Unlike Carl Reinecke's crude and unseemly version, this concert ending is based on themes and motifs that occur in the overture itself and stays true to the character of Mozart's classical compositional style. As the header and title of this score implies, this is an orchestral overture to a cycle of songs entitled The Light Of Inner Mist which In turn belongs to much bigger structural units, present in the header, i.e. LEMONIA => SUMMER BLAST => A DREAM OF LONG AGO, containing other song cycles with their overtures. Many of these songs are still works in progress, but all thematic material of this particular overture is taken from some of its songs.

Following the traces of the original concert favorite, it may work better now as a concert overture or an engaging stand-alone showpiece for professional and advanced amateur orchestras.

It was previously in an innaccurate and hard to read form, which has now been tidied and corrected into a modern typeface.Print the parts double-sided, as presented, and the page turns will work.Rübezahl is seen to be the guardian of the Krkonoše Mountains. Physically, his appearance varies; he can take any form he wishes, from an old grandma to a giant crossing his mountains with one step. (Wikipedia).

Sullivan is so often overlooked as a composer of pretty tunes, whereas his skill was in producing music that fitted perfectly with the libretto of (mainly) W.S. Gilbert. When taken on its own, his music shows much of the artistry of Guiseppi Verdi; whose scores he edited, but with his own personal style!This overture is rarely played, but has a fabulous selection of themes and orchestral colour so typical of Sullivan - it deserves to be performed more often. The score has been edited to co-ordinate articulations and dynamics which have been missed in the hand-written parts.Print the parts double-sided, including title pages where present, and the page turns will work.Enjoy!

Arizona Centennial Overture was commissioned by the Arizona Commission on the Arts as part of the Centennial Legacy Project to help celebrate Arizona’s centennial. There are three versions of the compositions, chamber orchestra, full orchestra, and band. The overture pays tribute to the unique blend of the various cultures that had a part in shaping Arizona into what it is today. This six and a half minute composition is divided into three main sections. The first section begins with fanfares that announce the celebration. After thirty seconds, the introduction fades into music that pays tribute to the pioneers that migrated to Arizona. The music has a rustic quality reflecting the pioneering spirit of the ranchers, farmers, miners, and merchants who came to Arizona seeking a better way of life. This section is intended to be inclusive as it is impossible to represent each culture individually in a short musical composition. The second section pays tribute to the various Native American cultures that are a large part of Arizona’s history and its present way of life. Flutes and percussion instruments are used in the beginning of this section to represent the Native American respect for nature. This quiet section evolves into a ceremonial dance that increases in intensity. Towards the end of this section one hears fragments of the pioneer melody as these culture come together. The third section is influenced by Mariachi music to recognize the Hispanic influence in Arizona. The first part uses an original rollicking tune with four beats to the measure over syncopation. The second part contains a lyrical melody with three beats to the measure accompanied by instruments playing accents that create the Hispanic sounding grouping of six notes into three groups of two alternating with two groups of three. A brief ending using the fanfares of celebration interspersed with figures from the Native American and pioneer sections brings the work to a rousing close.The score prints on legal size paper and the parts on letter.

Written in 2007 for the Luton Symphony Orchestra in Bedfordshire, England, the Anasazi Overture is a fun and crowd-pleasing concert overture that combines beautiful Coplandesque string playing with exciting Hans Zimmer style brass. The piece is based on two Native American folk tunes; A Hopi lullaby and a Pueblo corn grinding song. The instrumentation of the piece is without percussion as the original intent of the work was to Make it cheap to play. It features double winds and brass with the exception of a 3rd horn part. The level of playing for the strings is quite advanced and the piece is suitable for all-county, all-state, youth orchestras, semiprofessional and professional groups.Some of the advanced techniques required involve heavy double-stopping and high shifting positions for the strings and Hans Zimmer style cuivre for the horns (NOTE: NOT STOPPED HORN) as well as upward rips.The included MP3 recording is the first live performance of the work by the amateur group it was composed for, but I am confident that this piece will prove to be fun and exciting to play for even professional orchestras. This set contains 1 of each part. Permission is given to create copies of the parts for each player in the orchestra as needed. The work has been quite popular with those who have played it. Despite the many challenges faced by a female composer in Victorian era Great Britain, Smith’s compositions during this period of her life received a high level of praise from the British press. Despite this early praise, Smith never received the long-term recognization her talents deserved. Due to a number of factors, her orchestral compositions were not even published until the early 2000s. This edition is based entirely on Smith’s original manuscript. It is highly edited including an update to modern instrumentation and the addition of missing/ inconsistent dynamics and articulations. As with all Zephyrwindmusic publications, parts come with an Unlimited Copy License, thus removing any potential copyright issues. Parts can be used in analog form – printed on paper – or uploaded as a digital part onto a reading device such as an iPad for performance.
