The arrangement begins in traditional Americana gospel style, then as it modulates, moves through different guitar styles, from Chet Atkins style country, to Wes Montgomery style jazz in octaves, to down-home earthy blues. The arrangement has a Lead Guitar (melody part) and a Rhythm Guitar part (chords played with classical and jazz inflections, including some Freddie Green style chord comping). Duos might decide to trade-off, alternating lead and rhythm parts as it moves from section A-to-B-to-C, etc. Ensembles might assign the different Lead sections to the groups of players. The Boxer is an iconic work by Simon and Garfunkel. Here it is arranged in four guitar parts, suitable for both quartet or large guitar ensemble.
This arrangement has the following benefits in a single download:
(1) A full score is provided showing both the notes and TAB
(2) Individual parts are provided in both notes and TAB. These are shown on separate sheets. I am aware that many teachers dislike TAB so the option is given to include or exclude it as the purchaser wishes
(3) Each part has melodic interest. The primary vocal lines are played by guitars 1 & 2. Guitar 3 plays accompanying ornamental figures and also the instrumental solos transcribed from the original recording. Guitar 4 plays a finger-style chordal accompaniment throughout using recognisable chord shapes.
The arrangement is appropriate for intermediate players but will be suitable as an unusual repertoire item for professional groups as well. It is an outstanding work for music school concerts. A performance will last for approximately five minutes.

This arrangement is designed to suit the flexible requirements of modern guitar teachers teaching a huge range of instruments and styles. The parts are suitable for beginner/intermediate guitarists playing classical, steel-string folk, electric and bass guitars.

Guitar 4, as well as showing a bass line includes chord symbols with suggested rhythms. These chords are optional.
Guitar 4, which is the bass line, is also provided in bass clef to be doubled by an optional bass guitar. There is fingering provided to suit that instrument.
The bass guitar part is also provided in bass guitar TAB.
The guitar parts can be played just as effectively by electric guitars.
Telstar was composed by Joe Meek and performed by The Tornados in 1962. The single reached number one in the U.S. and U.K. charts.An interesting piece of trivia for your introductions: George Bellamy, the rhythm guitarist with The Tornados is the father of Matt Bellamy, lead singer and guitarist of Muse.

It was used aspart of the soundtrack for the film ?Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn ? Part 1?.
