Isaiah 9:2* Humility seeks to draw attention to the Advent portion of the holiday season. This programmatic composition seeks to create an aural picture of the atmosphere both physically and spiritually in the eastern world B. C. and then try and connect it to Christmas traditions today. Students will really enjoyed rehearsing and performing this piece because of it’s programmatic nature, use of a plethora of percussion as well as some unusual uses of and combinations of instruments. Piccolo flute in the low register, soprano saxophone, open tom drums and oboe to create some Middle Eastern ambiance. Then, in order to create ‘the land of the shadow of death’ some unusual techniques call for whispers through instruments, french horns ringing their hands in and out of the bell, flutes playing on the head joints only, attaching a tenor saxophone mouthpiece to a euphonium and a baritone saxophone mouthpiece to a sousaphone. Add some trumpets and trombones playing only on their lead pipes and double reeds buzzing on just the reed and a haunting canvas to build the chaos of a world without salvation is created. Then, with the calming of the piano to present an extremely stark and hallow arrangement of the 7th century antiphon Veni Immanuel, ‘O Come, O Come Immanuel’ which crescendos to the coming of the savior at measure 128 precipitates the a highly antiphonal arrangement of ‘Joy to World.’ While this piece has some characteristics of ‘novelty band music’ there are plenty of technical demands that must be met in order to make it a legitimate concert band literature selection. *THE HOLY BIBLE: NEW INTERNATIONAL VERSION®. For one thing, I put a big emphasis on FLAG WAS SITLL THERE!. You are welcome to use your own percussion parts as the ones I have written (with the exception of the mallets) are pretty much traditional. Instrumentation: picc, flute, oboe, bassoon, clar. 1,2,3, bass clar, alto 1,2, tenor, bari, tpt 1,2,3, horn 1,2,3, trombone 1,2,3, baritone (both TC and BC parts), tuba, mallets, perc (snare, bass drum and crash cym)The MP3 recording was created with the FINALE sounds. Naturally, it does not reproduce MARCATO style unless I input input all quarters as dotted 8ths. Actually, I start the piece CANTABILE and switch to MARCATO at and the rocket's red glare. I never could get the percussion sounds I wanted so I entered the snare roll as individual notes. Thanks.

For Concert Band 12mThe anthropologists say that Cro-Magnon men lived in caves and used some basic tools, such as hooks and needles. They cooked, made clothes, and buried the dead. Some say they made art, painting on the walls of the caves. They were the first to question things. I imagine that, with curiosity, they invented faith. They cooked faith with fear to invent courage. I made this piece in 2011 when I started researching new languages ​​for my writing. The previous piece, Eli, Eli, sought to represent a current men walking on their faith, searching for it. Magnon seeks to represent an older man, seeking to give reason to his own fear. The style of musical writing is different from my other works. There are three distinct pieces within this piece, almost like movements, unified by a structure of relationships between notes and use of motifs, although these rarely occur in the same way. The melodies are divided and their pieces are thrown for as multiple possibilities of the timbres. Above technical considerations, there is a constant sense of instability more or less pronounced. This is done in the beginning to show the intention of a beautiful creation story without death and in the end as kind of a, this is just the beginning, sentiment by way of a half cadence. After all, in regards to this composition, Christmas day is just the beginning of the purpose of the Word made flesh. However, in this arrangement, cheekily translated as Let It Snow … But Quietly, the well-known melody in 6/8 time is presented in 4/4 time with a soul treatment. Other German Christmas tunes have also been worked into this medium-difficulty piece. Published by John McAllister (A0.778226). Pitt Street Bridge was commissioned by the Moultrie Middle School Band to be premiered at the 2020 SCMEA Conference. The remains of the Pitt Street Bridge lie in the Intercoastal Waterway and in what is now called Pickett Bridge Recreation Area. It is within walking distance from the middle school, and it is an integral part of Mt. Pleasant’s history. Originally designed as a trolley bridge that connected Sullivan’s Island and Mount Pleasant, Pitt Street Bridge is now a haven for recreation and relaxation. The lively melodies throughout the piece depict the festive activities that take place on Pitt Street Bridge. The piece opens as though one is standing on the Pitt Street Bridge, gazing out at the immensely beautiful surroundings. Slow and serene as the sun blankets the harbor and the marsh. The bridge has a tremendous history, dating back to the revolutionary war, which is where the melody begins. Deconstructed from part of Sir Peter Parker, a song about the Battle of Sullivan’s Island. A distant memory, this melody will find itself in many ways throughout (three notes rising diatonically followed by a falling 3rd). The woodwinds pattern in the opening (which also appears throughout), represents the ripples in the water, flowing gently back and forth. The military past of the bridge is hinted at in two ways. The snare in the opening, reminiscent of the rudimental style and several harmonies throughout that hint at an Americana style. As the piece picks up tempo, the hustle and bustle of 1920s Charleston comes to life. Harmonically, everything is still built off of the foundation of the original tune, but now we’re in bright and joyous times and people are transported to and from the island in the Roarin’ 20s. The optimism abounds until the climax of the piece as the bridge (musically speaking), fades into the past. At the finale, one is standing on the bridge with the distant melody still played on the flute.
