Elgar composed Salut d'Amour, Op. 12 in 1888 while he was romantically involved with Caroline Alice Roberts (the work is dedicated to her). It's original title was Liebesgruss (Love's Greeting). It wasn't until the present title was used at the suggestion of his publisher that the work took off in popularity. It is one of Elgar's best-known works and has inspired numerous arrangements for widely varying instrumental combinations. Andrew Poirier's lovely arrangement for trombone quartet of advanced performers will make a beautiful addition to your recital.

Published by James Haynor (A0.782216). William Byrd (birth date variously given as c.1539/40 or 1543 – 4 July 1623), was an English composer of the Renaissance. He wrote in many of the forms current in England at the time, including various types of sacred and secular polyphony, keyboard (the so-called Virginalist school), and consort music. Although he produced sacred music for Anglican services, sometime during the 1570s he became a Roman Catholic and wrote Catholic sacred music later in his life. Ave Verum Corpus written for four voices is a great example of his work and transcribes well for trombone quartet. ( Duration 3:30 )

Tarantella is a quick Italian style dance in triple meter, 3. Faith is romantic and flowing with emotion and 4. This is Ludwig van Beethoven’s last complete symphony. The choral symphony, better known as the Ninth Symphony or The Ninth, is one of the best-known works in the Western repertoire, considered an icon and predecessor of Romantic music and one of Beethoven’s great masterpieces. This arrangement adapted for trombone quartet was designed to make its listeners weep with emotion, because the adaptation preserves the original essence of the work, keeping its integrity faithful to what Beethoven wanted to transmit, with only a slight change in tone and addition of harmonic resources in the structure of the arrangement. Even though it is a funeral march, it is well suited for any musical performance occasion, being intended for beginner students who want to immerse themselves in the universe of romantic music, and nothing better than starting with the transitional composer of this period, which also does not prevent professional teachers from using it for recitals, academic presentations or didactic material in their classes as an ensemble practice. Ludwig van Beethoven's Piano Sonata No. 14 in C minor sharp, Op. 27, No. 2, is one of his most popular compositions and was an audience favorite even in his day. Written when Beethoven was 31, the Moonlight Sonata (Mondscheinsonate in German) was composed after he finished some commissioned works, but there is no evidence that he was hired to write this work. It did not receive its nickname until 1832, five years after Beethoven's death. It was the critic Ludwig Rellstab who compared the music to a moonlighting on Lake Lucerne. This comparison was adopted as a nickname for the work. Called Quasi una fantasia by the author - like its companion Op. 27, No. 1 - the piece was completed in 1801 and dedicated the following year to one of the composer's pupils. Beethoven chose to open the sonata with a slow, hypnotic arpeggio movement, the best known of the entire work. The dotted rhythm of its minimal melody evokes the tradition of 'Trauermusik' (funeral music).
