You'll be pleasantly surprised, I hope!, at what simple charm this piece exudes. Eventually, the tritones disappear as dissonances, when they are paired with the 3rds that constantly resolve each one, one right after another. hand crossing throughout. Mirroring is at a minimum here, since the hands are constantly working together. Running time is approx. 1 min 45 secs. MBB.

Four-part suite The Seasons for narrator and orchestra Lithuanian composer Kazys Daugėla created on the basis of K. Donelaitis poem The Seasons plots and the most famous artist Vytautas Kazimieras Jonynas (1907-1997) woodcut illustrations. These Donelaitis poem The Seasons illustrations have become classics of Lithuanian art. Composer created his paintings of the suite using native Lithuania Minor folk song melodies. Some of them are written almost 200 years ago. Most songs used are from Christian Bartsch prepared and published by Lithuanian folk songs Song of the votes. If you do not doubt that the song’s soul is in the melody, it should also be true, that the song is understood correctly only when we sing or listen to it – so believed Ch. Bartsch. He could not possibly foresee that the songs that sounded at his time will be wiped out in parallel with the East Prussian population. But after all, maybe he did predict? Therefore, he was rescuing them. The ancient epics and worldview associate The Seasons with cyclical idea of time, which is expressed by the view of The Sun’s path in the sky. The main hero of this musical work is The Sun and the diversity of nature, life and work associated with it. In the Eternal Circle we born, age, die - everything repeats, nothing new happens. In the second part of the The Cares of Winter, the Lithuanian traditional Advent song Sodai, sodai, leliumoj was used and developed.

Passacaille in G minor by Handel: This is the original Handel Theme in G minor with 4 of Handel's variations and the 2 variations from the recent popular Halvorsen version transcribed to G minor. My student liked the Halvorsen version but he was unaware that this was originally a piece by Handel. So I took my favorite variations and original theme in G minor and combined it with 2 of the Halvorsen variations. The Halvorsen variations are in F minor, so I transcribed them to G minor. He performed it for an annual piano incentive program in New Jersey and it was well received and he got a lovely evaluation from the judge on his performance. The Handel in its entirerty, in my opinion, gets a bit too repetitive and so does the Halvorsen in its entirety. So combining a little of the new style into the Baroque style made for an over all more interesting perfromance. Nothing has been simplified. This is Handel and Halvorsen's writing, just put all in one key and does not include all their variations.

Grant Horsley #1011831. Published by Grant Horsley (A0.1431361). This beautiful prelude is no 4 from a set of ten in opus 23. Composed in 1903 I have kept the original key but made significant alterations to make the piece possible to play for pianists who are not quite ready for the full version. A lot of big chords and big stretches have been avoided (there is nothing greater than an octave) but three note chords remain for the power of this prelude. As the original has a lot of polyrhythms (3 against 2) I have adapted these areas so it is far more user friendly, although some still remain. There is quite a bit of crossed hand work especially on page one, which I have left as it is appropriate. I have set it to advanced intermediate level, but the youtube link has the whole score for for you to assess suitability.5 pages around 5.10 in length.

It is the simple idea that one can, at any moment, suddenly pass from nothing to anything, without being able to do anything. The word Walking refers to the left-handed mode of play called Walking Bass often used in jazz piano that I used. It's finally a nod to Pink Floyd's album Dark Side of the Moon and Miles Davis' album Kind of Blue.

This piece is one of an album of my contemporary classical compositions. Yes, I too wince at offering you something saddled with this oxymoron--contemporary classical--but this phrase is now an irresistible, commercially recognized category defying any principled protest from the ranks of wounded musicological curmudgeons like me. The style here employs a tonal palette that celebrates the more or less common practice of composers from J. S. Bach to Ravel, Prokofiev, and the 20th century American songbook. You will see that I reject Arnold Schoenberg's assertion that by 1910 tonality had exhausted itself, and needed to be reinvented according to an aesthetics that dismiss our scales and harmonies as purely arbitrary human conventions with no basis in nature. On the contrary, I believe that we are endowed by our nature to respond emotionally to our traditional materials of music in the same way as nature equips us to respond to the taste of food and drink. We differ in our taste for savory, sweet, and sour, but it is wrong to say that our very capacity to taste is a merely cultural convention. There is biology, and then physics too! By the same standard, it can't be true that one person's taste for arsenic is as valid as another's taste for beer or kumquats. The major triad is a force of nature, like the sun, wind, and rain! I also like big fat juicy 13 chords, and contrapuntal weaving of melody! I believe the purpose of music is to sway us emotionally, and if it can uplift us too, so much the better! While I am not ashamed to write a bare triad, unadorned by chromatic alterations (much less by clusters of chord collisions) I have nevertheless employed much complicated harmony. Moreover, some passages are written in a spiky harmony that might be analyzed as bitonal, as at the meno mosso section, beginning at measure 112, where the mood I wanted to set inspired me to write the theme in C minor while the left hand climbs up from the bottom of the keyboard in a widely spaced, D-flat 13 arpeggio. I have composed these pieces with the skills of intermediate to early-advanced pianists in mind. This piece demands the ability to play some counterpoint between two voices in one hand. There is a section that requires one to play moderately fast octaves, but nothing as difficult as the G minor Prelude of Chopin (to say nothing of his harrowing octave Etude from Opus 25!) While there are many polyrhythmic passages, none is more complicated than two-against-three notes. All said, there is nothing here to make your hands (or, I dare say, your ears) bleed. The performing time is around nine minutes and a breath or three. For this, Laloy arranged selected poetry by Paul Verlaine into three tableaux, replacing an earlier (unstarted) Debussyan project with Charles Morice entitled Crimen amoris. During his last productive summer of 1915, Debussy set a sequence from the start of the first tableau, ‘Les Masques’, involving stanzas 1 and 3 of the opening song for Mezzetin in Verlaine’s comedy Les Uns et les autres. The action is set in a park à la Watteau late one summer afternoon as Mezzetin attempts to entertain a group of nonchalant masqueraders with only the aid of his voice and a mandolin..This appears to have been prefaced by a slower, elegiac introduction reminiscent of the opening of the comtemporary Cello Sonata and it leads to a danced minuet by the masqued dancers which has clear echoes of the piano piece L’Isle Joyeuse (1904). Following Laloy’s scenario, the mas-queraders then sing extracts from Verlaine’s ‘A la promenade’ (from Fêtes galantes itself). The minuet returns at greater length before being cut short by a chilly gust of wind, after which the park returns to its orginal state (and music) as though nothing had really happened.

Whiskers thinks to himself about all that fear and chaos he felt earlier that was all for nothing, he is very relieved to find out that the scary creature he was so scared about was just another squirrel.Whiskers doesn’t have many other friends so he’s happy to find someone else in these woods to become friends with. The scary abandoned house that they’re in seems to fade away now that he feels comfortable with this other squirrel. What an adventure it has been so far, from finding this abandoned house to running for his life to making a new friend. I wonder what her name is?
