More information about the CD: alberto.guitarra@gmail.comGioco is a five part piece: Allegro leggiero; tpo. giusto Triste e intenso; poco rubato Scherzando Adagio meditativo Allegro agitato The author wrote:Gioco, an Italian word meaning game, is the title of this guitar work composed in 1994.Gioco is a work of current aesthetic, atonal, built however on a structure as classic as that of a Sonata, of great conciseness and clarity and brief duration. It consists of five movements in which the former has a simple, school sonata shape, with two well-identifiable themes, one ethereal based on sets of bells and harmonics and another choppy, contrasting, in parallel ninth intervals, which are developed and subsequently reexposed at the end of the movement.The second movement is a slow time when the resonance of arpeggiated sounds is important. As will happen in the fourth half, the music conveys a sense of freedom, almost improvisation resulting from its unsympted writing and the irregularity of the measure. The third is a Scherzo in which humorous character is accentuated by the rapid descending and ascending glissandi. No less grotesque is the contrasting quote of Gaspar Sanz's Spaniard played in a singular way as will be seen in the interpretation, suddenly interrupted by the glissandi. The fourth is another slow movement in which resonances are also the center. Here you resort to obtaining a particular, harmonic sound similar to the sound of a gong, by placing paper clip on the three boards of the guitar. The fifth and final time is live movement in the form of a purr in which the different episodes are quotes from the themes appeared in the previous movements. The player says about this work: Work dated in 1994, virtuoso and contrasting, of resounding accessibility, not intending to reach the audience using easy resources but an admirable capacity for communication, Gioco is divided into five movements in which varied colours and textures occur and almost all the abundant classical and contemporary timbric resources of the guitar are exploited with intelligence, (controlled challenges, blows on the board, metallic vibration of a clip...), In this work one of the outstanding findings of its author is the alternative use in the Scherzando of his contemporary language and two recognizable literal quotations of the Aragonese Baroque guitarist Gaspar Sanz, which appear softly in an ironic and evocative loudness. Justino Losada wrote this review:Gioco, represents a continuous game of sonorities of very rich timbric nuances as well as an exacerbated game of frets (such as in its 3rd movement Scherzando), and abundant contemporary resources such as the microtonal vicinity of the detuned passages or the blows on the box for our interpreter to show of his skills, a task that although complicated he knows how to perform perfectly coming out of all difficulties. Rebullida's language is not simple, but the composer is clearly aware of the difficulties to reach a large audience, and to do so he polishes his language by seeking an exchange between modern and ancient sonorities in a continuous game creating a climate of warm and direct communication. An arrangement of two movements from Granados' very first published work, a set of tunes entitled 'Cuentas de la Juventud'.Here I have set tunes five and six consecutively as six on its own is very short and acts as a brief interlude between five and seven. Here it makes a nice coda to 'Viniendo de la Fuente' and leaves us to guess the meaning of its mysterious title: * * *I have transposed it to fitting keys for the guitar and both pieces flow quite nicely. They are relaxed and expressive and would make a nice contrast between lively pieces in a performance.

Joaquín Malats's Serenata Española was premiered at the Salon Érard in Barcelona on 22 September 1891,[1] and was published by Zozaya a year later. Despite what it may seem from the initial title on the cover of the Suite Impresiones de España, this work was never performed as a suite for orchestra. Originally conceived as a collection in which the Serenade was the second of the pieces, only this one was published in addition to the first one: Danza. Joaquim Malats performed these two compositions in numerous concerts as part of the Suite Impresiones de España,[2] however, he neither published them as a unitary corpus, nor did the ochestral version see the light. The suite was initially dedicated to the great writer Benito Pérez Galdós, who was also a personal friend of the composer. This edition aims to provide a new vision of the work by contrasting the first two arrangements that were made, by Tárrega and by his disciple Severino García Fortea, with the original piano source, paying special attention to include agogics, dynamics and phrasing arcs indications in the piano font and to the maintenance of the original structure of the work. Red Sunset starts off very mellow and delicate, then slowly transitions into an intense chord progression, with solos in between, meant to be a break before the climax, as well as after. After the second chorus, an enormous breakdown takes place, to end the piece!

We often live our lives hiding from ourselves, usually because of an artificial sense of fear, embarassment, shame or guilt that we may have acquired because of social pressures. This is why we many people have a mid-life crisis and suddenly change the way they have lived their lives into how they wished to live all along. This piece represents the unraveling of previously held ideals into one which is synchronous with the world around us, beginning with a vision reminding us of mortality, progressing through the difficulties and cognitive dissonances which occur when we must change our lives to find happiness. Kriya began originally as a tremolo etude on the 2nd and 3rd strings, but quickly evolved into a musical composition. Practicing Tremolo on strings other than the first develops control and discipline in the right hand, which was my original intention in writing it- but I felt as if the material that was generated required more and more variation and contrast- and quite quickly I realized that I had to complete it with the intention of performing it as a piece of music rather than simply a technical exercise.**This version is for 10-string guitar. There is a 6-string guitar version available also.

Albéniz wrote this music with the percussion of a guitar in mind. Like another famous Albéniz guitar transcription, Asturias (Leyenda), it fits very nicely on the classical guitar. It is fairly difficult with some quick position shifts and is worth putting time into. Its' sound is a mix between classical and flamenco guitar. This piece has been done by several classical guitarists like Christopher Parkening, and this is my take on it. It features two contrasting sections. The A section is harsh, percussive and very Spanish. The B section is a melodically driven change of pace, before it finishes in a repeat of the A section.

Pears Cyclopaedia makes this discerning tribute: ‘A Chopin melody, limpid, transparent, singing, can be recognised easily by anyone, but his style gradually developed into something more subtle, more satisfying than pure melody.’ The Andante spianato (spianato means 'smooth') was composed in 1834 as an introduction to the Grande polonaise brilliante. The quiet introductory section of the Andante, in 6/8, is rounded by a chordal trio and a more processional 3/4. A serene middle section adds contrast, floating through upper octaves in quintessential Chopin style.

Published by Rocco Di Pietro (A0.1291077). “Interrupted Dance†was written for the Guitarist Larry Marotta who I have worked with for many years.I felt comfortable giving Larry the difficult tasks of going back and forth between a simple childhood tunewith variations Mozart would have approved of.I contrasted that with daunting extended techniques from the old Avant -Garde.I did not want to get rid of any technique which would still be useful to me frommy old love of Modernism, but I wanted to use that as part of my current practiceof letting the past in, which has moved away from 1966.The dance was inspired by a little sculpture a friend of mine gave to me, which depicts abooby -trapped playground. It shows a little swing set surrounded by thorns anddaggers. There is a little teddy, who wants to ride the swing but never does,because he sees the bucket of blood.The little swing set is represented by the childhood tune in its various transformations.The work is simply dedicated to that friend. The work contains two endings.The guitarist traveling teddy navigates the playground in triumph in the first endingand individuates and rejects the playground in the second ending.Returning to the practice of life in maturity.RDP.

Published by DML (A0.1316579). Air On A G string is August Wilhelmj’s 1871 arrangement of the second movement of J. S. Bach’s Orchestral Suite No 3 in D major BWV 1068. The arrangement differs from the original in that the part of the first violins is transposed down so that the entire piece can be played on just the violin's lowest string (the G string, hence the name). In performance, that part is generally played by a single violin (instead of by the first violins as a group). This is however an arrangement of the original “Air†from the Orchestral Suite. Bach's third Orchestral Suite in D major, composed in the first half of the 18th century, has an Air as second movement. The music of the Air is written on four staves, for first and second violins, viola, and continuo. The interweaving melody lines of the high strings contrast with the pronounced rhythmic drive in the bass. I have followed this quite closely in the arrangement for guitar quartet in F major.

The rhythmic piece begins with a section of strummed chords that work harmonies off of varying the fingerings to a basic chord pattern. The progression includes some half barres on the first and third frets. A middle section slows the tempo down, and sets a contrasting mood with a melody that moves over the top of a step wise bass line. The piece energetically rerturns to the strumming section and ends in a scalar flourish with lots of slurs to set up the final chords.
