Published by Hambone Music (A0.1438470). A beautiful slow melody in 4/4 followed by a rousing 6/4 trek with fanfares then returning to the slow melody in 4/4. Not overly difficult but players should be around Grade 5 (ABRSM) and intermediate level concert bands, school bands and symphonic wind ensembles should manage it easily. Inspired by an old ruined church in my town called the 'Cross Kirk' during the times of the Cromwellian invasion of Scotland.Part 1 It is around the year 1650. A novice monk awakes from his slumber to the echoes of prayers and holy chanting coming through the cloisters. After he rises, he readies the oxen for a trek down the St. Andrews Road to the nearby satellite site of the priory - the site of the modern day St Andrew's cemetery.Part 2 It is an arduous trek over a muddy, rocky, unprepared track with heavy carts, with oxen straining to pull the load. They stop for a breather (3:09) and the impressive vistas are observed and the flag at 'Auld Neidpath' is just visible, reflected in the noble theme between the arduous oxen trekking theme.Part 3 The caravan starts to speed up; the oxen being startled by the sounds of fanfare trumpets coming from behind - a brave group of knights have broken through English lines and speed towards Neidpath to reinforce the besieged occupants. As they pass the wagon train, the fanfares get louder until the party reach the head of the train where the lead Knight halts to show piety to the Hieromonk who blesses him and his knights. The novice looks on awe-inspired at the brave knights, with noble faces, resplendent in shining armour, with banners flapping in the wind. No time to stop! The knights remount and continue on, the fanfares trailing off into the distance. The wagon train slows down having reached its destination.Part 4 The novice is back at the priory, reflecting on seeing knights for the first time (receiving their blessing); their nobility and bravery impressed upon him and retires to his cell for the evening, the evening prayers and chants again echoing through the cloisters . As he closes his eyes, his mind returns to the knights and a smile crosses his face as he gently drifts off to sleep, as the final bell of the day tolls.

Notably, Animals topped the singles charts in the United Kingdom, French-speaking Switzerland, and Belgium. Written in the style of nocturne, it is one of the most famous songs in Debussy's work. It is a depiction of the Paris Festival (Revolutionary Day) on July 14. Against the background of the first triplet, you can start to see fireworks shining in the distance. After getting closer and closer and launching it bigger, it's dizzying and colorful.It's changing to shine. Fanfare-style motifs that appear on the way are deployed in various ways, and they are magnificently reproduced at the climax at the end.And the French national anthem La Marseès concludes the song with a reverberation in the aftertaste.The whole scale and the tonic sound are skillfully combined, and the original song is very pianistic.I want to switch the tone and tempo firmly for each scene, and try to play crisp and colorful performances. Adirondack Sketches was commissioned by the Town of Lake Pleasant, which is located in the southern Adirondack Mountains of upstate New York, to celebrate its bicentennial. Written for the local community band (named A Pretty Good Band, Amy Winnie, director), it consists of four short movements, descriptive of my memories of places in and around my home town: 1. Sunrise over Lake Pleasant A gradual expansion of sound based on the horn call at m. 3 brings the lakeshore from predawn darkness to brilliant sunlight. 2. School Picnic at Moffit Beach A march/scherzo expresses the end-of-school exuberance of the school children. 3. Canoeing on Kunjamuck Creek A gently flowing passacaglia, with hints of arch form, depicts the calm, wooded creek. 4. Hiking up Hamilton Mountain An insistent ostinato bass suggests plodding footsteps as a fugue unfolds above, taking a group of excited hikers up the trail to the lookout atop the mountain. Considered a sea chanty, the song was passed on orally by singers on clipper ships. The variations in lyrics that have been collected demonstrate how various singers over the decades have altered the song (consciously or unconsciously). ♫ This arrangement is based on lyrics that were collected prior to 1860 and published in Sea Songs and Shanties by W. B. Whall (1910). There are evidently 2 rivers mentioned in this song, the Shenandoah and the Missouri. The song tells a love story between an impetuous trader and a Shenandoah Valley Native American princess. As the trader heads for the Missouri River, he looks back longingly to the home of the princess. ♫ I have used the Dorian Mode to suggest Native American elements in the story line. The YouTube video features photos of both the Shenandoah River and the Missouri River. ♫ The white man loved the Indian maiden, Away you rolling river. With notions his canoe was laden.
