I thought that my friends were smarter than they were. I felt invincible. I made many foolish mistakes during those years. About that time, my family was preparing to move from Oregon to Utah. I remember my mother talking with me and saying that I could start over again. We would be in a new place with new people. No one would know me. I could be the person I truly wanted to be. I thought about this a lot, and when we finally made the move I had decided what kind of person I really wanted to be. In fact, I felt bad for being the wrong kind of person and hurting other people physically and spiritually. I eventually felt so bad about my mistakes that I decided that I would write or call the people I had hurt and apologize to them. Over the period of a year I was able to find, call and apologize to each of them. To my great surprise none of them were still angry with me. I was forgiven. That was a great feeling. This day will be forever what you choose. Once you leave this life you won't be able to return and right any wrongs that you have committed. So when you make a mistake, choose to make it right today so that this day, this day of good choosing will be what will last forever. Never let yourself do something that you know inside is wrong. If your friends are trying to talk you into doing something you know is wrong, don't just sit there and listen to them. Get up and leave the room, or the party, or the situation. Be true. Be the one. Be the son or daughter of God. Do what He would do.

This tune was written in 1933 by Jerome Kern with words by Otto Harbach for the musical 'Robera'. It has been recorded by so many great artists but perhaps most famously by 'The Platters'. I have arranged it for piano in the key of F which and then modulated into Ab second time round. It has further key changes within the tune during the bridge. I have reharmonised it significantly to give it a jazz feel. I have given it a semi-quaver/sixteenth note feel rather than a swing beat which I felt suited it as a ballad.Please note it is a piano solo and doesn't include the bass line that is on my YouTube recording. I write all my arrangements as piano solos first so it sounds perfect as such. I don't include pedal markings, fingerings or dynamics and prefer to leave this to the discretion of the individual pianist as you will get no two piano teachers to agree on these issues.It's a wonderful tune and I hope you have as much fun playing my arrangement as I had writing it.

When Do I Want You Most is a piano solo arrangement of the 1897 hit pop song by Carrie Jacobs-Bond, which was originally a ballad for voice and piano. The descending pattern in the first bar of the melody reminded me of the opening of a famous Bach minuet, so I turned this pop ballad into a minuet. I reharmonized the melody more in the style of Bach, and wrote an extended intro, bridges, and Coda to tie the melody quotes together. A graceful piece in 2 part writing (single notes in each hand). 3 page score; 2:30 minutes This piece is also found in my book, Carrie Jacobs-Bond, Popular Songs 1900-1925, a collection of 51 of her songs I have arranged for piano solo, which is also available on this site.

This year, I am continuing to arrange songs that I consider to be important. In order to fit my criteria for arranging, I look for pieces that have stood the test of time, are uplifting, and can be used in many different situations. This one is a favourite of my Mom's so it went on my "To Do list" quite a while ago.
I decided to dedicate it to my Mom and Dad, for giving into my pleadings for music lessons and supporting me all these years.
The arrangement is written for an advanced player because the left hand can be quite challenging. There are many giant leaps and arpeggios all over the piano, including some challenging chord changes and full chords in the right hand. The piece starts in E flat major, but transitions to a F major finish. Each repetition of the melody is changed slightly--there is a challenging section near the end which brings out the melody in a thunderous full arrangement which is really fun to play. Rather than bringing everything to a crashing end though, I moved the melody into a sweet treble that signals a quiet, peaceful ending.

(Luther published the Ninety-five Theses in 1517 and was excommunicated in 1521.) Ein Feste Burg was translated into English by Miles Coverdale in 1539 with the title, Oure God is a defence and towre. The English text most familiar to me was translated by Francis Hedge in 1853. ♫ Luther believed in the power of music. In 1558 in the Forward to Georg Rhau's Symphoniae he wrote “I truly desire that all Christians would love and regard as worthy the lovely gift of music, which is a precious, worthy, and costly treasure given to mankind by God. … next to the Word of God, the noble art of music is the greatest treasure in the world. It controls our thoughts, minds, hearts, and spirits.... Our dear fathers and prophets did not desire without reason that music be always used in the churches. Hence, we have so many songs and psalms. It came to me at 3am yesterday and I went into my studio to notate it. It's a dreamy, soothing and sometimes soaring piece that reminded me of the octopus from the amazing documentary My Octopus Teacher. Part 1 is possibly more beginner intermediate, and I think some of the parts can be played as individual solos. I've included a link to the youtube demo on the score with an above hands view and a light up keyboard so that students can follow the score and listen.My husband and children loved this piece when they heard it, so I'm excited to have it published for others to learn and play. Part 3 was an idea from a piece I improvized in the Tottenham Court tube station a few years ago (yes, there was a piano in the tube station, and there should be a piano in every tube station as far as I'm concerned :) The theme I played that day never left me and it seemed to fit here. I wrote an expanded version of part 3 called Flight in D major that I hope to include on my website singplaystudios.com and here in a few weeks, so if you like part 3, I hope you'll check that piece out too. I plan to include this work in my 20 Beautiful Piano Solos book 3 (please find the first two books and many other repertoire and ear training books on Amazon). Thank you for considering learning this piece. Thomas Helmore, an Anglican priest, published the melody VENI EMMANUEL in a group of plainsong. Some of you may know that there are numerous benefits to playing music for your baby both in utero and after birth, and one aim of these lullabies is to enhance your and your baby’s special journey through a shared, intimate musical experience.These lullabies can be played by anyone with some basic piano or guitar skills. They came about at the request of some of my adult piano students, particularly pregnant mothers, new mothers, grandmothers, and grandfathers seeking something easy to play, preferably with chord symbols, for their newborns and young children.And so, these seven lullabies came into being. They are simple to play. Some of you may choose to use the chord symbols to create the chords on the piano or guitar rather than the notated accompaniment and add the tune while playing to your little ones. Others may prefer to use the full accompaniment. Elder siblings, significant others, family friends, and relatives also enjoy playing and sharing these songs.I hope you enjoy playing and singing them and that they will become enduring memories of these special times in your shared lives.
