These three pieces (The Procession, Waltzing in the Rain and Tim's Dance) are presented here as a suite, but may of course be used individually. The instrumentation is flexible, allowing for various combinations of instruments, including Clarinet Quartet/Quintet/Ensemble, Saxophone Quartet/Quintet/Ensemble and Brass Quartet/Quintet/Ensemble. All Clarinet and Bass Clarinet parts are below the break and all notes for all parts are kept within a comfortable range for Elementary Level performers. The melody is shared between Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4, so that all players of these parts have important parts! The score is shown in concert pitch. Octave displacement occurs in some parts. Part 5 is Optional. Rhythmic values used: semibreve (whole note), dotted minim (dotted half-note), minim (half-note), crotchet (quarter-note), quavers (eighth-notes). Articulations/signs used: staccato, accent, slur, tie, repeat and pause. All three pieces are in Bb major (concert pitch), with no use of accidentals. Kristenmark Overture was commissioned and composed for the Symphonic Wind Ensemble of the University of Minnesota Duluth, Mark Whitlock conductor and the Symphony Band of the University of Wisconsin River Falls, Kristin Tjornehoj, conductor.The name Kristinmark are the first names of both conductors.It has been played many times in Europe, South America and the United States. It is often used in honor band festivals as it fits the level of difficulty (grade 4) for the average high school band festival and good duration for such events – seven minutes. The piece is in a clear Sonata Allegro form and includes short solos for trombone, horn, alto sax, trumpet, timpani, snare drum, tuba, oboe, crotales, flute, piccolo, bassoon, euphonium and clarinet. Non of the solos are very long or difficult. The solos are meant to feature as many musicians as possible. In some cases, alternate instruments have cues if particular instrumentalists are not strong performers . In 2017 Kristenmark Overture was submitted to The American Prize Composition Contest, Band Division.
