About the piece Can't Help Falling in Love is a 1961 song recorded by American singer Elvis Presley for the album Blue Hawaii (1961). It was written by Hugo Peretti, Luigi Creatore, and George David Weiss and published by Gladys Music, Inc. (The melody is based on Plaisir d'amour, a popular French love song composed in 1784 by Jean-Paul-Égide Martini). The song was initially written for a woman as Can't Help Falling in Love with Him, which explains the first and third line ending on in and sin rather than words rhyming with you. Can't Help Falling in Love was featured in Presley's 1961 film Blue Hawaii. During the following four decades, it has been recorded by numerous other artists, including Bob Dylan on his 1973 album Dylan, Tom Smothers, Swedish pop group A-Teens, and the British reggae group UB40, whose 1993 version topped the U.S. and UK charts. Elvis Presley's version of the song topped the British charts in 1962, spending four weeks at no. 1. The single is certified Platinum by the RIAA, for US sales in excess of one million copies. In the United States, the song peaked at No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 behind Joey Dee and the Starliters' Peppermint Twist and went to No. 1 on the Adult Contemporary chart for six weeks.About the arrangement This arrangement was inspired by the Elvis Presley version in 1962 and also the Pentatonix version recorded in 2017. It has been arranged for choirs that like to perform off by heart as the verse and chorus harmony are the same with very slight additions. Published by Alexander Koller (A0.1035850). This is a four-part a cappella arrangement in the barbershop style (for male voices). The arrangement follows the Adele version more closely than the Bob Dylan version, but leaves out some of her stylizations. It should be fine for barbershop contests.There are already several barbershop arrangements of the song. My goal was to write one that is accessible for beginning barbershoppers, but still has some fun moments and a musical development that supports the story. I have tried to maintain the quiet and introspective mood of the original, while still giving you the opportunity for some musical contrasts.The back half (which you can't see in the preview) has the third verse as a lead solo and the fourth verse as a lead-tenor duet, with the other parts singing doo-doo accompaniment. The second bridge (the storms are raging) has a higher tessitura and musical intensity than the first one.The arrangement is for male voices. It should also work for a mixed quartet with a male bass. It was included on their 1982 album Toto IV, and released as a single on September 30, 1982. It reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart on February 5, 1983 (the band's only number one there), and number three on the UK Singles Chart the same month.The initial idea and words for the song came from David Paich. Jeff Porcaro explains the idea behind the song: a white boy is trying to write a song on Africa, but since he's never been there, he can only tell what he's seen on TV or remembers in the past.Paich said: At the beginning of the '80s I watched a late night documentary on TV about all the terrible death and suffering of the people in Africa. It both moved and appalled me, and the pictures just wouldn't leave my head. I tried to imagine how I'd feel about if I was there and what I'd do.In 2015, Paich explained the song is about a man's love of a continent, Africa, rather than just a personal romance. In 2018, Paich explained the song is about a person flying in to meet a lonely missionary. As a child, Paich attended a Catholic school. Several of the teachers had done missionary work in Africa, and this became the inspiration behind the line I bless the rains down in Africa.About the arrangementI have tried to keep as much of the original material used by Toto as possible, within the confines of a male voice choir arrangement. The arrangement is for TTBB and piano and can include sound effects made by the choir at the beginning to imitate rain and a thunderstorm. A bongo/djembe drum can be played through the choruses to add more of an African percussive feel. Published by charliebmusic (A0.865879). ‘Togetherness’ is a Soca Carnival hit from the 2007 Trinidad carnival, and was sung originally by Alison Hinds on her ‘Soca Queen’ album, with music and lyrics by Leroy Brathwaite, who happens to be Rhianna’s uncle.Suitable for Pride, a Holiday celebration or any show about community, the song contains powerful lyrics about unity, community and togetherness, as well as mentions of stopping the fighting and gun violence. The half time reggae in the middle 8 leads to a defiant unison section where the entire ensemble declares ‘They can’t be believe that we love one another’. This leads to a final explosion of joy. Especially infectious, this tune demands audience participation and choir movement of some kind.The song itself is relatively repetitive and builds in energy with every return of the main chorus. It is vocally demanding and high energy throughout, demanding some vocal stamina and knowledge of Trinidad pronunciation. It could also be an opportunity to learn about the history and practice of carnival across the world, both as celebration of individuality and also as fighting oppression.

This arrangement is for TTBB a cappella groups, and sits at an easy-intermediate difficulty for high school/collegiate groups. While there isn’t a vocal percussionist part in the score, it is recommended to perform this arrangement with one.This arrangement features the main soloist, who sings quite lyrically and seriously (satirical, of course) about the relatable experience of FaceTiming with their parents. The echoes in the original recording are included in the score for the soloist to sing, if they wish. Additionally, the piece is relatively easy to learn, with a very repetative chord progression. As the arranger, I imagine the background vocalists miming the various lyrics that the soloist sings when they aren't looking, only for them to appear 'normal' when the soloist turns back.
