Remember the 80's? One of my favorite memories was President Ronald Reagan, a well-loved man that made America a better place. This song is a tribute to our former president. Written in C minor, this late intermediate piano solo is a fun jazz/blues piece played in a swing rhythm complete with fingering, triplets (quarter, eighth, and 16th note), grace notes, and left hand broken octaves that walk up and down the bass section of the piano. The bridge changed to the relative Major of Eb and is an old-time (Happy Days style) rock-n-roll. I think you'll have a lot of fun playing this piece as well as getting some toes tapping. Great for recitals, Assisted Living entertainment, and just for fun. Copyright 2010 by Amy J. Snyder.

This piece is the penultimate number in the collection: Five Longer Piano Pieces. Duration: 5 minutes. Difficulty: Intermediate (Grade 3)Appropriate for schools and students. ‘Charles McCreerys beautifully melodic, intricately textured compositions are infused with classical, romantic and folk idioms.’ - Samantha Gillogly, violinist Charles McCreery was educated at Eton and New College, Oxford. While at Eton he won the Rowe Cup for junior pianists, and in his final year performed Weber's Konzertstück with a chamber orchestra. As an undergraduate he studied piano with Hilda Bor, and won a piano class, adjudicated by Herbert Howells, at the Willesden Music Festival. From 1988 to 1991 he held a Perrott Warrick Studentship from Trinity College, Cambridge, and he has a doctorate from Oxford University. From 1996 to 2000 he was a College Lecturer at Magdalen College, Oxford. In 1996 Charles McCreery's 'Elegy for Violin and Piano' was shortlisted for the Match Composition Prize. A comment on Charles McCreery’s collection of Tolkien songs: ‘For those who only know Tolkien via the recent blood-and-thunder films, this song-cycle by Charles McCreery will give a very different angle on the classic saga. Here we find a gentle and ethereal world, where rhythms lilt and words echo. This beautiful piano arrangement is for advanced intermediate level and is great for church preludes, special music, or just your own home setting. I have composed this piece with influence of the composition style of the great Estonian composer, Arvo Part. The Sun Still Sets on the Mississippi River is a late intermediate level piano solo. The lazy style paints a musical picture of America's mighty river gently rolling along. But when you get to the key change, look out! That mighty river has an exciting rush toward the end, which calms back to that lazy style for the ending. This piece will bring back memories of simpler times, with music reminiscent of the early 1900's. Written in the key of F Major, this piece contains rich jazz chords, echos in the treble, a bridge that changes to 6/8, and a key change to Bb that uses octaves in the R.H. melody. The heading Brightly and Briskly is a general comment on the character's nature, but the tempo of the middle section of the piece should not be faster. The piece portrays the flaw in Jo's character; so the flare-ups in dynamics displays her hot-tempered dramatic nature and yet there is her sorrow and longing in the middle section. It is part of a set of 4. The other 3 being Meg, Beth, and Amy.
