A soothing and reflective fingerstyle classical guitar solo by Bradley Powell (The Candlelight Guitarist), from his album Beatitude Bridge. It is a moderate tempo, intermediate classical guitar level piece (though perhaps sounding more advanced). With classical style chord voicings in a modern folk-jazz chord progression. It switches between the keys of E major and E minor, then the bridge passes through E, D, and C major keys, returning to E minor/major. This sheet music is in Standard notation... ABOUT the composer: Brad Powell (aka The Candlelight Guitarist) began guitar at age ten, inspired by The Beatles. At 15, he became a protégé of jazz guitarist Joe Pass, and later studied classical guitar under Vincent Macaluso, and at California State University, Northridge under Ronald Purcell, with a master class under Andrés Segovia. Brad was featured performing Gerald Wilson's Sonata for Guitar and Orchestra at the Hollywood Bowl, with the composer conducting. Brad was mentored in composition by David Rose (composer for Little House on the Prairie). Brad has composed music for TV, including Hill Street Blues and The 'A' Team, working with Mike Post. While he is best known for his guitar compositions, he also composed music for a wide range of genres, including opera, orchestra, string quartet, piano, voice, and ballet. His ballet score Cendrillon(Cinderella) received over one hundred performances. Sor's works for guitar range from pieces for beginning players to advanced players such as Variations on a Theme of Mozart. Sor's contemporaries considered him to be the best guitarist in the world,[1] and his works for guitar have been widely played and reprinted since his death.[2] Although modern classical guitar players usually do, Sor rarely used his ring finger and refused the usage of nails when playing.[3]As Sor's works were published in various countries, his name was translated, leading to variations in the spelling. Born in Madrid, he studied with Miguel GarcÃa. In 1826, Aguado visited Paris, where he met and became friends with and for a while lived with Fernando Sor.[1] Sor's duo Les Deux Amis (The Two Friends) commemorated the friendship: one part is marked Sor and the other Aguado.Aguado's major work Escuela de Guitarra was a guitar tutor published in 1825.[1] As of 2011, it is still in print, with Tecla Editions releasing a reprint in 2005.[2] In the Escuela Aguado describes his use of fingernails on the right hand as well as his invention of a tripodison: a device that held the guitar and thus minimized the damping effect of the player's body on the guitar's back and sides.[3] Aguado's other works include Trois Rondos Brillants (Opus 2), Le Menuet Affandangado (Opus 15), Le Fandango Varie (Opus 16), as well as numerous waltzes, minuets, and other light pieces. Various articles in specialized journals and sites have cited the composer, such as the Flutist Quarterly (Circus Brasilis - The flute music of Sergio Roberto de Oliveira), Early Music America (Something New for Early Music), Andante.com (The heirs of Villa-Lobos), 21st Century Music, Musicabrasileira.org, etc. Sergio Roberto de Oliveira has frequently been invited to lecture at American universities, and has spoken at more than a dozen institutions including Princeton and Duke. In 2009 he was Artist-in-Residence at Duke University. In addition the USA and the UK, Oliveira's music has also been played in many countries, with invitations for concerts exclusively with his music in México, Italy and Holland (Amsterdam). The Spanish Magazine Sonograma has published 2 interviews with Sergio.Sergio is the founder and a member of the group of composers Prelúdio 21. The group is one of the most active worldwide. It holds a distinguished place in Brazilian contemporary music, having been active for 15 consecutive seasons, with a permanent series of monthly concerts since 2008. In 2011 the group released the CD String Quartets, with performances by the Quarteto Radamés Gnattali. Oliveira is also a member of the group of composers Vox Novus, based in New York.To commemorate 15 years of activity as a composer, Oliveira released a box set with 4 CDs, as well as a CD with composer Mark Hagerty, and produced the series QUINZE, with 13 concerts including his works, between July and October of 2012. More than 130 musicians, including 28 composers, participated of QUINZE (CDs and series).His discography includes 14 CDs as producer, 14 as composer, 22 as general producer, 2 as arranger and 2 as pianist. His catalog of compositions includes approximately 115 works for various ensembles, including Symphony Orchestra. Sergio Roberto de Oliveira is a member of the Latin Academy of the Arts and Science of Recording.He died from pancreatic cancer in 2017.
