Originally recorded by Bobby Vinton, the song was twice recorded by Karen Carpenter, both as a solo act and as a member of the Carpenters. Between 1979 and 1980, Karen Carpenter went to New York to record a solo album with Phil Ramone as producer. Make Believe It's Your First Time was one of twenty songs recorded. This version was ultimately shelved until 1996, with the release of her eponymous album, Karen Carpenter. Karen's solo version is far more subdued with only a piano, bass and drums as her accompaniment. The Carpenters recorded a version of Make Believe It's Your First Time for their 1981 album Made in America. The song, like Karen's solo version, went unreleased in her lifetime and was not included on the album. After Karen's death in 1983, the song was placed on the Carpenters' next album, Voice of the Heart, and was released as a single. Richard Carpenter's arrangement uses far more instrumentation, adds a bridge written specifically for this version, key modulation during the last chorus, and the inclusion of background vocals.

Thanks, John. Time in a Bottle is a song by singer-songwriter Jim Croce. He wrote the lyrics after his wife Ingrid told him she was pregnant in December 1970. It appeared on Croce's 1972 ABC debut album You Don't Mess Around with Jim and was featured in the 1973 ABC made-for-television movie She Lives! After he was killed in a plane crash in September 1973, the song was aired frequently on radio, and demand for a single release built. The single of Time in a Bottle became Croce's second and final track to reach number 1 in the United States.

The track was written by Glenn Frey and Don Henley and appeared on the 1973 album Desperado. Although it was never released as a single, it became one of Eagles' best-known songs. It ranked No. 494 on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.. According to Henley, Desperado was based on a song he started in 1968, written in the style of old songs by Stephen Foster. The track was written by Glenn Frey and Don Henley and appeared on the 1973 album Desperado. Although it was never released as a single, it became one of Eagles' best-known songs. It ranked No. 494 on Rolling Stone's 2004 list of The 500 Greatest Songs of All Time.. According to Henley, Desperado was based on a song he started in 1968, written in the style of old songs by Stephen Foster. In 1972, after they had recorded their first album Eagles in London, Glenn Frey and Henley decided that they should write songs together, and within a day or two after returning from London, they wrote Desperado. They also wrote Tequila Sunrise in the first week of their collaboration.

Not long after his son's birth, the father is repeatedly unable to spend time with him due to his job, despite his son looking up to him and saying he will grow up to be just like his father. After the son graduates from college, he declines his father's offer to relax with him and instead asks for the car keys. And the story goes on from there. Written by vocalist and guitarist George Harrison, it was the first composition by the member to be released as a single by the band and, along with his other contribution to the album, Here Comes the Sun, is seen by music historians as the beginning of Harrison's rise as a songwriter to the level of Paul McCartney and John Lennon, who exerted great influence on the group's repertoire. This song began life in 1930 as a nine-bar phrase with the working title There's No Stopping Me Now. Its title phrase Nice work if you can get it came from an English magazine. It was one of nine songs the Gershwin brothers wrote for the movie A Damsel in Distress in which it was performed by Fred Astaire with backing vocals by The Stafford Sisters. The song was published in 1937. The first jazz recording of the work was by Tommy Dorsey three weeks after the release of the film. The song was recorded by many jazz singers and adopted by bebop instrumentalists; Jerry Newman recorded pianist Thelonious Monk performing the tune in 1941 at Minton's Playhouse, a nightclub closely connected with early bebop, and he subsequently recorded it several times.
