Handel's Arrival from the Queen of Sheba come from Solomon (HWV 67), an oratorio by George Frideric Handel; arranged for Clarinet Quintet, plus extra parts if you need them!The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba, sinfonia for two oboes and strings by George Frideric Handel that premiered in London on March 17, 1749, as the first scene of Act III in the oratorio Solomon. One of the last of Handel’s many oratorios, Solomon is rarely performed in its entirety, but Handel’s bright and lively The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba interlude is a widely appreciated processional set piece. It often was (and it continues to be) played during wedding ceremonies. A noted public performance of the piece occurred during the opening ceremonies of the London 2012 Olympic Games.Its libretto is based on the biblical stories of wise king Solomon and is attributed to Newburgh Hamilton. James Haynor #3885545. Published by James Haynor (A0.782237). William Byrd (birth date variously given as c.1539/40 or 1543 – 4 July 1623), was an English composer of the Renaissance. He wrote in many of the forms current in England at the time, including various types of sacred and secular polyphony, keyboard (the so-called Virginalist school), and consort music. Although he produced sacred music for Anglican services, sometime during the 1570s he became a Roman Catholic and wrote Catholic sacred music later in his life. Libera me, Domine written for five voices is a great example of his work and transcribes well for clarinet quintet. ( Duration 6:30 )

He was a priest in Italy (possibly Verona or Ferrara) and lived from about 1470 to 1521. This song Dal lecto me levava appears to have been one of the first of its kind to signal the move from the traditional frottole (which had mainly a homophonic movement, and often had just a single voice with instruments) into the more familar madrigal style, where all the lines were sung and where the movement was more contrapuntal.

California Dreamin' isa classic song from the mid 1960s folk-rock era written by John Phillips and Michelle Phillips and was firstrecorded by Barry McGuire. However, the best known version is by The Mamas & the Papas, who sang backup on theoriginal version and released as a single in 1965. Thelyrics of the song express the narrator's longing for the warmth of Los Angeles during a cold winterin New York City. It was certifiedas a Gold Record (single) by the RIAA in June 1966 and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2001. This arrangement is for SSSSAB or SSSSSB Clarinet Ensemble. The son of a tanner, John Wilbye was born at Brome, Suffolk. Wilbye is probably the most famous of all the English madrigalists; his pieces have long been favourites and are often included in modern collections. His madrigals include Weep, weep mine eyes, Weep, O mine eyes and Draw on, sweet night. He also wrote the poem, Love not me for comely grace. His style is characterized by delicate writing for the voice, acute sensitivity to the text and the use of “false relations between the major and minor modes.The text for this one goes:Ah! cannot sighs not tears, nor aught else move thee To pity me, who more than life do love thee?O cruel fates! see, now away she’s flying,And fly, alas! alas! and leave me dying.Farewell, most fair, farewell, yet more disdainful: Was never grief like mine, nor death more painful.No 30 from the Second Set of Madrigals, 1598. originally for SSATTB a capella. A transcription of Debussy’s Golliwog’s Cakewalk for Clarinet Sextet.At the time of its composition, Golliwog's were in fashion, due partly to the popularity at that time of the novels of Florence Kate Upton (golliwog is a later usage). They were stuffed black dolls with red pants, red bow ties and wild hair, somewhat reminiscent of the black-face minstrels of the time. This is a ragtime piece with its syncopations and banjo-like effects. The dynamic range is quite large and very effective. The B section of this dance is interrupted on several occasions by the love-death leitmotif of Richard Wagner’s opera Tristan und Isolde, marked avec une grande émotion (with great feeling). Each quotation is followed with banjo imitations. The cakewalk was a dance or a strut and the dancer with the most elaborate steps won a cake (took the cake). Need an anthem fast? Published by Stephen Davies (A0.1050184). Percy Graingers' interesting life and eccentricities are widely known, however he was a master of his art. Most musicians will be familiar with the Tonic-Solfa ( Do Re Me etc), without boring you too much, a 'moveable' Do is the tonic of any key, a 'Fixed Do' is always a C !! In this piece Grainger employs his own 'Immovable Do', a C that is constant throughout the piece, even though it's in F!!! Now this would cause difficulties for any wind group!!! Graingers' instructions for anyone playing the melody on the Harmonium & Organ .. these notes should be stuck fast with pencils, and thus held down to the very end of the piece... So my solution is to seamlessly dovetail the C between an Eb and a Bb Clarinet, so that the fixed Do is to all intents and purposes always sounding. Graingers subtitle to the piece was ' The Cyphering C', which according to Chambers dictionary Cyphering means:- ' In an Organ, continuous sounding of a note not played, due to a mechanical failure '! The more melodic parts are a joy to listen to, with an infectious original tune, weaving between all the players.

Then we move into “Lightly Row†following a short transition. This is harmonized and the bass clarinet plays an Alberti bass.
