Published by Lorenzo Bocci.Here's to You is a song by Ennio Morricone and Joan Baez, released in 1971 as part of the soundtrack of the film Sacco & Vanzetti, directed by Giuliano Montaldo. The song is a tribute to two anarchists of Italian origin, Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti who were sentenced to death by a United States court in the 1920s. The lyrics for Here's to You make use of a statement attributed to Vanzetti by Philip D. Strong, a reporter for the North American Newspaper Alliance, who visited Vanzetti in prison in May 1927, three months before his execution.  «If it had not been for these things, I might have lived out my life talking at street corners to scorning men. I might have died, unmarked, unknown, a failure. Now we are not a failure. This is our career and our triumph. Tam (A0.1023851). In 1926, Sousa composed his humoresque A Mingling of the Wets and the Drys, a fantasy on Prohibition wherein takes place a musical conversation between a drinker and a non-drinker. In the course of discussion, they sit down for Tea for Two and we hear familiar tunes such as the Irving Berlin song The Near Future (How Dry I Am) and the Old Oaken Barrel. In the end, the musical debaters agree to disagree and finish with a round of Auld Lang Syne. To his credit Sousa declines to takes sides in this disagreement himself.

The music of this anthem was composed by the Italian-born musician Oreste SÃndici and was first performed in 1887. The song became popular and was quickly adopted as the National Anthem. It was made official in 1920. Colombian musician José Rozo Contreras arranged the music for symphonic band, which was adopted as an official version in 1946.  This quick and easy national anthem arrangement is essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. You can play it with any virtually any combination of instruments: symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! This arrangement is in five independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you’ll need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick 'n' mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. The arrangement consists of a four-page score with six instrumental staves and three percussion staves. Florence Price(b Little Rock, AR, 9 April 1887; d Chicago, IL, 3 June 1953) was the first African American woman to win widespread recognition as a symphonic composer, rising to prominence (with William Grant Still and William Dawson) in the 1930s. After early training with her mother she studied composition at the New England Conservatory in Boston with Wallace Goodrich and Frederick Shepherd Converse (1903–6) and privately with George Whitefield Chadwick. She gained an Artist’s Diploma (organ) and a piano teacher’s diploma.  In her large-scale works Price’s musical language is often conservative, in keeping with the Romantic nationalist style of the 1920s–40s, but it also reflects the influence of her cultural heritage and the ideals of the “Harlem renaissance†of the 1920s–30s. To her art songs and piano music she brought a thorough knowledge of instrumental and vocal writing, colorful harmonies and exotic modulations.The Oak from 1943 was originally written for orchestra and has been transcribed for concert band. The PDF contains the full score and full set of parts.

Published by John McAllister (A0.778226). Pitt Street Bridge was commissioned by the Moultrie Middle School Band to be premiered at the 2020 SCMEA Conference. The remains of the Pitt Street Bridge lie in the Intercoastal Waterway and in what is now called Pickett Bridge Recreation Area. It is within walking distance from the middle school, and it is an integral part of Mt. Pleasant’s history. Originally designed as a trolley bridge that connected Sullivan’s Island and Mount Pleasant, Pitt Street Bridge is now a haven for recreation and relaxation. The lively melodies throughout the piece depict the festive activities that take place on Pitt Street Bridge. The piece opens as though one is standing on the Pitt Street Bridge, gazing out at the immensely beautiful surroundings. Slow and serene as the sun blankets the harbor and the marsh. The bridge has a tremendous history, dating back to the revolutionary war, which is where the melody begins. Deconstructed from part of Sir Peter Parker, a song about the Battle of Sullivan’s Island. A distant memory, this melody will find itself in many ways throughout (three notes rising diatonically followed by a falling 3rd). The woodwinds pattern in the opening (which also appears throughout), represents the ripples in the water, flowing gently back and forth. The military past of the bridge is hinted at in two ways. The snare in the opening, reminiscent of the rudimental style and several harmonies throughout that hint at an Americana style. As the piece picks up tempo, the hustle and bustle of 1920s Charleston comes to life. Harmonically, everything is still built off of the foundation of the original tune, but now we’re in bright and joyous times and people are transported to and from the island in the Roarin’ 20s. The optimism abounds until the climax of the piece as the bridge (musically speaking), fades into the past. At the finale, one is standing on the bridge with the distant melody still played on the flute.
