Now six feet apart no ocean protects us. Too bad we didn't learn to breathe under water. I watch television wonder why people are standing so close to each other. I walk in zigzags. My ponytail pulls at the strings of the mask suffocating me. At night I check the doors. But who will sneak in now? The virus is the only one out and about. How old will my grandchildren be when I hold them again? Will the youngest be surprised to see we have bodies attached to our heads that we don’t live on a.

This is an original tune and was inspired by a walk I had with my wife and daughter in Saltburn, a seaside resort just a few miles from where I live. It's a happy feel good tune. The sheet music is for piano solo and it shows the tune more clearly than the YouTube video as a stride piano/ragtime piece with a swing bass left hand.I take it through 3 keys of C, Db and D major. As usual the left hand can be simplified by playing any 10ths as single notes or octaves. Bass notes can often be played an octave higher to lessen the distance stretched. I don't notate dynamics, pedal or fingering as I prefer to leave such issues to the discretion of the individual pianist. Teachers, in any event, can never agree on these things. Also please be aware this is a piano solo and doesn't include notation for the other instruments in my YouTube video. I write all my tunes as piano solos and they are perfect in this format so will have a full sound throughout.I hope you have as much fun playing this tune as I did writing and arranging it.

This piece originally began with the idea of the repeated chords in the right hand which I came up with near the end of 2018. I stumbled across this chord progression and developed it into the first eight bars of the composition. I liked the sound of the main section so I decided to use a Rondo form which is structured as ABACA with section A as the repeated chords in the right hand.It was a lot of fun to write this piece and I learnt many new things whilst writing, especially creating a good structure and developing the A section when it returns throughout the piece. The middle, near to the end section with the Alberti bass gives it a nice break between all of the heavy repeated notes. That's one thing I would have done differently in this piece; separate it a little bit more from the heavy repeated chords.The context and idea behind this piece is a bit more abstract than my other pieces as I usually aim to have a story behind my music but it was born out of a musical idea rather than a philosophical one. However, it seems to convey a frantic mood as well as some times for rest and slowing down.There are some sections that I personally think are still a bit basic, which I think with more experience I will be able to write better. I would have to say the start of the second page, or the ascending chords part sounds quite nice. Overall, I'm fairly happy with the end result, and I have another piece to fully release in the near future. I plan on narrowing down certain parameters to further develop my composition techniques and skills.

Its use of exotic harmony (chromatic mediants, slash-chords, upper extensions) creates a rich, dark palate over which a haunting melody sings. On the first page, the performer must sometimes grab notes with the LH thumb in chords that appear to be played by the RH. The student must also take care on the second page to observe the cross-overs with the left-hand. The effect is of have three hands at the piano. Pedal is used throughout. The amount of less-conventional roles between hands makes this piece good technique-building repertoire. For me, it works very well. Elton himself was well versed in honky tonk, pub piano styles and the chord progression is very accepting of this treatment. If some of the voicings ie 10ths are too large for your left hand simply play single bass notes or octaves instead, or feel free to roll the tenths. Please note this is a piano solo and I haven't notated any of the other instruments in my YouTube arrangement. I do, however, write my arrangements for solo piano first and they sound perfect as such. I don't include fingering, phrasing or dynamic marking as no two piano teachers will agree upon so I leave this trustingly to the individual performer. I do include chord symbols which I find more helpful in learning repertoire.Have fun playing this. I did. I'm a big Elton John fan and this is one of my favourite numbers of his and it was a pleasure to notate it.

Â I took the first 8 bars of melody and set it to an oscillating broken chord triplet pattern setting up a 2 against 3 rhythm. Â I then repeated this 8 bar melody with a reharmonized triplet pattern an octave lower. Â For the final 8 bars I slow down the tempo and rhythm and put it back into simple time. Â It ends with a mesmerizing coda of just the oscillating broken chord triplet pattern.
