The program note that appears in the original printed score is noted here:There is a wedding feast in progress in the village inn, with music, dancing, carousing. Mephistopheles and Faust pass by, and Mephistopheles induces Faust to enter and take part in the festivities. Mephistopheles snatches the fiddle from the hands of a lethargic fiddler and draws from it indescribably seductive and intoxicating strains. The amorous Faust whirls about with a full-blooded village beauty in a wild dance; they waltz in mad abandon out of the room, into the open, away into the woods. The sounds of the fiddle grow softer and softer, and the nightingale warbled his love-laden song. Mephisto Waltz No. 1 is paired with a work preceding it, Midnight Procession (Der Nächtliche Zug), however this piece is not as widely performed. Liszt later transcribed the waltz into a piano duet and a virtuosic solo piano work. Each of these versions were written around the same time, roughly 1859-62. The orchestral version also has an alternate ending, which is softer and fades away. This arrangement features both endings. This work was then followed by three more Mephisto Waltzes. No. 2 was also written as both an orchestral and piano work, while Nos. 3 and 4 were for piano only. I came up with this song by answering one simple question: “What do I really want to do with my music?” The answer came very quickly: “I want people to feel strong emotions of happiness when they listen to my music!” Soon after, I started composing a very simple outline of the piece.My biggest hope when you listen to this song is that it brings you much joy and happiness! I believe Optimism is a truly important view to have on life. Sometimes, you just have to look on the bright side! Unfortunately, there cannot always be happiness. If there was no sadness, you would not recognize or appreciate the happiness. There has to be opposition in order to feel anything. Without sadness and pain there would be no joy and happiness. That's why I wrote this song the way I did. In the beginning, it starts fairly happy and exciting! But then, sadness enters and even a bit of anger. It adds great contrast to the end which feels even more exciting and elated! I hope this song helps you feel optimistic, excited, and happy!

John Ivor Holland #1031902. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1452596). In the mid 1960s, Roy Castle had a series of variety shows on BBC Television and Arthur Wilkinson was his musical director. On one of the shows, the celebrity guest was ballet star Doreen Wells who asked if she could dance to music of the Beatles. It fell to Wilkinson to arrange some of the hit songs for use by a ballerina. He hit on the idea of Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suite as a model; it was so popular that further movements were added for an EP recording and the complete Beatlecracker Suite is the result. The EP was issued throughout the world and was to be followed by an album if it did well enough, but it appears there was none. The movements are:1. Miniature Overture (Help!)2. March (When I'm 64)3.
