The lyrics embrace both a secular and religious message of peace, love, and hope inspired by the beauty of winter snow. I really wanted to write a more profound Christmas song with an important message embracing a modern view of Christmas since so many songs are commercialized or limited in meaning.Having lived in the Arizona desert since 2007, snow has become a novelty to me, and I was inspired by its beauty and the memories I had of winter growing up in northern Illinois. The chorus that repeats throughout the song presents an irony of winter warming the soul. I found this to be both interesting and also meaningful in that I was describing my new viewpoint of winter snow (seeing more beauty in it than before) and presenting a metaphor for life-one that encourages the listener to see the beauty in something that most northerners despise.The first verse begins with sensory perceptions including seeing, hearing, touching, and smelling various natural qualities of winter. The second verse describes the joy of children playing in the snow and their belief in winter stories. The third verse is directed at worrying adults with a message of hope for the future. The bridge encourages the listener to look past the negativity and differences in other people and look towards Christmas and the new year for a hope renewed. The final verse concludes with the traditional religious view of Christmas tradition.

We've been through many good and bad emotions. We have been recieving news, some good, some upsetting. Some days we are so happy, we want to jump everywhere and on others we want to bawl our eyes out. And that's how it is. Jolt plays through all of these emotions, the good and bad ones. It represent how sometimes, we are so happy about something, but it doesnt work out. It represents how sometimes, we hope for something that will never occur. It represents how sometimes in life, there are things that upset us. But in the end, we are stronger than those bad feelings. We are stronger than sadness, than the madness we sometimes feel dealing with those challenges. Sometimes we feel thrown around. At the end of the day, it will always get better. It will always work out. __________________________________________________ *As you may have noticed, this piece is graded with three different levels. Most instruments have two levels: beginner and advanced (grade 1 and 4), but some of the most common instruments in a concert band (flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet and percussion) have an extra intermediate level (grade 2.5). This piece has been written for bands or classes that have student of different levels, but still want to play together. It was originally released as an album track on 1971's Poems, Prayers & Promises and later, as a single in 1973. Denver wrote this song on an early spring day in Minnesota when the rain was gently falling. He found himself looking forward to spending more time outdoors and enjoying the sunshine. He said of the song, On one level it was about the virtues of love. On another, more deeply felt level, it reached for something the whole world could embrace. Published by John Ivor Holland (A0.1470018). 'Match of the Day' was written by 29-year-old composer Barry Stoller in 1970 as the programme wanted a theme suitable for the new decade. Stoller’s was chosen out of half-a-dozen submissions to be the show’s new theme, and show runners at the time had simply briefed entrants to compose ‘something good’. Stoller used a multitrack recorder and enlisted the help of two of his friends to record the iconic theme in his East London basement. In May 2010, British copyright collective PRS for music, revealed that the 'Match of the Day' tune was the most recognisable TV theme in the UK. From a private residence to screens across the nation, over 50 years later, this iconic theme sums up everything to do with the 'beautiful game' and now freshly available for concert band.

'Spirited Away' is a multi award-winning 2001 Japanese animated fantasy film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki, animated by Studio Ghibli. It tells the story of Chihiro, a ten-year-old girl who, while moving to a new neighbourhood, enters a strange spirit world. After her parents are turned into pigs by a witch, Chihiro takes a job working in her bathhouse to find a way to free herself and her parents and return to the human world. Originally released in Japan in 2001, the film received universal acclaim, becoming the highest-grossing film in Japanese history, a record it held until 2020. 'Spirited Away' is regarded by many as the greatest animated film of all time; it won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature at the 75th Academy Awards, making it the first, and to date only, hand-drawn and non-English-language animated film to win the award. The film score was composed and conducted by Miyazaki's regular collaborator Joe Hisaishi, and performed by the New Japan Philharmonic.
