The bass drum solo imitates a cannon shot and the nice clarinet soli in the clarion register with a flute counter melody give the piece a soothing effect. Complete with an eight line score and parts for flute, oboe, clarinet 1,2&3, bass clarinet, alto sax 1&2, tenor sax, baritone sax, f horn 1&2, trumpet 1&2, trombone 1&2, baritone BC, tuba, bells and percussion.

Published by OTBM (A0.990609). Lieutenant Collin's Quickstep is one of approximately 20 marches (quicksteps) by C.S. Grafulla in the Library of Congress. It is from the Civil War era but may have been written before 1860. The original is a piano piece that is probably based on a brass band piece. An interesting feature is that the time signature starts out in six-eight and switches to two-four in the middle of the piece. It is, at most, a grade 3. Fun to play and listen to. Instrumentation of this edition is for modern concert band.

Published by The Beat Sellery (A0.971672). This piece was originally written for an ensemble of 18 students to give them something that would engage and/or challenge each player. I wanted to expose them to shifting meters and relied on a minimalist idea for building the groove that drives the piece. It is important to maintain a feeling of motion throughout. The percussion section will be kept busy moving between instruments, and they are featured in the middle-it should sound like magic sparkles. I added traditional instrumentation to this, and there is some writing more difficult than grade 3 (particularly in the oboe part since originally there was no flute). Still, I think it is a fun piece for the right group. The meter is mostly 5/8 with the occasional 6/8 or 4/8 thrown in. The recording available here is a real band with some real mistakes that hopefully don't get in the way too much. The download includes the full score and set of parts. Your percussionists are sure to enjoy trying out these cool sounds.Every person on a melodic instrument gets the melody at some point in the piece. I just liked the idea of someone starting to play the melody as people were getting ready for rehearsal and anyone else being able to join in! Plus, I thought it might make it easier to teach the style of the melody if you could do it as a full group.This piece was originally written for 5 percussionists. After finishing the piece I was asked to add in more percussion, a task which I was very excited to do! A Concert band or large ensemble arrangement with the Slash Guitar solo of this awesome song by Guns N' Roses as a versatile option that can be performed with or without the added rhythm section. It is transcribed from the Album version so has the extra section in the middle which allows a true to the original performance with the full guitar solo. The original key of Db does pose a challenge for band members which transposed down to C and the arrangement for sale was performed with great success this summer to 800 people for an event with great results. It was easier to have the Lead guitarist down tune their guitar making it easier to learn quickly as a band. Many arrangements simply put in a repeat using the same music but this is a full arrangement encompassing the original song as close as possible. The rhythm section is fully written out for those musicians that don't read chords which are also included for more advanced musicians. The solo Guitar part is in the audio but there are more in depth transcriptions available from online sheet music Guitar specialist websites that will be a more accurate version. Departures was written following and during a time when I witnessed a number of people leaving-moving away, taking a different path in life, or leaving this life altogether. A single, sighing motive unites all three sections of this piece. It is heard right away in the flutes, takes a yearning tone in the middle section, and returns wistfully at the end of the piece. As with every departure in life, one is left wondering what the arrival will be like. The first and last sections of the piece are in a moderate to slow 6/8 while the middle is in 4/4. There are brief solos for horn, alto sax, and oboe (cued in clarinet). The recording available here is a real band with some real mistakes that hopefully don't get in the way too much.
