It was released as the album's second single (following 'Better the Devil You Know') on 22 October 1990, written, arranged, and produced by the powerhouse team of Stock, Aitken and Waterman. Considered one of her best singles, the song charted well across the world - an accompanying music video was directed by visual artist Nick Egan, which paid homage to 1970s culture and figures. Since its release, Step Back in Time has been used in several media including an appearance in the 2013 British comic science fiction film The World's End. Here at last is my ’’Elegy sentimentale’’ for Concert Band, and an original composition.I hope it makes an excellent piece for amateur and professional bands alike; with some challenging and interesting woodwind and brass writing for all.I envisage the ’’Elegy’’ eventually making a good piece of film music, and in consequence any directors or producers looking for a movie theme; please feel free to contact me!Elegy Sentimenatle is a mournful & melancholic work, suited for performances on the concert platform.A Supreme Work of Art!The Elegy Sentimentale opens impressively. Keith Terrett plants a C deep in virgin soil; orchestrated brilliantly for bassoon, harp and delineated by pizzicato double basses this bass line is a tree of a forest; and we are at once held by the strength of the roots. The tonality is immediately clear, and there is a grand feeling of space and power in the wide layout of the score. A lone solo clarinet high in the tessitura accompanied by a solo cello with a counter subject state the opening eight bar theme which embodies the seeds of two ideas, which supplies the generating force for the slightly agitated Piu Mosso which follows. The counter subject given by the solo cello at the beginning is now reiterated by the plaintive voice of a solo oboe and a third motif makes an appearance in the solo clarinet; oboe and clarinet duet beautifully over arpeggiated rhythmic impulses in the harp. A new subject of an accompanying nature, derived from all the material thus far presented now comes off at a tangent on the strings cascading downwards and accompanying woodwind who, play the chief melodic subject while horns cry in anguish. This first section is then repeated; I found the whole experience spiritual, detached and wondering, intensified by the breath-taking stillness. Mr Terrett in the middle section that follows now uses his full orchestral forces; after a key change the emotional charge that follows is cataclysmic in its cry of anguish; the main theme is stated in a full dress orchestral tutti, which is then repeated. The music ebbs and flows with slight variations in the woodwind recalling the main ideas; at the very end high strings bring consolation and finally peace. Keith Terrett shows an admirable command of orchestration and melodic construction and combines these qualities with rare imagination and insight.Gerald Manning

Composed in honor of women's history month, First Symphony for Beginning Band is a unique piece that depicts four important women throughout our history. Movement 1 depicts the harrowing tale of Sojourner Truth's escape from slavery. She went on to become one of the most influential abolitionists in history- both an icon for racial justice and women's rights.The second movement depicts the innocence of a young Malala, who stood up against the Taliban's exclusion of women's rights to education. At the age of 15, she was shot in the head three times on a school bus as she was on her way home. Miraculously, she survived and went on to win a Nobel Peace Prize (she is the youngest person to ever earn this prestigious award. Still alive today, Malala is currently studying at Oxford and runs the Malala Fund, which advocates for quality education for all girls. Movement 3 captures the energy, cunning and adventurous nature of Amelia Earhart. She was the first woman to fly the Atlantic, and her disappearance is one of the greatest mysteries of our time. Rehearsal D represents her flight over the open seas and Rehearsal E depicts the unresolved tragedy of her disappearance. Finally, the 4th movement honors the only person to win Nobel Prizes in two separate sciences, Marie Curie. Her scientific, methodical approach to exploration and discovery are depicted here via the fragmented eighth note motifs and methodical percussion writing. I hope your students will enjoy the catchy hooks and melodies, and I hope that this piece can serve as a valuable reminder of the infinite capacity of the human spirit. I am incredibly excited to offer this selection to you in a effort to diversify concert band music repertoire for younger player that avoids using typical key signatures, but does not veer too far away from standard practices. It is suggested that players practice playing the first few notes of the concert Bâ™ scale (Bâ™, C, D, Eâ™), then swapping out concert Bâ™ for concert A. Make sure measures 1-3 are accurately learned by the wind players before learning the rest of the piece. In measure 39, there is a glissando, or “fall†that might be seen in jazz music. (The playback does not support accurate sounds for this effect.) A prolific composer, instrumentalist, teacher and conductor, Johnson led a varied and successful career in an era in U.S. history that was not inviting to black professionals. His musical interests ranged from the contemporary works of Johann Strauss Jr. to traditional, popular dances.The cotillion is a French country dance that was popular in Europe and America in the 18th century. It was originally danced by four couples in square formation and was an important influence in the development of the square dance in the United States. Francis Johnson composed two sets of six piano accompaniments for this dance. The original 1818 publication even included movement instructions for the eight dancers. The short and charming melodies that he composed are a fitting example of popular dance music of the time.This transcription may be performed as a piano solo, with the piano as a non-solistic instrument within the ensemble or without piano at all. If it is to be a piano solo, the other instruments should not play the passages marked “opt. tacet (optional tacet). If the piano will not be treated soloistically, the conductor can have some or all of the “opt. tacet passages played at their discretion. The Storms of Time was commissioned by a high school band in Ohio as a memorial to a band member who died in a traffic accident. Although the piece is built on motivic development and has no specific program, the solo alto sax represents the dedicatee, who played that instrument, and the other soloists represent her friends, who express their sense of first loss, then resignation and acceptance after her voice suddenly falls silent near the end.The piece is in ternary form: slow-fast-slow. Slow sections are lyrical and thinly scored, fast section very rhythmic with much mixed irregular meter. Several exposed solos for flute, clarinet, bassoon, and especially alto sax, plus short ones for oboe and trumpet.The price includes license to make as many copies of each part as necessary.Grade 4+ - Duration 6:45

This three movement composition is a musical portrait of Delaware up until its being the first state to ratify the constitution. It was composed for the University of Delaware Wind Ensemble, Dr. Robert J. Steckfuss, conductor as a result of a commission from the Xi Mu Chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. The work is in three movements: I. Stewards of the Land - This movement is a tribute to the Lenni Lenape Indians. It uses a melody from a Lenape Indian song that is first stated in the English Horn. This melody is then developed through adding counterpoint, harmony, orchestration, motivic variation, rhythmic and tempo changes, and the addition of original material. II. Settlement and Conflict - This movement reflects the European settlement of Delaware and the conflict with the indians. It begins with slow section representing serenity. A faster section using a melody from a Dutch dans represents the first European settlement in Delaware. A minor version of the dans combined with fragments of the Lenape Indian song from the first movement represents the conflict. This is followed by a return to the serenity section. A final fast section introduces a setting of the Swedish melody from Amerikabrev, representing the first permanent settlement in Delaware by Sweden. The movement ends with a section of Rule Britannia representing the colony falling under British rule. III. Forging A Nation - This movement portrays events leading towards being the first state to ratify the constitution. The movement begins with a section reflecting the anxious times of declaring independence, fighting for freedom, and forging a new government. The second section builds in confidence. After a slower section of reflection, the movement ends triumphantly in celebration of a new country.

Born in Taggia, Liguria, he studied with Niccolò Piccinni and Antonio Sacchini, and worked mainly in London, Venice and Rome.He wrote more than 80 operas, both opera seria and opera buffa, although he concentrated on church music, especially oratorios, during his last years. Anfossi died in Rome in 1797.As an operatic composer, Anfossi remained forgotten for a long time, despite his great popularity with his contemporaries, because his works were overshadowed by those of Salieri, Rossini and Mozart. Nevertheless, Johann Wolfgang von Goethe staged Anfossi's farsetta La maga Circe (Circe, the Sorceress) in his role as the theatre director of Weimar. He adapted the libretto with Christian August Vulpius and also made plans for a continuation, which never came to bear.Only in the last 20 years has Anfossi's work been appreciated anew, through diverse productions such as Giuseppe riconosciuto. His work was featured at the 2005 Salzburg Summer Festival.Fabrizio Brezzo, this arranger, lives in Taggia, the town where Anfossi was born.In the second half of this symphony, you can hear the theme that Mozart used, 9 years later, for his Confutatis maledictis of the requiem mass.
