This traditional tune is well known as a farewell song, sung at the docks as the big ships were leaving.The song has two distinct parts: The Shanty and Halyard. This is a short arrangement for full orchestra. I also used this tune in my Australian Folksong Medley No. 2 for concert band/Brass Band and Orchestra. Published by Brett Thompson (A0.851554). If you are lucky enough to have miraculously stumbled across this wonderful hoot of a piece using the sheetmusicplus search, then you are in for a treat! Cootamundra is a town in country New South Wales, Australia, and has nothing to do with the character of this piece. It is quite near where I currently live and made a fun alliteration while choosing a title for this piece. When writing music, I often allow the character and form of the piece to evolve with development of the motifs being employed. When writing student pieces, however, I tend to map out the work in my imagination fairly thoroughly first. This helps to keep the end result within the technical and musical limitations of the students in mind. Such was the case here where I decided to build on a nursery song with some drone-like accompaniment, a little Scotland the Brave, and then superimpose it on a conga line motif.This work is designed for a student orchestra (Grade 3) and includes lots of doubling and cues to cover absent parts.

Halloween is a 1978 American independent slasher film directed and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with producer Debra Hill, and starring Jamie Lee Curtis (in her film debut) and Donald Pleasence, with P. The plot centers around a mental patient, Michael Myers, who was committed to a sanitarium for murdering his babysitting teenage sister on Halloween night when he was six years old. Fifteen years later, he escapes and returns to his hometown, where he stalks a female babysitter and her friends, while under pursuit by his psychiatrist. Filming took place in Southern California in May 1978; the work premiered in October, whereupon it grossed $70 million, becoming one of the most profitable independent films of all time. Primarily praised for Carpenter's direction and score, many critics credit the film as the first in a long line of slasher films inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960), and Bob Clark's Black Christmas (1974). It is considered one of the greatest and most influential horror films ever made. In 2006, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant. Halloween spawned a film franchise comprising thirteen films which helped construct an extensive backstory for its antagonist Michael Myers, sometimes narratively diverging entirely from previous installments. A direct sequel of the film was released in 1981. A remake was released in 2007, which was followed by a sequel in 2009. An eleventh installment, which serves as a direct sequel to the original film that retcons all previous sequels, was released in 2018; this was followed by two direct sequels: Halloween Kills (2021) and the upcoming Halloween Ends (2022). Additionally, a novelization, a video game and comic book series have been based on the film.

English Horn), 2 Bb Clarinets ( II d. Bass Clarinet), 2 Bassoons, 2 French Horns, 2 Trumpets in C, Timpani, Xylophone (both soft and hard mallets), Snare Drum, Bass Drum, Auxiliary Percussion (2 players - including Cymbals, Suspended Cymbal, Tambourine, Triangle, Large Gong, and Mark Tree), and Strings. The FINALE mp3 gives you the feel for the piece, but FINALE’S un-pitched percussion sound files are inadequate to convey the real feel of any of those instruments. For Orchestra, Solo Vocalist and Choir Shadowland is a song written by Lebo M., Hans Zimmer and Mark Mancina for the musical The Lion King (1997), a stage adaptation of Disney's 1994 animated film of the same name. Based on the song Lea Halalela (Holy Land), a track featured on Lebo's Lion King-inspired concept album Rhythm of the Pride Lands (1995), Lebo composed the track with Zimmer, while both Lebo and Mancina contributed new lyrics to its melody. Lebo based the song's lyrics on his own experiences having been exiled from South Africa during apartheid, therefore imbuing Shadowland with themes about refugeeism and survival. Originally performed by Trinidadian-American singer and actress Heather Headley as Nala, and South African actress Tsidii Le Loka as Rafiki, roles both performers originated on stage, Shadowland narrates Nala's decision to leave the Pride Lands in search of a more habitable environment upon realizing that her homeland has grown dry and barren in the midst of Scar's reign. Taking place shortly after Nala rejects Scar's romantic advances, director Julie Taymor used the song to develop Nala into a stronger character for the stage adaptation, and identified Shadowland as her favorite among the production's original songs, believing its message and themes to be universal. Musically, Shadowland is a soul power ballad. Sung in both English and African languages, its instrumentation combines African percussion with European orchestration to create a more exotic sound while accompanying pop vocals and African chants; some critics have observed political themes such as feminism, injustice and the ecosystem throughout the song's lyrics. Shadowland has been mostly positively received by music and theatre critics; both Headley and actresses who replaced her in subsequent productions of the musical have been praised for their vocals and performances.

The movements, Call of the Mockingbird, Trail of Tears, and Fanfare for the Volunteer reflect on broad themes relating to the history and culture of the state. The work was released in 1999 on a cd for Sony Classical performed with the London Philharmonic Orchestra titled by its final movement Fanfare for the Volunteer.Call of the Mockingbird; The evocations of nature and landscape. In the course of its many voicings (both literal and figurative), the theme evokes a broad range of images, from the bird of the title to the ruggedness of the Appalachian terrain.Trail of Tears; The tragedy of the forced migration of the Cherokee Indians in 1838-39. An episode in American history, the work incorporates aspects of Native American, Celtic and Central European traditions within the broader context of a symphonic composition.Fanfare for the Volunteer; The fierce and bittersweet pride of the southeastern United States. Perhaps, the clearest blending of O’Connor’s background as a traditional fiddler with his more recent work as a symphonic composer.
