Some of the pieces are solo piano and others feature duets with Mitch Iimori on English horn, oboe, and guitar (but not all at the same time!). The two musicians are obviously exceptionally comfortable and in tune with each other, and the results can be stunning. Very classical in scope and structure, the music is reflective of the natural surroundings of Ms Stevens’ home in the Colombia Gorge region of northern Oregon. The first eight of the fourteen tracks make up the Seasons Suite, a group of lyrical compositions inspired by the various times of year in a remote area of eastern Oregon. The other six pieces also have themes of nature and serenity.The Seasons Suite begins with Colors Change, obviously about the transition of summer into fall, but also about the concept of change as we grow. Reflective and subdued, the interplay between Stevens’ piano and Iimori’s oboe is effortless and flowing. Autumn Wind picks up the pace a bit, but continues the easy flow, bringing images of leaves swirling in the ceaseless wind of that area. Signs of Winter is a bit darker and more mysterious. Iimori is a big fan of Paul McCandless, and that musician’s influence is very strongly heard in these first three pieces - a very good thing!In Clouds, Iimori switches from oboe to English horn. This duet with the piano is a dramatic musical depiction of the gathering clouds and anticipation of a coming thunder storm. I really like it a lot! Snow is tranquility set to music. Sparrow’s Song brings us to the beginnings of spring - the freshness in the air, and the joyful songs of birds in the yard. July reflects the laziness of a hot summer day. Season’s Reprise brings together the themes from the various seasons, creating a lovely closing to the Suite. On Summit, Iimori trades his woodwinds for guitar in a gentle, sweeping duet with the piano. Waning Star is a gorgeous piano solo that has a peaceful grace and quiet serenity - a favorite. Reach For the Stars is a piano solo that has an uplifting sense of moving forward and reaching out. Dawn closes the CD with a warm and soothing confection. The piano is accompanied by light percussion, bass, and washes of synth strings. Full of hope and optimism without being sugarcoated, this piece is spellbinding in its gentle way.

In my years as Assistant Conductor and Pianist for the National Choir in El Salvador, I enjoyed working and performing works like this one. I wrote this piece with tho main ideas in mind: first, to create with easy harmonies that could appeal to anybody and second to be able to create a work that can be performed in concert halls. Conductors and Choristers will find interesting (and challenging) rhythmic patterns that give freshness to the work and invites listeners to enjoy the music. Text is from the Bible. The work could be performed at churches and concert halls. The work is scored for SSAATTBB, Piano, and String Orchestra. This is the full score. Parts are sold separately. La obra está escrita para coro mixto, piano y pequeña orquesta de cuerdas. En su sección inicial la obra presenta un patrón rÃtmico no convencional (métrica de 5/8) que de vez en cuando se intercala con métricas más tradicionales. La sección media es introducida por las cuerdas que de forma misteriosa nos introduce a una atmósfera de mayor contemplación. para luego regresar a la parte rÃtmica y recapitular el tema melódico inicial. El compositor escribe: En mis años como Pianista y director asistente del Coro Nacional de El Salvador disfruté mucho montar obras como la que usted disfrutará esta noche. Lo cierto es que el compositor ha querido buscar una obra que sea accesible y que tenga a la vez un carácter único, como las grandes maravillas de nuestro planeta y la naturaleza. Published by Juan Carlos Guerra Gonzalez (A0.1101275). 2 pianos Study Score of Tapayawi The following description is from the full score: Tapayawi - Concerto for Piano and Strings Orchestra in 3 movements.Estimated performance time: 19'45 Tapayawi†comes from Nahuatl and means “rain constantly.†Each one of the movements portrays a scene with rain in different environments. The work has 3 short movements and is dedicated to Dr. Esteban Barquero, a conductor and dear friend from Costa Rica. The first movement “Bajo la lluvia†(Under the Rain) represents the juvenile experience of doing different activities under the rain like playing, running, and dancing. I have memorable memories of my childhood under the intense rain. The experience of being in the rain can be funny or stressful depending on your perspective. The music pretends to be ambiguous, presenting the theme in different tonal centers and moving between different intensities until fading in the rain.“Rocio†(Dew) is the second movement of the piece. The slow music pretends to evoke a relaxing morning in the countryside enjoying the view of the dew on the green plains. The delicacy of the piano in combination with the warmth of the strings will help to create a relaxing experience for the listener. This movement is like an oasis to the noise of our daily lives.The third movement “Tempestad†(Tempest) is based on a Salvadoran Traditional Rhythm called “Xuc†As an interesting fact, while I was composing this movement I learned that Costa Rica had a traditional rhythm that is very similar called “Tambito.†The movement is full of energy, portraying a Thunderstorm. This movement is very demanding for the performers, especially for the soloist. La primera parte puede ser tocada por una persona, pero la segunda incluye percusión sobre la caja del piano y hacer sonar las cuerdas del mismo. Se recomienda que las dos personas del segundo movimiento sean percusionistas. Es una obra contemporánea basada en las sonoridades y compuesta a partir del orden de los colores del cuadro que aparece como portada de la obra. En tanto, que las vibraciones de onda de cada nota están directamente relacionadas con las que poseen cada uno de los colores de la pintura. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Who cares about the title? is an interesting piece for piano. It has two parts: the first one is to be played by just one person, but the second one should be played by two percussionist cause includes some percussive movements in the piano box and its strings. It is a contemporary music piece and it is based in the painting that you can see in the first page of the PDF. Because the vibrations of each note are directly connected to the vibrations of each color.
