Published by PDF Band Music (B0.PDF-BAND319). 8.5 x 11 inches.Sinfonia No. 3 is a unique and sparkling work for young bands (Grade 1) which gives a nod to more advanced suites for band. The 3 movement suite opens with Air and is a homage to traditional AABA song form. The 2nd movement Ballade features a haunting melody first heard in the clarinets and alto saxophone and, while not technically difficult, the movement offers the potential for much musical expression. The 3rd movement March is a processional-like movement which brings the entire suite to a sprited conclusion. Sinfonia No. 3 presents a diverse collection of sound colors and genres and each movement can be performed seperately. The clarinet parts do not cross the break and the high note for trumpet is D. Make Sinfonia No. 3 an must have selection for every middle school band.

Mephistopheles snatches the fiddle from the hands of a lethargic fiddler and draws from it indescribably seductive and intoxicating strains. The amorous Faust whirls about with a full-blooded village beauty in a wild dance; they waltz in mad abandon out of the room, into the open, away into the woods. The sounds of the fiddle grow softer and softer, and the nightingale warbled his love-laden song. Mephisto Waltz No. 1 is paired with a work preceding it, Midnight Procession (Der Nächtliche Zug), however this piece is not as widely performed. Liszt later transcribed the waltz into a piano duet and a virtuosic solo piano work. Each of these versions were written around the same time, roughly 1859-62. The composer wanted to portray to an audience, more the expression of feeling than painting and evoke feelings and emotion through his music. With this movement, the composer evokes a country rainstorm. The storm starts with a few raindrops, builds to a cacophony of thunder and lightning and passes on with an occasional peal of thunder still heard in the distance. The movement then segues into the fifth movement – also arranged for Concert Band separately. 2016 Arrangement New Release.
