Concert Band - Level 1 - Digital Download SKU: A0.1272140 Composed by Cory J. McBride. Contest,Festival,Instructional. Score and Parts. 35 pages. Cory J. McBride #864471. Published by Cory J. McBride (A0.1272140). AS NIGHTTIME STARS SHINE takes the listener to a place of quiet serenity looking into the vastness of the night sky while spotting brilliant nighttime phenomena such as a passing comet, meteor shower, or the colorful Northern Lights (Aurora Borealis). No matter the reason, the nighttime sky never disappoints. While lyrical in nature, percussion parts for up to seven percussionists (more if parts are doubled) are included, with several parts optional for those bands with fewer percussionists. This piece is a great way to introduce your young musicians to lyrical playing in a comfortable and low-risk scenario!

Written by Gaga and Jeppe Laursen, who produced it along with Fernando Garibay and DJ White Shadow, the track was developed while Gaga was on the road with the Monster Ball Tour. Inspired by 1990s music which empowered women, minorities, and the LGBT community, Gaga explained that Born This Way was her freedom song. It was also inspired by Carl Bean and his song I Was Born This Way, released in 1977. She sang part of the chorus at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and announced it as the lead single from the album, released on February 11, 2011.The song is backed by rumbling synth sounds, a humming bass and additional chorus percussion, with sole organ toward the end. The lyrics discuss the self-empowerment of the LGBT community and racial minorities. Critics positively reviewed the song, calling it a club-ready anthem. In 2023, Rolling Stone named Born This Way the Most Inspirational LGBT Song of All Time. It reached number one in over 25 countries and was her third single to top the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and the 1,000th song in that chart's history (since 1958) to reach number one. Born This Way has sold 8.2 million copies worldwide, making it one of the best-selling singles of all time.Nick Knight directed the accompanying music video, which was inspired by surrealist painters like Salvador Dalí and Francis Bacon. Gaga is depicted as giving birth to a new race during a prologue. After a series of dance sequences, the video concludes with the view of a city populated by this race. Critics noted the video's references to the work of Madonna, Michael Jackson and fashion designer Alexander McQueen, as well as to Greek mythology and surrealism.Gaga performed the song at the 53rd Annual Grammy Awards after coming out of an incubating vessel. Shortly after, she added it to the setlist of the last leg of the Monster Ball Tour. Born This Way was later performed on television shows, such as Saturday Night Live, Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve and Good Morning America, many of the singer's tours, and it was notably part of her Super Bowl LI halftime show set. The song was treated with different remixes, including a Country Road version recorded by Gaga herself and another by Indian production duo Salim–Sulaiman. It has been covered by artists such as Alice Cooper, Madonna, and Katy Perry.

Concert Band - Level 2 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549200 Composed by Giovanni Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie. Easter,Renaissance,Standards. 27 pages. Jmsgu3 #3458689. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549200). Giovanni Gabrieli: Jubilate Deo (Ch. 136). Instrumentation: small concert band, no percussion. Here is a stunningly beautiful example of Renaissance polyphony and a mesmerizing fast-paced recital number. Program this initially to set an exciting mood or as an encore to leave the listeners in a jubilant afterglow. The parts are not tricky, but plan to rehearse the many subtleties of dynamic contrast between the various sub-groups and the overall articulations. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and, indeed, instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and reverberation for maximum effect. Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was the first to indicate them, such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. Consequently, he was also a pioneer in spatial techniques. He, therefore, developed and used very specific notation to indicate instrumentation. Gabrieli experimented with assembling massive instrumental forces into isolated groups separated by space. In this way, he consequently contributed heavily to the Baroque Concertato style. Polychoral Works Gabrieli probably used the layout of the San Marco church for his experiments. This is because he worked there as a musician and composer. Furthermore, the church had two choir lofts facing each other. He indeed used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Indeed, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, followed by a group response. Sometimes there was probably a third group near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather more than two groups. Because they could be appropriately situated, the instruments could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper can, in contrast, sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets and his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) seem to move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material but developing it by sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, the instruments are an essential part of the presentation, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – called Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. He writes sections purely for instruments – which calls Sinfonia – and smaller sections for vocal soloists, accompanied by a basso continuo.

Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.549215 Composed by Gabrieli. Arranged by James M. Guthrie, ASCAP. Renaissance,Standards. Score and Parts. 47 pages. Jmsgu3 #3467666. Published by jmsgu3 (A0.549215). A musical monument: the first known composition in history to employ dynamics. Instrumentation: Medium-sized Concert Band. 1 PiccoloAt least 2 flutes, clarinets, alto & tenor saxesAt least 1 bass clarinetAt least  2 trumpets, horns, trombones & tubas4 timpaniScore: 20 pg. 81 measures. Duration: 3:45 at half-note = 86. Innovations First of all, Gabrieli preferred sacred vocal and certainly instrumental music. Hence, he concentrated on music that consequently took advantage of resonance and likewise reverberation for maximum effect. Seems like Gabrieli may have invented dynamics – or was rather the first to indicate them such as in his Sonata Pian’ e Forte. He certainly used these to create striking spatial effects between instrumental forces. Certainly, many of his works are composed such that a choir or instrumental group could first be heard on one side, then consequently followed by a response from the group on the other side. Sometimes there was probably a third group positioned near the main altar as well. Spatial Music Above all, Gabrieli studied carefully detailed groups of instruments and singers. Furthermore, it seems like he created precise directions for instrumentation in rather than two groups. The instruments, because they could be appropriately situated, could consequently be heard with perfect clearness at distant locations. As a result, arrangements that seem bizarre on paper, can in contrast sound perfectly in balance. First Works Finally, Gabrieli published his first motets along with his uncle Andrea's compositions in Concerti (1587). These compositions furthermore indicate considerable usage of dialogue and echo effects. Consequently, here we see low and high choirs with the variance between their ranges indicated by instrumental accompaniment. Seems like Gabrieli’s later motets Sacrae Symphoniae (1597) move away from close antiphony. In contrast, he moves towards not simply echoing the material, but developing it through sequential choral entrances. Even more, he takes this procedure to the extreme in the Motet Omnes Gentes. Unlike earlier works, here the instruments are certainly an essential part of the presentation. Also, only parts marked: Capella are supposed to be sung. Homophony Hence, after 1605, Gabrieli moves to a much more homophonic style. For Concert Band 12mThe anthropologists say that Cro-Magnon men lived in caves and used some basic tools, such as hooks and needles. They cooked, made clothes, and buried the dead. Some say they made art, painting on the walls of the caves. They were the first to question things. I imagine that, with curiosity, they invented faith. They cooked faith with fear to invent courage. I made this piece in 2011 when I started researching new languages for my writing. The previous piece, Eli, Eli, sought to represent a current men walking on their faith, searching for it. Magnon seeks to represent an older man, seeking to give reason to his own fear. The style of musical writing is different from my other works. There are three distinct pieces within this piece, almost like movements, unified by a structure of relationships between notes and use of motifs, although these rarely occur in the same way. The melodies are divided and their pieces are thrown for as multiple possibilities of the timbres. Above technical considerations, there is a constant sense of instability more or less pronounced. Such is fear

The Coal River Valley is a predominantly agrarian region in the South East of Tasmania, with the town of Richmond as its regional centre. The region is also known for its convict history and colonial era buildings and infrastructure. The region features the historical Richmond Bridge, which is recognised as the oldest bridge in Australia. The bridge spans over the Coal River and was built by convict labour. Construction commenced in 1823, with the bridge formally opened in 1825. The town of Richmond was proclaimed a police district in 1824. It is also important to acknowledge the First Nations people of the region, the Mumirimina people. According to the Richmond 200 website, the land that is now known as Richmond and the Coal River Valley was home to the Oyster Bay nation for millennia. It is noted that the establishment of the police district in Richmond significantly “contributed to the ultimate destruction of the Mumirimina band†(Richmond 200, 2023).Although this composition has been written to commemorate the bicentenary of the Richmond Bridge, it is intended to evoke images of the landscape and the river, as well as acknowledge the past of the region, represent the present and look forwards to the region’s future.Further information can be found here: https://www.richmond200.com

Concert Band - Level 5 - Digital Download SKU: A0.971646 Composed by Jeffrey Hoover. 20th Century,Contemporary. Score and parts. 27 pages. Musicart Publications #4325189. Published by Musicart Publications (A0.971646). This is an 11 x 17 PDF download SCORE for large wind ensemble. A standard Grade 5 work, The Gates of Madrid is inspired by two things found at the heart of Madrid's civic identity: historic stone and iron gateways (such as the Puerta de Hierro from the 18th Century) and Spanish Flamenco music. In this beautiful and challenging composition, the music unfolds as two arching sections, similar in character to a Flamenco song, with shifting meter and contrasts in harmony, dynamics, and tone color. As one takes this musical walk through the streets of Madrid old fanfares are heard, contrasting the intimate Flamenco-like melody that is developed. The Gates of Madrid concludes with a triumphant fanfare. Band performance parts are available on rental: please contact musicart.publications.editor@gmail.com for further information. Jeffrey Hoover's compositions - music ranging from works for soloist to symphony orchestra -have received recognition through the prestigious Trieste prize, the international Luigi Russolo competition, awards from Mu Phi Epsilon, the Lancaster Fine Arts Festival, grants, publications fellowships and more than 20 commissions. He is a member of the ACME roster of Mu Phi Epsilon, recognized for distinguished achievement as a composer. One unique aspect of Hoover’s work is when he combines composition with his paintings, creating synergetic art that intrigues and captivate audiences and performers alike. His paintings are seen in exhibitions and in concerts where his paintings are projected while musicians perform his music. Hoover’s background as a performer includes both classical and jazz music, as saxophonist and conductor. His book The Arts and Society: Making New Worlds is published by Kendall Hunt Publishing. Hoover was born on September 11, 1959, in Anderson, Indiana. He holds a Ph.D. in Fine Arts (Composition and Interdisciplinary Fine Arts) from Texas Tech University, as well as and .Sc. from Ball State University. His career in higher education has included both faculty and arts administration appointments.

Despite its disappointing position in the competition results, the song has remained a fan favourite, with its strong, operatic melody and classical harmony. Malena Ernman is a well respected soprano, as well as being the mother of Greta Thunberg and this song would be great paired up with other Eurovision songs, such as ABBA's 'Waterloo'. Arranged as part of a project to bring more music by women into the worldwide concert band repertoire.

A slow march I entitled The Royal Hussar, is an original ceremonial slow march of mine, suitable for indoor or outdoor performance. Slow March: This is a ceremonial pace, used for funeral marches and when a unit’s colours are marched out in front of the troops. The feet are kept parallel to the ground and the arms are never used. In the United States Marine Corps, arms swing as the distance they normally would in quicktime, but at the same pace as marching. U.S. Marine Color Guards do not swing their arms. Slow March is typically used in the Marine Corps for funeral details and ceremonies such as the Marine Corps Ball (when the cake is escorted out). In Spain, Latin America, and the Philippines this is done during religious processions whenever a military band joins it. This march style is the official parade march in the armed forces of Bolivia and Ecuador and the military academies and schools of Venezuela, done with the goose step during parades and ceremonies. The standard pace is 60 paces per minute. Famous slow marches include:Preobrajensky Regimental Slow March Presented to the Royal Marines by Admiral of the Fleet The Earl Mountbatten of Burma on 10th June 1964 and first performed as the Regimental Slow March of the Royal Marines on Horse Guards Parade that night. The march was composed by the Russian composer Donajowsky for the Russian Tzar’s Preobrajensky Guard. The Royal Hussars Slow March ’Coburg’, a tune composed by Haydn and arranged by Grant-James in the late 19th Century, is without doubt one of the most well-known and famous Slow Marches to be written. ’The Eagle’, which itself is a combination of the 14th and 20th Hussars slow marches is also a very strong march, but not widely known outside 14th/20th King’s Hussars’ circles. The Garb of Old Gaul (sometimes given as Auld Gaul) is an 18th-century patriotic Scottish march and song about Highland soldiers during the Seven Years War. The music was written by General John Reid, who was a senior officer of the 42nd Regiment of Foot (The Black Watch) during the Seven Years War. The words have traditionally been attributed to Sir Harry Erskine (1710 -1765). Robert Burns described it as This excellent loyal Scottish song and states that it first appeared in print in Herd’s Collection of 1769. Alternative titles include The Highland Character and The Highland or 42nd Regiment’s March. The tune was originally a quick march but was later rearranged as a slow march. Other famous slow marches of the British Army include Golden Spurs & Scipio. Put away Scipio, Coburg & Garb of Old gaul, time for a newcomer on the block! This Hell is a song by Japanese-British singer-songwriter Rina Sawayama. It was released in May 2022 as the first single from her second album 'Hold the Girl' and contains references to numerous country and western motifs such as cowboys and horseriding; Sawayama has noted Dolly Parton and Kacey Musgraves as inspirations, as well as Shania Twain, whom Sawayama has described as The queen of country pop. This Hell was written by Sawayama while reflecting about attacks against LGBT people, often motivated by religious beliefs, stating: When the world tells us we don't deserve love and protection, we have no choice but to give love and protection to each other; I wanted to write a western pop song that celebrated COMMUNITY and LOVE in a time where the world seemed hellish. Concert Band - Level 3 - Digital Download SKU: A0.983162 Composed by Craig Wadley. Concert,Contemporary,Standards. Score and parts. 102 pages. Wadley Publications #3043809. Published by Wadley Publications (A0.983162). The Privateers is a swashbuckling depiction of an oceangoing pirate adventure, presented in the form of a march. The piece starts with a brief fanfare, followed immediately by a rousing melody in the style of an old sea-shanty. Images of sailing upon an endless sea of stars come to mind as a tranquil nocturne is presented, but the peace is shattered as cutlasses and sabers clash in a dogfight sure to end in Davy Jones’ locker! The music swells to a dramatic conclusion as our mighty galleon surges across a stormy sea. Instrumentation The Privateers comes with full sets of both concert/stage and marching/field parts, allowing for great flexibility in your performance venues. Contemporary marching bands and drum & bugle corps utilize specialized field percussion which is typically not used in a concert setting. With this piece, the use of outdoor percussion (quad toms and a tonal bass drum line) onstage is encouraged, although not required. A single bass drum line is included which may be used instead of (or in addition to) the tonal bass drum line, and the Quad Toms part may be omitted. A piano part is included, primarily for optional use indoors as a color instrument for the ensemble. However, smaller bands in particular may find it useful for filling out the accompaniment line if instrumentation is limited. Optionally, a very small ensemble of melodic instruments could be used, with the piano acting as a full-fledged accompaniment. Several optional parts are included, such as Eb and Bb Horn, for ensembles with limited instrumentation. Also, the two Low Winds parts should be distributed equally across trombone, baritone/euphonium, and tenor sax players. Double reed parts are not included. Double these instruments on appropriate parts to suit the needs of your ensemble. Teaching Points Meter – The alternation of 6/8 and 4/4 with a constant pulse (rather than a constant 8th note) provides an excellent opportunity to teach your students to shift the subdivision of the beat from triple to duple and back again. Chromaticism & Accidentals – There is a recurring passage which features the prominent use of secondary dominants, or circle of fifths chord motion. Students can learn a few less-than-common accidentals and enharmonics, while also getting a larger lesson in music theory.

This musical setting of the Kyrie was written for choir by Italian composer Antonio Lotti, who spent his entire career at the famous St. Mark's Basilica in Venice. The adaptation of choir literature for use by wind players provides an ideal tool for teaching basic musicianship such as intonation, balance, and blend as well as the advanced techniques of phrasing, nuance of line, and accuracy of ensemble articulation. Because the work consists of only 4 voices, players can more readily hear and address individual, section, and ensemble problems. The score and each part is notated with the specific voice assignment (S = soprano, A = alto, T = tenor, B = bass). This allows the conductor to rehearse like groups by simply asking for all players with the alto line and so forth. Knowing that another instrument is playing the exact same line can encourage them to listen across the band in order to match style/balance with the other players. You may view the entire score as well as additional part samples and detailed information for this work at my site www.bandroom.com - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -ARRANGER: Now retired, Brian Harris holds the Ph.D. in Music Education from the Florida State University and was a band director at the public school and college level for over 30 years. Published by Scaver (A0.1235675). Scaver Music, a renowned concert band arranger, has recently unveiled their latest project: a concert band version of the hit song Animals by Martin Garrix. Originally released as a digital download on iTunes on June 17, 2013, Animals quickly gained popularity within the electronic dance music (EDM) culture, propelling Martin Garrix to become the youngest producer to ever have a song reach number one on Beatport, a prominent electronic music store. The track's infectious beats and energetic melodies captivated listeners, leading it to achieve remarkable success on various music charts. It climbed into the top ten and secured the number one spot on numerous electronic music charts, as well as some mainstream ones. Notably, Animals topped the singles charts in the United Kingdom, French-speaking Switzerland, and Belgium. In the United States, it reached number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and claimed the number one position on the Dance chart. Before its official release, Animals generated significant buzz as it was played anonymously, causing speculation to grow about the artist behind the track. Dutch record label Spinnin' Records fueled the anticipation by sharing a teaser clip of the song online, titled Animals (Teaser). This led to increased speculation, with a Vine video featuring Agnes from the animated film Despicable Me further stoking curiosity. The track was mistakenly attributed to other artists such as Hardwell, GTA, Sidney Samson, and Bassjackers before Martin Garrix's true identity as the producer was revealed.Martin Garrix shared insights into the composition of Animals, explaining that the melody was based on a previous track he had composed two years prior but never released. The drop, characterized by its ruthlessly minimalist and rhythmic sound, is inspired by Busta Rhymes' What It Is. Additionally, the opening section of the song draws inspiration from a track called D.A.T.A. by Aura Qualic. While Animals is predominantly instrumental, it features a spoken verse by a friend of Martin Garrix with the lyrics We're the fucking animals, delivered in a low pitch and repeated twice throughout the song. Now, Scaver Music has taken up the exciting challenge of arranging Animals for a concert band, bringing a fresh interpretation of this electronic dance anthem to a new musical realm. With their expertise in creating captivating arrangements, Scaver Music aims to capture the essence of the original track while adding the rich harmonies, dynamic textures, and powerful brass and woodwind sections that define the concert band sound.Fans of Animals and concert band enthusiasts alike can look forward to experiencing this new rendition, which promises to be a thrilling and unforgettable musical journey. Scaver Music's concert band version of Animals will undoubtedly provide a unique and exhilarating performance, blending the infectious energy of electronic dance music with the grandeur and depth of a full concert band. Halifax was devastated on 6 December 1917 when two ships collided in the city's harbour, one of them a munitions ship loaded with explosives bound for the battlefields of the First World War. What followed was one of the largest human-made explosions prior to the detonation of the first atomic bombs in 1945.(...)In early December, one of the merchant ships in port was the large, Norwegian vessel Imo, en route from Halifax to New York to pick up relief supplies (...) Another was the French munitions ship Mont-Blanc - filled with tons of benzol, the high explosive picric acid, TNT and gun cotton - arriving in Halifax to join a convoy across the ocean.(...)The Imo was departing the harbour on the morning of 6 December 1917 (...) Imo had an experienced, local harbour pilot on board, William Hayes, who knew the navigation rules of the harbour. However, earlier encounters that morning with two inbound vessels moving towards Bedford Basin - both of which Imo had passed starboard-to-starboard - resulted in the unusual position that Imo now occupied, too far to the east (...) The Mont-Blanc had arrived outside Halifax the previous day and anchored overnight at the mouth of the harbour. On the morning of 6 December, the ship was cleared by harbour authorities to proceed toward Bedford Basin. Despite the Mont-Blanc's dangerous cargo, there was no special protocol for the passage of munitions ships in the harbour. Other ships such as the Imo were not ordered to hold their positions that morning until the Mont-Blanc had made safe passage through the port. Francis Mackey, Mont-Blanc's pilot, was guiding the ship inbound on the Dartmouth-side of the Narrows, when he encountered the Imo heading straight towards him in what he believed was Mont-Blanc's lane. Mackey would later maintain that the Imo was moving at an unsafe speed for such a large, unwieldly ship in the harbour, and also that incoming ships (in this case Mont-Blanc) had the right-of-way over outgoing vessels. Regardless of the accuracy of those claims, what is certain is that the Imo was sailing too far to the east, in what should have been Mont-Blanc's path. After a series of whistles and miscommunications between the officers and pilots on the two ships, and failed manoeuvres to avoid a collision, the Imo struck the starboard bow of the Mont-Blanc. After a few moments the two ships parted, leaving a gash in Mont-Blanc's hull and generating sparks that ignited volatile grains of dry picric acid, stored below its decks. (...) The Mont-Blanc exploded at 9:04:35 a.m., sending out a shock wave in all directions, followed by a tsunami that washed violently over the Halifax and Dartmouth shores. More than 2.5 square km of Richmond were totally levelled, either by the blast, the tsunami, or the structure fires caused when buildings collapsed inward on lanterns, stoves and furnaces.Homes, offices, churches, factories, vessels (including the Mont-Blanc), the railway station and freight yards - and hundreds of people in the immediate area - were obliterated. (...) Across Halifax, there were miraculous stories of survival. And equally, stories of tragedy. Many children were killed on their walk to school that morning, or blinded by flying glass. Those that survived the blast stumbled home, only to find their houses shattered, or their parents dead or wounded, among the wreckage. (...) Every year on 6 December, people gather above the Narrows to hear the ringing of the memorial's carillon bells, and to remember the victims of the disaster. www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca/en/article/halifax-explosion
