It is the piece that opens the first book of the Preludes, written between the end of 1909 and the beginning of 1910. The work is inspired by the “Dancers of Delphiâ€, a sculpture fragment from the temple of Apollo in Delphi, whose photo the musician had seen at the Louvre in Paris. The transcription was requested by the conductor of the UFRJ Wind Orchestra for the concert commemorating the 100th anniversary of the death of composer Claude Debussy. The soprano part goes from D a whole-step above middle C to B above the treble clef staff. Instrumentation required: 1 flute, 1 oboe, 1 Bb clarinet, 2 French horns, 1 tuba, 1st and 2nd violin parts, a viola part, and a cello part. (String players can be any number, but wind player numbers are specific.) Included at the end are the piano part and composer's notes explaining the creation process and musical things to pay attention to. (The total cost for the orchestral version is $46.).

This section is traditionally associated with USA high school and college graduation ceremonies. This version is for full symphony orchestra.  2 Piccolos, 2 Oboes, 2 Clarinets, 2 Bassoons,  4 horns, 2 Trumpets (or Cornets) 3 Trombones, Tuba, Organ, Harp, Percussion and Strings.  However 2nd Piccolo, 3rd and 4th Horns, Harp and Organ are all 'ad lib' and in general the arrangement is effective with the omission of some of the other wind and brass at the conductor's discretion.
