Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1374473). Margaret Ada Sutherland (20 November 1897 – 12 August 1984) was an Australian composer, among the best-known female musicians her country has produced. A student of Sir Arnold Bax in London during the 1920s, Sutherland wrote pieces in almost all forms, but particularly concentrated on the genre of chamber music. Her major works include a symphony, concertos for various instruments, a symphonic poem entitled Haunted Hills (1953), and a chamber opera. A severe stroke in 1969 ended her composing career. This short 'Movement' is subtitled 'Canzonetta' and dates from 1959. Arranged from the original hand-drawn orchestral manuscript as part of a project to expand the worldwide repertoire of music by women composers for concert band.

Ed Sims #755006. Published by Ed Sims (A0.1154732). Johann Sebastian Bach. His music is the foundation on which so much of our musical heritage is based. But what if he had reappeared and composed in the style of future generations? That question is musically and whimsically pondered in this composition. It opens with a setting of his hymn “Christus, de runs selig machtâ€. We then hear the subsequent variations as he may have used his melody. The first is in the classical style similar to Mozart, which is followed by a Romantic era Viennese waltz style, a la Strauss. He next appears in the late 19th century as a march composer. In his most recent appearance (that we know of), he writes in the swing style of the 1940’s. This piece, which is sure to be an audience favorite, provides the director with limitless opportunities to teach about the Phrygian mode and to discuss many eras of music history and the styles and composers associated with each, while giving the students the challenge of playing and learning to quickly transition to the various styles with music that is both challenging and fun.

The title wasinspired by the big change that comes when one relocates 1,000 miles away from familiar territory to begin a new life.Although this kind of event is very exciting, it also can create pain from the absence of friends and family. The music isintended to sound bittersweet in nature because it's meant to reflect both of these things.I don't usually try to write in a specific form, as I feel that can hurt the natural flow of how the music wants to develop.However, this piece is indeed in anABAform. Almost all of the thematic material in the piece is written in a major key,but with the goal of sounding a little sad. While writing this, I was heavily influenced by the music of Ennio Morriconeand Dan Forrest. There is a short motive used in the B section of the piece that is similar to a motive used in variousfilm themes. Since I associate this motive with Morricone, and because he is one of my all time favorite composers, Idecided to dedicate this piece to him.

I have selected and arranged various famous melodies from the original 4 movements in the symphonic suite; The Sea and Sinbad’s Ship, The Kalandar Prince, The Young Prince and The Young Princess, and Festival at Baghdad. The title wasinspired by the big change that comes when one relocates 1,000 miles away from familiar territory to begin a new life.Although this kind of event is very exciting, it also can create pain from the absence of friends and family. The music isintended to sound bittersweet in nature because it's meant to reflect both of these things.I don't usually try to write in a specific form, as I feel that can hurt the natural flow of how the music wants to develop.However, this piece is indeed in anABAform. Almost all of the thematic material in the piece is written in a major key,but with the goal of sounding a little sad. While writing this, I was heavily influenced by the music of Ennio Morriconeand Dan Forrest. There is a short motive used in the B section of the piece that is similar to a motive used in variousfilm themes. Since I associate this motive with Morricone, and because he is one of my all time favorite composers, Idecided to dedicate this piece to him.
