ISBN 9781619111653. 8.75x11.75 inches.Timeless Solos is a play on words. The solos in this volume contain no time signatures or bar lines. I did this because I wanted the solos to be very expressive in interpretation yet free-form in structure. The companion recording presents my interpretation of these works. You may interpret them differently and that is fine! All solos are in notation and tablature. When writing these solos I first envisioned the form as an extended cadenza. However, from my earlier trumpet playing days I recalled that, especially in the 19th century, a cadenza was a momentary break in a solo which gave the performer a chance to dazzle the audience with his or her virtuosity. These solos are not about that. Rather, they are a vehicle to give the guitarist an opportunity to move the listener with the performer's expressive ability. I also thought of these solos in the form of a chant. However, most chants are monophonic in form and these solos in various parts present a fairly lush harmonic structure. While the solos were written for a 7 string guitar, they may be played successfully on a 6 string guitar. Alternate notes for those found on the 7th string are shown in the tablature part. Also, the solo, Peace, is written in Dropped D tuning and makes little use of the 7th string pedal tones. The solos are contemplative in nature and provide ample opportunity for individual expression and interpretation. I hope you enjoy playing and performing these works.

This fourth booklet is dedicated to ensemble playing through five trios and three quartets of various styles (tango, ballad, rock, etc.) appropriate for the end of primary school with a few years of experience and the beginning of secondary school. Some pieces are written in a homorhythmic manner and can constitute an introduction to ensemble music, while others are rather polyrhythmic. They can constitute a first contact with the following techniques and effects: staccato, pizzicato, accent, louré, natural harmonic, percussion or crossed strings. This volume is therefore intended for guitarists who already know the notes in first position. Two pieces include a more advanced part with an introduction to playing in 5th position. These are short pieces that do not present technical challenges other than those allowing you to achieve the effects and play expressively.You will find in the scores indications of nuances, timbre, attack and fingerings which constitute suggestions for work and not prescriptions. Teachers and students are therefore invited to make interpretation choices different from those proposed or to try to convincingly render those already written.The pieces were composed or arranged by UQAM music education students as part of a course aimed at equipping musicians for teaching guitar in the school system. Ce sont des pièces courtes qui ne présentent pas de défis techniques outre ceux permettant de réaliser les effets et de jouer de manière expressive. Vous trouverez dans les partitions des indications de nuances, de timbre, d’attaque et de doigtés qui constituent des suggestions de travail et non des prescriptions. Ainsi, les enseignants et les élèves sont invités à faire des choix d’interprétation différents de ceux qui sont proposés ou à tenter de rendre de manière convaincante ceux déjà écrits.Les pièces ont été composées ou arrangées par des étudiants en enseignement de la musique de l’UQAM dans le cadre d’un cours qui vise à outiller les musiciens pour l’enseignement de la guitare dans le système scolaire. Here it makes a nice coda to 'Viniendo de la Fuente' and leaves us to guess the meaning of its mysterious title: * * *I have transposed it to fitting keys for the guitar and both pieces flow quite nicely. They are relaxed and expressive and would make a nice contrast between lively pieces in a performance.

It's not too hard - maybe Trinity Grade 3/4. You will be able to find a performance on YouTube.My scores are intentionally devoid of expressive and dynamic markings (even tempo indications). Dynamics and other markings are not only crude, but imply there is only one interpretation of the piece. There should be significant development of dynamics, tempo and colour within my pieces, but I leave this to the interpretation of the player.Notwithstanding the above, the fingerings are important. My pieces are 'guitaristic' in that certain notes need to be played at specific places on the fretboard in order to exploit resonances or harmonies only available when playing them there.

He was a pupil of Faure and at first fell, like many contemporary composers, under Debussy's spell. However, his ascetic and intellectual bents produced from the start a refinement of composition and orchestration, and development of melody, all his own. Later music, including the Concerto, shows his love of the rhythmic features of jazz, and thoughtful incorporation of the innovations of modern music – strong dissonance, atonality etc. Ravel wrote both music and lyrics for a number of songs including Trois Beaux Oiseaux du Paradis (Three Lovely Birds from Paradise - see below), composed in 1916 while he was posted in the French army during WW1, this at significant physical and mental cost (ref. Wikipedia).
