She finds herself running away from anonymous threats, the startling sounds of things she cannot see and relies on signs the forests gives her to bring her to safety.One might imagine the end of this piece as arriving at the edge of cliff to a striking view, the presence cozy cabin, or a humble village. Elvis adapted this song as well, in his popular Can't help falling in love with you.Hayu Leilot -- little known outside of Israel, this breathtaking song tells the story of love and loss in the days of the first Jewish settlements in Palestine.Salut D'Amour -- Edward Elgar was a penniless and unknown composer in 1888 when, smitten by his love for the aristocratic Caroline Alice Roberts, he wrote this haunting melody. The piece is known for its high drama, dark textures, and bold harmonies, which Mussorgsky's colleagues considered excitingly expressive and raw. The work was unpublished and unrevised at the time of the composer's death, and his colleagues, including Rimsky-Korsakov, later revised it. The composition remains a powerful representation of Russian folk tradition. It is associated with the pagan festivities of the midsummer Slavic holiday, making it a significant piece in the history of Russian classical music.The legend of the nocturnal revels on St. John's Night in June on a hill called Lysa Hora near Kiev is a prominent Slavic tale that inspired Modest Mussorgsky's Night on Bald Mountain. The legend tells of a demon, Chernobog, who leads the revels until a far-off church bell sounds disperse the Spirits of Darkness.
