Shades of Paisano is a transcription, by the composer, of four movements from Paisano Suite, an eight-movement work for orchestra. Paisano is the name of a ranch, located in the central Texas hill country west of Austin,once the private retreat of Texas folklorist and writer J. Frank Dobie. Now owned by the University of Texas, the ranch has for many years been used as a residence for recipients of the prized Dobie Paisano Fellowship, awardedtwice annually to promising Texas writers.Paisano Suite, originally scored for a small pit orchestra, was composed there in the fall of 1982 on a grant from the City of Austin for the Austin Ballet Theatre. The resulting ballet was produced in February, 1983 under the title Ballabile, with choreography by ABT artistic director Stanley Hall. The music was revised and re-orchestrated as a concert suite for full orchestra in 2012 and renamed after the ranch where it was written. Four movements were chosen for this concert band transcription. 1. Scherzo 2. Fugue 3. Romanza 4. It was the second single released from her fifth studio album 'Hounds of Love' (1985). Cloudbusting peaked at No. 20 on the UK Singles Chart. Taking inspiration from the 1973 Peter Reich memoir A Book of Dreams, the song is about the very close relationship between psychiatrist and philosopher Wilhelm Reich and his young son, Peter, told from the point of view of the mature Peter. It describes the boy's memories of his life with Reich on their family farm, called Orgonon, where the two spent time cloudbusting, a rain-making process which involved using a machine pointing at the sky. The lyrics further describe Reich's abrupt arrest and imprisonment, the pain of loss the young Peter felt, and his helplessness at being unable to protect his father. The predominant string texture has been retained in this concert band arrangement, transposed to a more band-friendly key and the thumping percussion recalls Kate Bush's megahit 'Running Up That Hill'. Arranged as part of a project to expand the repertoire of music for concert band by women composers.

Written with the first 4 notes of the A minor blues scale in mind, and using only 6 different notes, younger players will find instant success when learning its catchy bass line and repeated rhythms.Time Out can be performed by a minimal concert ensemble of flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and percussion, and uses the A minor blues scale (A, C, D, Eâ™). I am incredibly excited to offer this selection to you in a effort to diversify concert band music repertoire for younger player that avoids using typical key signatures, but does not veer too far away from standard practices. It is suggested that players practice playing the first few notes of the concert Bâ™ scale (Bâ™, C, D, Eâ™), then swapping out concert Bâ™ for concert A. Make sure measures 1-3 are accurately learned by the wind players before learning the rest of the piece. In measure 39, there is a glissando, or “fall†that might be seen in jazz music. (The playback does not support accurate sounds for this effect.) When I arranged this, I only had early elementary clarinet players so that part is entirely written below the break. It can be taken up an octave for more advanced players. There is a flute solo for your best flute player, it could also be omitted if necessary. The mallet part could also be omitted in a pinch. It Is Well With My Soul is a hymn penned by hymnist Horatio Spafford and composed by Philip Bliss. First published in Gospel Songs No. 2 by Ira Sankey and Bliss (1876), it is possibly the most influential and enduring in the Bliss repertoire and is often taken as a choral model, appearing in hymnals of a wide variety of Christian fellowships. Horatio Spafford's original lyrics are included below. It was released as the third single from their third studio album, Love (1987). Released as a single in 1988, the track peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart and became a top-40 hit in Australia and Ireland. Songwriter Roddy Frame said in 2014 that the song has been great for him, but at the time of creating the album, the song was not in keeping with the other songs. Around this time, Frame had become somewhat of a recluse, living in a remote wooden shack in Hollywood, Marple Bridge, in the hills above Manchester, going through periods of good and bad mental health, while continuing to write music, including the lyric from Westwood to Hollywood in the song. The distinctive saxophone sound is retained and towards the end is an opportunity for your star alto and tenor to solo or battle, to close out the song in the way that it is often performed live by Aztec Camera. The song is featured prominently in the 2019 film '47 Meters Down: Uncaged' and the 2020 Netflix series 'I Am Not Okay with This'.

Published by Kreechur Kumfort Publishing (A0.833833). Storm at King’s Pointe was composed for the Buena Vista Middle School Honor Band at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake, Iowa. Originally planned for February 2017, this event ironically was canceled two years in a row due to severe weather. Located on the eastern edge of Storm Lake is a water park-themed resort called King’s Pointe Resort. This composition depicts a summer storm as it moves over the Iowa hills and across the normally-placid lake. Distant thunder is first heard as dark clouds approach, covering blue Iowa sky. Soon, the drama of drenching rain, powerful wind, and flashes of lightening is represented in an aggressive minor melody. Changes in intensity common to a Midwest storm is reflected within the composition including a quiet respite in the middle and storm-like thunderous percussion breaks. Fully accessible by music ensembles from middle school on up, Storm at King’s Pointe is a nice addition to any concert band program, delighting both players as well as the audience.
