texts in the second and sixth movements. A cantata is a sung symphony consisting of several parts, one of which is the Arioso, which is the initial instrumental part.
