Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was born in Holborn, London on August 15, 1875 and died from pneumonia at the age of 37 in Croy- don, England on September 1, 1912. At an early age his grandfather began teaching him how to play the violin. His musical ability was obvious and at the age of 15, his extended family arranged for Taylor to study at the Royal College of Music. While at RCM he changed from violin to composition, working under professor Charles Villiers Stanford. His classmates included Ralph Vaughan Williams and Gustav Holst. He was later helped by Edward Elgar in 1898, who described Coleridge-Taylor as far and away the cleverest fellow going amongst the young men. By 1896, Coleridge-Taylor was earning a reputation as a composer and was also accepted as an excellent conductor. In 1898 at the age of 23 he composed the African Suite. Danse Nègre is the last of the four movements that make up the African Suite, Op. 35 (proceeded by Introduction, A Negro Love Song, and Valse). Coleridge-Taylor saw it as his mission in life to help establish the dignity of the black man. He was greatly influenced by black American poet P. L. Dunbar. He made three successful visits to the United States to great acclaim. In 1904, on his first USA tour he was received by President Theodore Roosevelt at the White House. Above all, though, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor was known as a man of great dignity and patience.

Before seeking revenge Santa Anna had accomplished a long felt desire to take over what was righteously his. This battle ended in a Mexican victory, making it an essential part of United States History. Containing Latin flourishes, this piece celebrates the lives lost, while vividly imagining a hot dry battlefield in Texas. Composer Jay Coles best puts this to a musical setting. The Christmas Waltz is a Christmas song written by Sammy Cahn and Jule Styne for Frank Sinatra, who recorded it in 1954 as the B-side of a new recording of White Christmas. Cahn recalls, One day during a very hot spell in Los Angeles the phone rang and it was Jule Styne to say, 'Frank wants a Christmas song.' Cahn resisted. Jule, we're not going to write any Christmas song. After Irving Berlin's 'White Christmas'? The idea's just ridiculous. Styne was emphatic, however. 'Frank wants a Christmas song.' The two met in Styne's apartment to begin work on the project, and Cahn asked the composer, 'Hey, Jule, has there ever been a Christmas waltz?' He said no. I said, 'Play that waltz of yours.' He did so, and Cahn began work on the lyrics of The Christmas Waltz, which many other artists have also recorded, including Doris Day, Peggy Lee, Bing Crosby, Natalie Cole, The Carpenters and many more. This arrangement has been created for concert band from the jazz ensemble version by John Berry.

The title is a reference to the Mona Lisa, the famous painting by Leonardo da Vinci, and to the song of the same name, originally performed by Nat King Cole, which was covered by Seal for the movie. Julia Roberts received a record $25 million for her performance, the highest ever earned by an actress at that time. Rachel Portman's score for the film is in a similar vein to her others for 'The Cider House Rules' and 'Chocolat', but the lovely flute theme in this suite works nicely for concert band and the combination of piano and vibraphone (originally harp) lend a pulsating texture throughout. Perfect for a quiet moment in a concert of film music and, of course, important music by a woman composer in a crowded market of male writers. Arranged as part of an ongoing project to bring more music by women into the worldwide concert band repertoire.

It was dedicated to the regional office of the Freemasony that was headquartered in the city of Boston, Massachusetts. In the march, Carter used the hymn Onward Christians Soldiers by Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan as the melody for the trio, with the woodwinds providing the obbligato above the music. There have been many composers who were Masons; among them are Edward E. Bagley, W. Paris Chambers, Herbert L. Clarke, Merle Evans, Henry Fillmore, Karl L. King and John Philip Sousa. And Freemasony also includes in its ranks such musical luminaries as Louis Armstrong, Gene Autry, Count Basie, Ludwig van Beethoven, Irving Berlin, Roy Clark, Nat King Cole, Duke Ellington, George Gershwin and Paul Whiteman.

Gato de callejón es mi primera pieza para big band. Fue presentada al primer concurso de composición para bandas estudiantiles CORFOBAE durante el 2022, resultando en un cuarto lugar.Esta obra tiene por referencia las sonoridades de swing usadas en varias bandas sonoras de series clásicas (como lo es Don Gato y su pandilla), y por lo tanto, ampliamente extendido en el inconsciente colectivo. El crear una obra en este estilo responde a la necesidad de formentar la creación en este tipo de lenguajes, y en particular, en big band. Fue la primera vez que usé voicings cerrados en toda regla. Se usan armónicamente un par de vueltas relativamente sencillas. En este caso, me excedà con los grados de dificultad para el concurso (3-4), y me quedó una obra que está más cerca del grado 5 en la escala de música instrumental de Hal Leonard. Gato de Callejón is my first big band piece. It was presented to the first CORFO BAE composition contest for student bands during 2022, resulting on a 4th place.This piece has as reference the swing sonorities used on several OST's of classical series (as Top Cat), and because of that, widely extended on the colective inconscient. Creating a work on this style responds to the necessity of fomenting the musical creation on this kind of languages, and in particular, on big band. This was my first time using closed voicings on rule. There's harmonicly a pair of relatively simple turnarounds.In this case, I exceeded the difficulty grades of the contest (3-4), and I had a work mostly near to the grade 5 on Hal Leonard's Instrumental Music Scale.

Carson Parks, originally recorded in 1966 by Parks and his wife Gaile Foote, as Carson and Gaile. A 1967 version by Frank Sinatra and his daughter Nancy Sinatra became a major international hit, reaching number one on both the Billboard Hot 100 chart and the UK Singles Chart. In 2001, a cover version by British vocalist Robbie Williams and Australian actress Nicole Kidman reached number one in the UK Singles Chart. This simple song, with its distinctive harmonisation, has been arranged with young bands in mind and the two duet parts can be played with almost any combination of instruments - the accompaniment can work with as few as 5-6 players, making it very flexible.
