It was written and sung by bass player Peter Cetera and released as a single on July 31, 1976. It is also the title of a Chicago compilation album released by Columbia Records (Columbia 38590) in 1983.The single topped the US charts on October 23, 1976, and stayed there for two weeks, making it the first number one hit for the group as well as hitting number one on the Easy Listening charts.[4] If You Leave Me Now was also Chicago's biggest hit internationally, topping the charts in other countries such as the UK, Australia, Ireland, Canada, and Netherlands. Level: Upper Intermediate - Early Advanced
This is an accessible arrangement of this great jazz standard - in a typical mainstream jazz piano style. On repeat there is a variation which is a quasi improvisation.
It fits nicely under the hand and includes phrasing, chord symbols, fingering and pedal suggestions.
The theme is mainly a 2-handed piano style - the chord voicings are spaced across both hands for a fuller sound.
In the variation, the bridge (bar 41), AA is more 'horn' style - lyrical right hand phrasing with left hand chordal accompaniment; often just the chord 'shell' - e.g. root and 7th. The B section here (bar 57) is 'stride' piano - left hand plays root/chord, right plays the melody harmonised in block chords.
Chord symbols are included to aid a better understanding of the harmony, and for pianists interested in embellishment or improvisation.
Designed to be a pleasure to play, this would be ideal as a recital or examination piece - or simply for leisure

Published by Philip Le Bas (A0.1127867). Incidental music composed for piano in four parts by Philip Le Bas to accompany the Japanese folk tale (ghost story) Yuki-Onna (Snow Woman). This work developed out of a cross-cultural project initiated at Morley College, London, in early 2019, aiming to create a melodrama for piano solo and spoken voice to be performed in northern Japan later in the year by young students of the piano. It is based on the ghost-story above, which is widely known in Japan. The tale was transcribed and published by Lafcadio Hearn (Koizumi Yakumo) in 1904 as part of his book “Kwaidan: Stories and Studies of Strange Thingsâ€, a collection that has been highly influential in expressing popular Japanese culture over the past century. Synopsis of the tale of Yuki-Onna: Two wood-cutters, Mosaku and his apprentice Minokichi, encounter a terrible snow-storm and take shelter in an empty hut by a river. The storm gets worse and worse, but they both finally fall asleep. When Minokichi wakes, he sees a woman all in white bending over Mosaku breathing bright white smoke onto his face. She then approaches Minokichi. She is very beautiful, but her eyes make him afraid. After a while she says, “I intended to do the same to you as I did to the old man, but I feel pity for you because you are a pretty young man. If you ever tell anybody what you have seen, however, I will kill you too.†And she vanishes into the snow storm. It is then that Minokichi discovers Mosaku dead on the floor of the hut. Years later Minokichi meets a beautiful girl, who calls herself O-Yuki. He falls in love with her and they live together in his house, along with his mother, who fortunately takes a liking to her new “honourable daughter-in-law.†Over the years O-Yuki gives birth to ten children and the villagers all agree that she is a wonderful person. But she is somehow different from them, as she continues to look young and fresh, despite the passing years. Minokichi often thinks of telling O-Yuki about the events of years ago, and eventually, as he is gazing at her beauty one night, he can resist it no more. He begins to tell her about the snow storm and the terrifying snow-woman. To his horror O-Yuki becomes more and more angry, and she finally says: “It was me, it was me,… and I said I would kill you if you ever told anyone! But for these children asleep here, I would do so this very moment! You had better take very good care of them; for if ever they have reason to complain of you, I will treat you as you deserve!†As she screams at him her voice becomes thin, like the crying of the wind, and she melts into a bright white mist spiraling into the roof-beams. At that moment it starts to snow, but O-Yuki is never seen again.

I wasn't expecting this one to take as much work as it did, but I'm happy with it. The second movement of my first sonata is complete! I'll admit the trio section is a bit more of a scherzo - I was looking at Beethoven's Sonatas and realized he commonly wrote scherzos after his minuets (or similar compositions). I probably should have titled it that way but, oh well. I'm self-titling this as The Empress Minuet because it reminds me of a gig I did where I played for a huge ball at The Fairmont at The Empress in Victoria, BC. This ball was Jane Austen themed, so everyone was dressed in costumes and danced to Minuets and more - all played by a live String Quartet. I was hired to play piano during the breaks and dinner, so I had to play music from the classical period and it was so much fun :) especially since most of my favorite music of all time was composed in that era of history! This took me longer to write than expected, but that's ok. I really wanted to get the feel right. Sounds I'm trying to get: royalty/nobility, and a balance between strength, beauty, and dignity, like our late Queen Elizabeth. I hope you like it. Thank you, Gabe.

Have you ever had a dog that was a special, loyal friend? Well, Buster was a black and white pomeranian that will always have a special spot in my family's hearts. He loved to play football with the kids, and he loved to take walks with me. After we had to put him to sleep, I woke up around 1:00 a.m. one morning and wrote this song in memory of Buster. Buster's Walk is a cheerful little piece in 3/4 time, full of rich chords and a haunting melody. It is in the key of F Major, includes some grace notes, arpeggiated chords, lots of helpful fingering, and resembles music from the early 1900's. (I always picture Charlie Chaplin). This makes a great recital piece, or part of your Assisted Living entertainment repertoire.
