Thou my best Thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my lightBe Thou My Vision is a traditional Christian hymn, which can be traced to Ireland but is now sung in English-speaking churches around the world and is often sung around St. Patrick’s Day.​The music is the Irish folk song, Slane referring to Slane Hill. Slane Hill is about ten miles from Tara in County Meath. It was on Slane Hill around 433 AD that St. Patrick defied a royal edict by lighting candles on Easter Eve. High King Logaire of Tara had decreed that no one could light a fire before Logaire began the pagan spring festival by lighting a fire on Tara Hill. Logaire was so impressed by Patrick’s devotion that, despite his defiance (or perhaps because of it), he let him continue his missionary work. ORCHESTRAL SCORES ARE AVAILABLE FOR RENTAL The Te Deum for mixed choir and symphony orchestra by Lorenzo Ondarra (1931- 2012) was composed in 1998 at the request of the Provincial Curia of the Capuchin Friars, to commemorate the First Centenary, in 2000, of the Restoration of the Navarre, Cantabria and Aragón Capuchin Province. The main theme is the Gregorian melody of the Te Deum, a thanksgiving hymn, which combines the melody of the Tonus Solemnis and the Tonus Simplex. The Gregorian melody alternates between the choir and the orchestra, and develops in a free style as a paraphrase, with frequent melodic movements through parallel fourths and fifths: a typical feature of Ondarra’s compositional language. Modal features permeate the entire work, succeeding one another with tonal sections and even bitonal elements. Ondarra’s orchestration reflects an outstanding work, in which the wind instruments, together with the ubtlety of the woods and strings, plays an important role. Through its deep religiosity, the work combines recollection and the invitation to prayer with moments of brilliance in the treatment of the voices, which are exquisitely interwoven with the orchestral timbres. Napoli Suite for piano was written in 1922-25. The aesthetic attribute most praised by the French is that utterly indefinable quality known as â??charmâ??. Among its leading proponents among 20th-century composers is Francis Poulenc, whose picture-postcard piano suite Napoli whimsically evokes the seaside pleasures, the serene beauty and urban bustle of Italian life as seen through the lens of an urbane French tourist in Naples. All of the above-mentioned colorful virtues of this music moved me to orchestrate this suite for a symphony orchestra, combining it with chamber and solo episodes, where, along with a full symphony orchestra, complete freedom is given to the soloists of the orchestra and its groups. For example, the 1st part â?? Barcarolle - starts with Violin, Flute, Oboe, and Clarinet solo. The 2 part - Nocturne - is almost chamber ensemble consisting of Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, Harp, Tambourine, Cello and D. Bass. The Tutti orchestra wedges in contrast only in in the last 6 bars. The 3rd part - Caprice Italien â?? string septet is soloing in 2 episodes without a conductor amidst powerful and colorful full orchestra sound. I hope to arouse interest of conductors and soloists of the orchestra to perform this brilliant music.

Joachim Leander's Praise to the LORD, the Almighty, as translated by Catherine Winkworth, has consistently been one of the most published hymns in the English language since the mid-20th Century. Its anonymously composed tune, LOBE DEN HERREN, almost exclusively paired with this text since the 17th Century, is also much loved. Even J.S. Bach found it suitable to feature in his 137th cantata. The title of this arrangement, Ponder Anew, as taken from the commonly used third stanza of the hymn, Ponder anew what the Almighty can do, invites one to consider afresh the attributes and works of Almighty God as one listens to this completely new setting of the tune. This arrangement for orchestra features three variations of the complete hymn tune utilizing metrical and harmonic changes to maintain focus on the tune and its text. These are bracketed via repetitions of the first five tune pitches in harmonic planing over a crescendoed pedal tone producing steadily increasing tension with unexpected resolutions of the beginning and concluding phrases. The music in not particularly difficult and should be readily playable by high school or higher level musicians. Yet, both musicians and audience will find the work interesting and enjoyable with music that reflects the majesty and mystery of its subject. When composer Jerry Goldsmith was asked to write the score for MacArthur, people were surprised that he accepted the project because they wondered what he would have left to say, musically, after Patton. Jerry‘s feeling was that MacArthur was a totally different person, and it would be a real challenge to write about another military figure but do it in a different manner. He said “it‘s much more flamboyant in a different sort of way, and it was an interesting task“. Patton enjoyed resounding critical praise and has since been elevated to the designation of a classic. The film won Academy Awards for nearly all of its major players, with composer Jerry Goldsmith being an unfortunate exception. Goldsmith had already written many scores for World War II topics in his short mainstream career, but none would prove as memorable in any part as the march from Patton, a concert hall staple for the composer throughout his career. Despite the dominance of this theme and the fact that only roughly thirty minutes of music was employed in such a long picture, the effect of his score on the film is far more complicated than many people may realize. While the famous march, with all its bravado from brass, flutes, and snare, easily represents the identity of the character and war, Goldsmith’s work for the film actually spends more time dwelling on the deeper meanings of life that the general himself explored.Created from the original manuscript, this release offers a rare opportunity to study film music in its authentic, original orchestration and arrangement.
