The first, Der er et yndigt land (There is a lovely land) is the civil national anthem and the most frequently performed. When it was first published in 1819, the anthem had twelve verses but today it has been significantly shortened. The dotted rhythm in measure 15 (in Parts 1 and 2) is sometimes played as two equal eighth notes (quavers). The second anthem, Kong Christian stod ved højen mast (King Christian stood by the lofty mast) has equal status but is mainly used for royal and military occasions. At such times, it is either performed alone or the two anthems are played together. Known simply as Kong Christian it is traditionally sung in Denmark immediately after midnight every New Year's Eve. The audio sample contains the first, more popular anthem. These quick and easy national anthem arrangements are essential for traveling musicians, bands, instrumental groups and both amateur and professional ensembles. You can play it with any virtually any combination of instruments: symphonic band, clarinet choir, brass ensemble, brass band, solos, duets and trios - almost anything! This arrangement is in six independent parts each transposed into a variety of keys. For the most satisfying sound you’ll need to get a good balance between each part possibly with an emphasis on the melodic line. If you have a non-standard ensemble, you can pick 'n' mix as required. The piano reduction can fill missing parts or can be used as the basis for an accompaniment. Note that this anthem is virtually identical to the anthem of Finland. There is a minor difference in part of the melody and the repeat structure is different. This arrangement consists of a four-page score with seven instrumental staves and three percussion staves. The following parts are printed on separate pages. The score and all the parts are contained in the same pdf file. The First Movement, Atmospheres, is a beautiful tranquil setting in the key of C major while the beauty portrays the humidity. The Second Movement, is a dance like movement of the scene while people are strolling in Paradise. The Key signature contrast is from D minor to D major and then to D minor once again. The last two movements are in the Key of F major. The third movement displays of what it is like to chill out in the sunlight. This deeply moving ballad is so beautiful and will portray the longest movement of the piece. The last and fourth movement is a 6/8 Dance of getting yourself exposed to the sunlight.Themes from the Beach Tuba Part is 5 pages long and is listed in the following movements. Considered by many to be the first 'true' horror film, Caligari was incredibly innovative with its use of cinematography, warped sets, and the first substantial use of what is now known as the ‘plot-twist’ ending. The title character of the film, Dr. Caligari, has a cabinet - (believe it or not!) - and in this cabinet lives the somnambulist (the sleepwalker), Cesare, who goes around carrying out Caligari's evil deeds. Directed by Robert Wiene and staring Werner Krauss and Conrad Veidt, The Cabinet of Dr. Calagari continues to influence, inspire, and captivate filmmakers even today. Premiered in Bangkok, Thailand in January 2011, conducted by Dimosthenis Dimitrakoulakos. Program Notes: The image of Pele, the Hawaiian goddess of fire and volcanoes, kept reappearing in my mind as the main focus for this piece. According to myth, the islands of Hawaii owe their existence to Pele who ran away from her jealous sister, a sea goddess, to these tiny islands. Her sister sent tidal waves and Pele answered by sending fiery lava into the ocean, making new land as it cooled. The spirit of Pele lives on in the craters of the volcano, watching over the islands, reminding us that fiery eruptions and emotional upheavals are followed by new life and change. Pele, unpredictable and powerful, makes her entrance with a loud bang of brass and percussion, followed by the entire ensemble joining in. As the trumpets trail off, words from the ancient Hawaiian chant E Pele, E Pele are heard moving between each section in contrasting rhythms, as the tuba and low brass unfold the main theme. This chant is performed in Hawaiian culture accompanied by hula kahiko, an ancient style of hula dancing. The vibraphone plays a tranquil melody reminiscent of a Hawaiian wind chime softly blowing in the wind. The congas and rainstick evokes a tribal element. The piece is meant to juxtapose the multi-faceted natures of Pele. Syncopated rhythms in the winds paired with big brass and percussion represent her passion and violent temper. The playful, quiet, lingering sections led by the flute and vibraphone represent her irresistible and enchanting mystery as she creates new land and the living things that inhabit these magnificent islands.
