The song was written by Ellie Greenwich, Jeff Barry, and Phil Spector.Upon release, the song did not find commercial success but in later years, it has gone on to become a Christmas standard. In it the poet puts forward various ideas about life and how to live it. A villanelle is based on repeated lines (a refrain) that connects each stanza as the poem progresses.Theodore Roethke's poetry is known for its exploration of the self through reflection on family and nature; there is plenty of depth and technical skill. His mental illness also caused him to look into the darkness from time to time, recording his inner life in personal poems.Growing up, he spent lots of time in his father's garden and greenhouses and soil and plants and roots and things often turn up in his work. In fact the greenhouse, for Roethke, was a symbol 'for the whole of life, a womb, a heaven-on-earth.'The Waking doesn't contain a greenhouse but it does have symbolism and takes the reader into unexpected places. It is both introspective and positive in its outlook.

As many of you know, Rhapsody in Blue is one of George Gershwin's most famous and iconic pieces of music history, if not, of all time! But in case you guys don't know, there are actually 3 different versions of the same piece Gershwin wrote.These 3 versions include: The original Jazz Band 1924 version, 1927 version, and the most iconic well-known full symphony orchestra 1942 version that everyone plays nowadays. Not only that, but in the 1942 version, the extended part of the Shuffle Theme, as well as the extended Piano Cadenzas have been cut for duration time.So, in honor of Gershwin's Legacy, I've put together a special arrangement written for a full orchestra, and it even includes tons of heavy influences taken mostly from the 1924 version, even taking influences from different live performances that are inspired.These changes include the following:Adding back in the extended shuffle theme and Piano CadenzasAdded a Harp Part to make the arrangement a little Phil Spitalny Hour Of Charm-esque flavor to it.Brought back in the Bari Sax and Orchestral Piano parts, even though they sort of look different from the original score.Swapped a few solo/soli sections here and there while still keeping some of the 1924/42 elements (for instance the 2 Violin Soli, or Low Instruments Soli) in tact.You obviously get the idea.A huge thanks to one of my newest and closest friends who also have arranging experiences Darren Rodney for helping me put this incredible arrangement together!

After hearing a version of Laughter in the Rain by singer Lea Roberts on the radio several weeks before the planned release of his single, Sedaka phoned Elton John to have MCA Records rush the Sedaka version to release within five days. The opening chord of the chorus was based on that used by John in Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, which Sedaka has described as a drop-dead chord. He combined that with a pentatonic melody inspired by Aaron Copland. Cody claims to have written the lyrics in about five minutes after smoking marijuana and falling asleep under a tree for a couple of hours.

In contrast to the more sublime Ruhevoll (and the 4th movement Molto Adagio) Marches utilizes many aspects of the march in various settings, from large brass and woodwind circus venues to trios of soloists, while also encompassing the somber funeral procession. Marches opens the brass and low strings in a dogfight; the brass fire short staccato blasts as 'cellos and basses answer with long lyrical lines setting the pace until the cat and mouse game ends with the low strings driving their way to the trio. When the three soloists finish their introductory theme they are answered by the full orchestra taking the theme and surrounding it with all the boisterous bells and whistles of a circus march! But the reality is that marches are - at their core - war music, and the waste that war causes has to be addressed in the funeral march. These themes are all cycled through once again, with a coda that cleverly ties things up.

This is a collection of ten pieces based on poems of Wendell Berry and Mary Oliver. Some are transcriptions of songs I've written, others are my interpretations of the poems. All are colorful and unique with lots of solos for your principal chairs. This song is a folk ditty. One of the lyrics describes the plight of residents in Fengyang County, Anhui Province in the early Ming Dynasty, and insinuates that Zhu Yuanzhang failed to take care of the people in his hometown, making them unable to settle down and live in their hometown. The string part of this adapted version is derived from the arrangement by composer Bob Phillips, and the wind and percussion parts are configured according to the characteristics of traditional Chinese music, making it a complete symphonic work. Also, I was trying to add saxophone section into my orchestration to enhance and support the middle timbre of the orchestra, because the saxophone has a deeper sound to across the strings and woodwinds smoothly.This adapted version is suitable for students with beginning level in orchestra performance, allowing students to feel the charm of symphonic music with simple techniques, and experience traditional Chinese culture and history.
