An arrangement of the famous Smoke on the Water for Concert/Wind Band.Smoke on the Water is a song by English rock band Deep Purple, released on their 1972 studio album Machine Head. The song's lyrics are based on true events, chronicling the 1971 fire at Montreux Casino. It is considered the band's signature song and contains one of the most recognizable guitar riffs in rock history.In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine placed Smoke on the Water number 434 on its list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time. Total Guitar magazine ranked the song's riff number 4 on its Greatest Guitar Riffs Ever list, and in March 2005, Q magazine placed it at number 12 in its list of the 100 greatest guitar tracks.Smoke on the Water is easily identified by its central theme, developed by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. It is a four-note blues scale melody in G minor,[8] harmonised in parallel fourths. The riff, played on a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar by Blackmore, is later joined by hi-hat and distorted organ, then the rest of the drums, then electric bass parts before the start of Ian Gillan's vocal.Blackmore later claimed that the main riff is an interpretation of inversion of Symphony No. 5 by Ludwig van Beethoven, and that I owe him a lot of money.Jon Lord doubles the guitar part on a Hammond C3 organ played through a distorted Marshall amp, creating a tone very similar to that of the guitar. Blackmore usually plays the main riff using a finger pluck.The lyrics tell a true story: on 4 December 1971, Deep Purple were in Montreux, Switzerland, to record an album (Machine Head) using a mobile recording studio (rented from the Rolling Stones and known as the Rolling Stones Mobile Studio—referred to as the Rolling truck Stones thing and a mobile in the lyrics) at the entertainment complex that was part of the Montreux Casino (referred to as the gambling house in the song lyric).

Published by Gryphon Music Australia (A0.787451). Franz Schubert's Erlkönig (Erl King) is one of the most terrifying pieces of music to come out of the early 19th Century. It is a song with piano set to a poem by Goethe, depicting a father's desperate ride through the night with his dying son. The son is being taunted by the utterly malevolent Erl King, but the father cannot hear this and tries in vain to keep his son calm. The son's distress increases as the Erl King comes closer and closer, finally claiming the son's life before the father can get him to safety. In this unabridged arrangement the characters of the narrator, father, son and Erl King are delineated by a different combination of instruments for each. The relentless galloping of the horse is maintained throughout. This is an exciting work that any band at intermediate level will enjoy, as will the audience!

Daft Punk released the song as the lead single from their fourth and final studio album, Random Access Memories, on 19 April 2013. Before its release as a single, Get Lucky was featured in television advertisements broadcast during Saturday Night Live, after which Rodgers and Williams announced their involvement in the track. Get Lucky is a house-inspired disco, funk, and pop track with lyrics that, according to Williams, are about the good fortune of connecting with someone, as well as sexual chemistry. Get Lucky has since received acclaim from critics, with a number of them praising Williams's vocals and Rodgers's guitar riffs.The song reached number one in several countries, including Daft Punk's native France, where the Syndicat National de l'Édition Phonographique (SNEP) certified it diamond. Get Lucky peaked at number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 for five consecutive weeks, giving Daft Punk their first top-10 hit in the United States. In the UK, the single topped the UK Singles Chart for four weeks and was the second best-selling single of 2013 with 1,308,007 copies sold. The song won multiple awards, including Record of the Year and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 56th Annual Grammy Awards. Daft Punk performed it on many television programmes and awards shows, including the 56th Annual Grammy Awards, during which Stevie Wonder joined Rodgers, Williams and Daft Punk onstage to perform the song.

It reached number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks in March 1962. The song features a prominent riff from well-known harmonica player Delbert McClinton; while touring the UK in 1962 with the Beatles, McClinton gave John Lennon some harmonica tips; Lennon put the lessons to use right away on Love Me Do and later Please Please Me. Lennon included Hey! Baby in his jukebox and a version of the song was recorded by Ringo Starr in 1976. Hey! Baby! was used in the 1987 hit film 'Dirty Dancing' in the scene in which Johnny and Baby dance on top of a log; a dance remix in early 2000 by Austrian artist DJ Ötzi brought it back to prominence again, reaching number 1 in the UK, Irish and Australian charts. This arrangement for concert band has a harmonica part to tie-in with the original, but is beefed up with elements used from a marching band chart by Tom Wallace.
