It opens with a tuba and woodblock duet and then skips along happily through a couple meter changes and ends delightfully in two parts. In some ways, this is a relatively simple song. In other ways, it’s tricky. At one place, the melody is tossed around, being played by most instruments within 8 measures. Then, it morphs into 6/8 time for just a few delightful measures before going back to 4/4 for the grand wind-up. IMPORTANT NOTE: The Cover Pages and Conductor's Score are 8.5 x 14. They will need to be printed on appropriate sized paper. From one of the greatest writing duos to ever exist, coupled with one of the greatest RnB bands ever, Got To Get You Into My Life is a toe-tapping tune with catchy melodies and a energetic shuffle feel. For full Wind Band including many of the optional instruments that are often left out (Cor Anglais, Eb Clarinet and Soprano Saxophone), this arrangement features each section of the band on the tune, and really captures the original EWF groove. Jazz articulations and an ability to play the nuances in the tune are important here, so really dig into your bands groovy side to bring out the funk. Pay careful attention to note lengths, especially in the bass line and let your drummer drive the rhythms. Duration: 16 minutes Written in 1783 by English composer William Shield to a famous libretto by Irish playwright John O’Keeffe, The Poor Soldier was a hit at its premier in November 1783 at Covent Garden in London. Quickly reaching American theaters by the following year, it became a frequently performed American Colonial musical theater piece, remaining in the repertory for over fifty years. So popular were the tunes from The Poor Soldier that even as late as 1850, some of the opera’s songs were music hall staples. Apparently George Washington adored this work and had excerpts performed for him at Mount Vernon. In 2008 I was hired to reconstruct the opera the The Poor Soldier from a series of piano sketches and individually sold arias dating back to the late eighteen hundreds. The 2008 production was premiered at SUNY Schenectady County Community College by Musicians of Ma’alwyck. This band suite was created in 2010 and premiered by the Capital Region Wind Ensemble.

Vaughan Williams’ English Folk Song Suite (1924) along with Gustav Holst’s First Suite in E-flat for Military Band (1921) and Second Suite in F for Military Band (1922) are amongst the most performed works in the wind band repertoire. At the time of their composition, these works helped establish what is now the standard instrumentation used for wind band works. As with all Zephyrwindmusic publications, parts come with an Unlimited Copy License, thus removing any copyright issues in the way parts are used. A hard shuffle groove that drives throughout the piece keeps toes tapping.A strong lead trumpet is a must. It is recommended in the score notes that the core big band instrumentation should use jazz horns and saxophones should use a good metal mouthpiece.
