It is full of energy and has a driving beat in the low flutes. I included a transcription of the sax solo from the Crystals recording, but if you have a jazzer in your group who would like to improvise during the bridge, by all means do that instead. This piece presents an excellent opportunity to get your audience moving:  vamp the first measure and get your audience clapping the back-beats for you. He took two pieces that he loved - Bach's BWV29 and the Leontovych's Carol of the Bells - and combined them into one fabulous piece. This arrangement for flute choir is mostly a transcription, but there are a few changes to notes and parts to accommodate the instrumentation. Scored for 4 C, alto, bass and contrabass flutes. There is an optional cello part that doubles the contrabass flute part, which can also be played by any bass clef C instrument in a similar range. Derric Johnson's choral arrangement of this piece is simple and quite effective. This arrangement for flute choir is a transcription of Derric Johnson's arrangement with an added key change and extra running eighths by me to create a fuller harmony that I felt was better suited for instrumental music. It is a combination of Still Still Still with a hint of Hark the Herald Angels Sing. This arrangement is great for groups with intermediate musical skill. Scored for 4 C, alto, bass, and contrabass flutes. There is an optional cello part that doubles the contrabass. If your group does no have a contrabass flute, it could also be substituted by any C instrument in a similar range, like a bassoon. Duration: 3.5 minutes.

This is the beginning of Scene 4 of the oratorio, The Annunciation to the Shepherds, after the birth of Jesus. The word pastorale in baroque music is a melody in thirds over a drone bass. Originally called Pifa, this movement was named after the shepherd bagpipers - pifferari - who used to play their instruments in the streets of Rome at Christmastime. Scored for 2 C, alto, and bass flute. If your choir has a contrabass flute, it can double the bass part. There is an optional cello part that doubles the bass an octave lower. Duration: 2.5 minutes.

This sextet was written for brass instruments, and is one of his best-known pieces. It is quite a gem, and I wanted to make it available to other instrumental groups to perform. The entire work is available for purchase, but this selection is the 4th movement of 4 only. Scored for 4 C, alto, and bass flutes. There is an optional cello part that doubles the bass part. If your choir doesn't have a contrabass, then it can be substituted by another bass, or any C instrument in a similar range, but it is a part that needs to be covered, as it has important (but quite simple bass lines).  There is an optional upright string bass part that doubles the contrabass an octave below.   There are 2 body percussion parts that are quite simple, but particularly important.  It's a stomp and clap (or snap).  You could also use 2 different drums, buckets, etc.  Substitute a low pitch for the stomp and a higher one for the clap. Duration: 3 minutes.

ALL PURCHASES COME WITH SCORE AND PARTSThe Divertimento for Flute Choir was requested by flautist David Greenalgh for the Flute choir Tooti Flooti and was written in June and July 2016. It has 3 short movements and a total duration of about 15 minutes.The outer movements are speedy, light hearted and sunny natured, while the middle movement is slower and rather haunting. The 3rd movement is the only one with a title, “The June Prune Tuneâ€, and there is a funny story behind the name. Many summers ago, my husband, Bob, and I were playing guitar and penny whistle together at home and I just happened to be snacking on dried prunes at the time. Bob joked that I should write a tune called the Prune Tune. I went a step further and said, June prune Tune, but it had to be written in June and I had to be eating prunes while actually writing it. Well, for the two Junes of 2014 and 2015 I tried to do it but no tune came. Nothing. Silence! Then, on the 1st June 2016 I was dashing home from work and I dived into a small corner shop for a sandwich and happened to spot a pack of dried prunes along with other dried fruits. So, in the local park, I stopped to have my butty and prunes while watching the birds and as I was eating the prunes a tune suddenly was there in my mind and I was subconsciously humming it. Like a thunderbolt it hit me! This was it! The June Prune Tune had arrived. Luckily I nearly always have paper on me so at once I scribbled it down, while munching very deliberately on the only two prunes left in the pack! Music doesn’t always have to be filled with sorrow and sadness and turmoil, even though much of mine is. But sometimes it’s just great to let the humour and flippancy flow,too, and simply enjoy having a good joke and a laugh. The Instrumentation is:Flute 1 – doubling Piccolo, Flute 2 – doubling piccolo, Flute 3 – doubling piccolo, Flute 4, Alto flute, Bass flute and string Double Bass.As the work was written for a specific group of players, the parts are single and do not divide within themselves. This, however, should not prevent it also working well with more than one player per part.The double bass part sometimes doubles the bass flute line, but also is an independent part in its own right.

You can also use wind chimes, a little xylophone, bells, etc.  The idea is to create a magical mood without overpowering the music.  Play this part wherever there is a note in the measure. Always keep the melody prominent.  The piccolo should always be played softly - at the equivalent volume of the group’s piano.  Play this slowly and freely, with a lot of rubato.  Duration: 3.75 minutes.
