Every day I was commuting from Skurup to Båstad and every day I was struck by Båstads almost continental beauty; I felt like I was in France. Cobble stone roads, houses with towers and that mountain ridge close to the ocean...One day on the train, I ran into three French girls on holiday.Patiently they listened to my ideas and kindly helped me translate the tempo markings to French. The piece begins with us falling to sleep. The marimbas rocks us slowly In Dream.After sudden movements in the vibraphone we are happily strolling on the cobble stones, sun shining and children riding their bikes across the streets not noticing the rocky ride.Bells chime in the distance and the world – or the dream – vanish. As sudden as it started it is gone.The dissonance of the beginning is now gone and our sleep is peaceful and calm - or is it..? Originally a solo piece for Marimba dedicated to Kasper Grøn.Thanks to Camille, Carole, Raphaëlle for the help with the French.

This composition is a Bolero in 12/8. It begins with the initial rhythm that is played throughout the piece. The piece begins at ppp and increases in volume as each instrument plays the melody section. As each instrument enters, it forms a round of the same melody. The bridge begins with the continuing rhythm with each instrument adding their own note with the same rhythm until the complete quartet is playing the same rhythm in a chord. The bridge leads to the climax section where the initial rhythm continues with the third instrument imitates a tympani while the upper two instruments play the melody in harmony at fff volume. This composition shows how triads and quad chords work as melody. The prelude of this composition is a slow 4/4 pop feel before it moves into the main body of the song, a 12/8 blues motif. The quad chord bridge moves into a different melody with the 12/8 signature. The second bridge is two measures reminiscent of the opening slow section before it goes into a musical accented war between the instruments. The song, once again, moves into the remembrance of the slow 4 section remaining in the 12/8 time. A three measure battle returns back to the original 12/8 section. Composed 2010, revised 2014. One of a series of fourteen accompaniments to texts published between 1886-1899. Text: ‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol’, Oscar Wilde (1854-1900). For narrator (amplified if necessary), flutes (and/or tenor/bass recorders), clarinets, muted strings, percussion. Programme note: ‘The Ballad of Reading Gaol’ was written by Oscar Wilde in France on release from Reading Gaol in 1897 after being sentenced to two years hard labour. During his imprisonment Charles Thomas Wooldridge, who had been convicted of murdering his wife, was hanged. The poem was published in 1898 under the name C.3.3., which stood for cell block C, landing 3, cell 3. The text is a mixture of the first and second versions of Wilde’s poem.

This composition begins with a 12/8 rock tempo. Although it is written in C, the composition is begins in D Minor. The Marimba keeps the 12/8 going while the other three become punctuations. The punctuation continues while the Glockenspiel plays the melody. At measure 15 the song moves into a 6/8 feel. At measure 34 the song returns to the original 12/8 feel. The composition then splits to where the Vibraphone takes on harmony in the 12/8 feel while the Glockenspiel and Xylophone take on a 6/8 countermelody. A short bridge is created by stacking the other 2 on top of the Vibraphone and Marimba 12/8 feel. Then it splits again to where the Xylophone stays with the Vibraphone and Marimba pattern and the Glockenspiel goes off on it's own. During this time the Glockenspiel folds in the 6/8 melody, creating a pleasant conflict. The song D.C.'s to the original 12/8 content.
