Matthew Kimbley, when arranging this popular Christmas carol, chose to do that very thing. Add a marimba, vibraphone, chimes, wind chimes, temple blocks, two triangles, sleigh bells, claves, and bass drum, and you have an exciting arrangement of Carol of the Bells for ten-player percussion ensemble.This piece is about three and a half minutes long, and is perfect for school functions and Christmas events. This piece can technically be played by as few as five percussionists, although it is intended for ten. It is an exciting start or finish to any concert, and is great for students and professionals alike. It is written so that it can be played at nearly any speed, so it can be adjusted based on how advanced the ensemble is.This piece is fun for the audience as well as the performers!This includes all individual parts. No conductor score is included.

Entirely dedicated to Mimi the Stray Queen Cat, that adopted me and my Wife for her Family. The score was written on Finale. The sound file was performed with samplers from Garritan and conceived as an audio support for the presentation of the score. This is the first time that this version is published. Published by J Garratt Composer (A0.1029072). 'The Hammer & Anvil' is the piece that adorns the balustrade of the band stand in Parade Gardens, Bath, UK. The band stand was forged by the National Heritage Ironwork Group as a gift to the city during their 2018 'BathIron' festival. The piece is written for 2 treble clef parts and a bass clef part and can be performed by any group of instruments. For the original performance it was performed on 2 Bb Clarinets and a Bass Clarinet.About the piece:'The Hammer & Anvil' is derived from the melody of an English folk song about a blacksmith (ironworker) which has been adapted and augmented to be used as a melodic foundation throughout the piece, similar to an isorhythm in medieval compositions. The piece is in two sections: the A section where the folk melody is confined to the bass and the B section where the melody is split between all three parts. A repeated rhythmic motif, representative of an ironworker using his hammer and anvil, is used to accompany and/or decorate this melody.

Grim (A0.939392). Another Place is a marimba quartet on two instruments with some accessory items like a mounted bass drum, cymbal, and wind chimes. The work is about 10.5 minutes long, and holds three distinct movements that begin with solemn rolls that slowly become more regimented and rhythmic. The second movement raises the bar and becomes very rhythmic and syncopated with a Reich-like approach of melody vs interlocking harmony. This climax brings a high dynamic level to the forefront of the instruments with interlocking impact points being contrasted to unison hits. The third movement takes this original melody and harmony to the next level by using changing time signatures and motivic ideas to maximize the powerful ending. Throughout there is a deep sense of color and texture that can be maximized by the ensemble in new and exciting ways with each performance. This has plenty of ink, but also leaves a lot to interpret and bring the ensemble’s voice forward. I hope you enjoy! This work won the Audience Award in the Rocky Mountain Music Composition Contest in 2022 as well as Second Prize overall. These international awards were judged by a panel of seven judges from around the world, but with the competition based out of Toronto, Canada.
