Included in this file is also the full score for the choir with individual parts. There is no text to be sung, so in the sense of a vocalizo „oh and „ah can be used „ad lieb by the singers. For the bells there is an extra optional score that could be eventually used by a keyboard instrument. The percussion could be performed by 3 or 4 musicians. It consists of a set of cymbals „G, A and C, a splash or crash, an open triangle, a snare drum, One or 2 Gongs and a bass drum. For each voice in the ensemble score there is an individual part ready to print and an optional standard one. The parts are very easy to perform. The piece is can easily be adjusted to different situations. It is perfect for school ensembles and mixed groups of beginner students and advanced ones. A little story about this piece In my early teens I dreamed in my sleep that I met a very nice gentleman, in a beautiful garden. At the time I did not now that the man in my dream was my „genetic Grandpa himself, I had never seen a picture from him, only many years later after this dream. Now back to the Dream. Grandpa toke me from the garden to a House full of sculptures and art work. There was also a room with 3 great pianos, sat to perform on 3 different stages. Family life size portraits where hanging on a corridor. Another room was full of swords and ancient family weapons. In the end of the dream a dangerous Entity approached the house, Grandpa disappears and I had to leave the place in a hurry without being noticed. I climbed up the house and went hiding on the celling. I could than see a middle aged, middle-Lower class lady coming in the House, she was very stiff, all dressed in black like a widow. It was a very weary feeling, I woke up to never forget this dream. About 20 years later I was in that garden. It was really abandoned and I spend much of my time hanging there, I wrote a lot of music in this garden. I knew about The owner of this garden, he was living not so far away from me. Curious I decided to visit him. He leaved in the house that I dreamed of and he was actually my Father but I did not know that he was my Father and either did he knew about me being his son. He died shortly after we met. His name was Pedro Augusto Franco Dos Anjos Teixeira and my Grandpa was Artur Gaspar Dos Anjos Teixeira. Thanks to Claudia Eppelt for the all the Love and cover design. Published by Gordon Cherry (A0.1036106). Below is a description of Volume 2 of Orchestral Excerpts for Tuba with Piano accompaniment arranged by Japanese Tubist Takahiro Kim. This new edition includes the following music: Piano accompaniments to the orchestral excerpts from major works for Tuba. This edition does not include a separate Tuba (the tuba part is in the piano accompaniment part though), however, if the performer needs these parts, they are readily available in the Complete Collection of Low Brass Orchestra Music compiled by Gordon Cherry. Many tuba players (at any level) will play in an orchestra or practice the tuba part of a piece as part of their studies. You will also have the opportunity to listen to reference recordings and study those pieces. In this textbook, I have arranged the tuba part so that it can be played with piano accompaniment. Some pieces are difficult to understand from the orchestral soundtrack alone. I have transcribed the piano part as simply as possible. By doing so, you will be able to clearly understand the relationship between the phrases, accompaniment patterns, harmonies, rhythms, and the relationship between the tuba part and the orchestra. I have included many parts other than the ones to be played in the audition pieces. This is because I want you to practice with a strong image of the musicality and sound feeling used in those pieces. I think you will be able to fully understand the outline of the music. Bruckner: Symphony No. 4-9 - You may only have the opportunity to practice the sections for auditions, such as No. 4 (4th movement) and No. 7 (4th movement). However, by practicing other sections as well, you will be able to study the ideal style, sounds, and harmonies that are appropriate for Bruckner's symphonies. By referring to the piano part, you will be able to understand the harmony very quickly. Mendelssohn: A Midsummer Night’s Dream Overture - If you have a chance to practice with a pianist, try practicing at a slower tempo so that you can visualize the ideal tone and nuance of articulation for bass tuba while feeling the harmonic background of the piano playing. Of course, mp3 files will also help you. Mussorgsky: Pictures at an Exhibition - Each section is very unique, so it is best to practice with a clear purpose. In Bydlo, everything is arranged for concert use. So it will be possible to play it in a real concert or orchestral situation. If you play with the accompaniment in mind, your approach to the phrases will surely change. I recommend that you practice all sections of Pictures at an Exhibition with a pianist at a slow tempo. When you listen to recordings or practice by yourself, it may be difficult to pay attention to each harmony. Knowing a clear harmonic standard will help you take your sound and articulation in a more ideal direction.

Jeff arranged this with a more modern cinematic approach to orchestra. This means that although the arrangement may sound big and bombastic, it is not extremely difficult to play and does not require a huge group for a successful performance. A lot of the brass are in unison or octaves so you don’t have to have four french horns to play this piece. Though four horns would be NICE. The flexibility in this arrangement is that this modern film score approach means you can play this arrangement when you only have a couple trumpets and a horn BUT you can absolutely play this piece with four horns, tons of trumpets and a huge low brass section and it will be gigantic! Most of the giant action films you hear today record with 6-8 (French) horns and they are often playing in unison or octaves. That is part of the massive sound. So, this arrangement can absolutely grow with your group. Maestro Max Hobart called me in the spring of 2009 and told me to check out this young jazz phenom on the saxophone named Grace Kelly. I said OK, that’s cool. That summer we went to the Regatta Bar in Harvard Square to hear her play with her band, and I was duly impressed by her musicality, soulfulness and chops. Max asked if I would be interested in writing a concerto for her and the Wellesley Symphony. I said, Sure. It sounds like a great idea. One of the most cherished jazz records in my vast collection is the collaboration between Stan Getz and Eddie Sauter entitled Focus. Eddie, who used to be an arranger for the Benny Goodman Band in the forties, went on to create the Sauter Finegan Band in the early fifties. The band was one of the first to include the piccolo, oboe, bassoon, harp, celesta, French horn, tuba, xylophone, glockenspiel, chimes, timpani, and other unusual symphonic instruments in the standard big band format of trumpets, trombones, saxophones and rhythm section of piano, bass and drum set. On the album Focus Eddie Sauter composed seven tracks of music for string orchestra and rhythm section. Stan Getz did not have a written part - he just improvised over the written music. If you are not familiar with this recording, then you will do yourself a huge favor if you go find it and add it to your own CD collection. The music is phenomenal and Stan is on top of his game, soaring above the strings with endless melodic inventions, flights of imagination and whimsy! It is one of those desert island CDs one should not be without. When I emailed Grace about this project and mentioned Stan Getz’s Focus, she said, It’s one of my favorite albums. So, we got off on a positive note immediately. My work, Focus on Grace … Concerto for Jazz Saxophone and Orchestra, is very much inspired both by the Stan Getz album and by the performances I heard of Grace and her band. The first movement is based on a funk groove in D minor: Grace’s part is initially written-out but she improvises freely in the coda. The second movement is a boss nova: as in the Stan Getz album, Grace does not have a written part but improvises over a set of chord changes provided by the orchestra. The third and last movement is an Afro-Cuban groove in six-eight: Grace has a written melody at first but soon launches into improvisation on a 12-bar blues in F. She ends the concerto in a free cadenza to show off her virtuosity and saxophone chops. ENJOY!!!

To play it is to be taken inside a sound world greater than the instrument itself. In other words, it seems to demand orchestration. Whether the fanfare call of Puckâ??s Dance, the sotto voce flurries evoking The Wind Over The Plains, or the deepest and highest reaches of the musical spectrum explored in the under-water world of The Sunken Cathedral, Debussyâ??s music seems to drop hints at obvious orchestral manoeuvres. His great skill, of course, was condensing these musical ideas to the piano. But the fruit is there fo the taking, and indeed other orchestrations exist of the complete suite of piano preludes â?? Books I and II. So, why another?This particular suite cherry-picks some of my own favourite movements from the suite, and arranges them in a â??symphonicâ?? structure to present an opening, expository movement (The Wind Over The Plains), a romantic Adagio (The Girl With The Flaxen Hair), a sprightly â??scherzoâ?? (Puckâ??s Dance), concluding with an epic finale (The Sunken Cathedral). Flute Concerto (2006) was commissioned by flutist Judith von Hopf and theKiev Philharmonic and premiered by them under the direction of GuidoLamell. The work is in two movements: Chanson and Fantasy Variations.The first movement, Chanson, is an extended “song†that develops through avariety of textures. The opening song material is centered around G#. In turn,this G# is revealed to be a quasi-dominant of a D centered sonority. (A briefcoda returns to G#, in preparation for the D center of the second movement.)The second movement, Fantasy Variations, is cast as two presentations ofthe theme surrounding five free variations, plus a coda. The theme serves asthe basis of the musical material for each variation as well as the structuraltemplate for each. Also, each variation contains material referring backspecifically to the previous variation.The opening theme is declamatory and massive. The first variation is fastand limber. The second variation is introspective and stratified. The thirdvariation is fleeting. The fourth variation is distant and spare. The fifthvariation is fast and driving. The final theme begins whispered and slowlyregains its declamatory nature before a brief and intense coda ends the workin a blaze.This item is the score and the solo part only.
